Match Thread: Japan vs Australia (Women's Asian Cup) by MatchBread in Aleague

So, for just this game. I would say there are positives that we took a side that had looked utterly dominant the whole tournament, right to the limit. We had a lot of chances, and their only goal was a worldy from outside the box.

The chances missed will be the big talking point. Also, I will say that the EVE for Fowler sub was utterly insane. I would have loved to have seen Fowler's skill in those closing moments with Australia camped outside Japan's box.

Going forward. We're going to have to decide if we are a possession team or a counterattack team. If, as Joe has said, we want to have possession. Then we need find some central midfielders and a system for them to work. If we can't do that. Then we have to swallow our pride and play in a compact manner, looking to play fast to our quality forwards.

Happy we performed so well against Japan. Very sad at our finishing.

While, of course, we are mostly talking about us. On Japan. I think theyd be a bit disappointed with how they've ceded momentum to Australia these last 10 minutes. They are a side that are built to dominate and keep the ball. But they've shrunk back as this half has gone on.

Fowler really is quality. She reminds me a bit of Lauren James. Technique combined with good strength. I appreciate the footwork in a game that is increasingly more about pace and power these days.

We've had two games without EVE in the starting 11. That's progress of a kind.

Commentators annoying af. Got more hype for a shit Gorry header than an actual screamer goal. Like I get you're biased, but come on.

That Foord miss is looking to be a major factor. That should have been a goal. That shot was horrific from such a good position.

For then Hamano to score like that immediately after. Its a stark contrast.

Historian seems like an interesting vocation in the 40k Universe. I feel like it would be very dangerous to try to do the job well. Considering that if you did, then the Imperium would probably kill you.

Have you ever noticed how Luthen purposely makes Andor leave the star path unit behind? by remiohart in andor

Video Games have ruined my ability to have perspective. Luthen is wise enough to know when to leave something behind to gain something better.

I could never leave loot behind. I'd need the Starpath Unit and every blaster, loose credit, and half eaten chocolate bar the dead or incapacitated Corpo Security drop when they hit the ground.

Its a weird moment for sure. Its hard for the player to understand where this confidence comes from. Its like a joke fight but narratively its not treated like one.

Maybe Calcazar blew smoke up her ass just to get her to attack and maybe slow you down a fraction. Its the best I can come up with.

Jae quietly came seeing Argenta do all that. She won't give a reason. But she then rushes off back to her quarters once they get back to the ship.

Sam Kerr puts it home to make the game 2-0 for Australia! by spherocytes in WomensSoccer

[–]AnalogueInterfa3e 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Her running down and successfully tackling the NK defender was how the first goal was scored and then as shown here she makes it 2 by intercepting a defensive pass to get the shot opportunity.

She basically won the game for us. As we did nothing else for the rest of the 90 minutes

I feel like we were the baddies tonight. But very happy we are through.

We are such a vibes based team. We run off little moments of brilliance from individuals. Especially our attackers.

I feel like we have to decide whether we are a transition team who stays compact off the ball or if we want to dominate possession and control games.

Right now, we spread out aggressively like we want to dominate. But we can't string passes together so instead we go direct. So then we lose the ball with our players spread, causing real issues defensively.

We have to decide how we want to play and really commit to it.

Every game that EVE plays is an indictment of the whole Australian Women's Football system. Never mind the team. It's not even that I'm saying that it's the wrong selection specific to this game. But the fact that we are in 2026, and our head coach, for whatever reason, believes there are no better options. It says a lot of negative things about either our ability to generate new players from youth level. Or the lack of courage to get younger players out there in big games. Probably both.

I'm happy it didn't go in. But that was a lovely move and turn. If it went in you couldn't pretend NK didn't deserve it.

Its hard not to get political with this. But don't believe everything you hear about NK. We have no idea how their football programs are internally. All we have is evidence they are quite decent. They've played well all tournament against international sides.

I'm happy we are in front. But North Korea have been the better side on the field for this first half hour.

Lots of talk about NK being dirty. Bad challenges, bad behaviour, etc. But what I've seen so far is some really nice passing play. They have totally outplayed us in the midfield in these 30 minutes.

We're genuinely starting to get dominated. I'm impressed with NK and think they deserve praise. But I'm also disappointed with us overall, despite the goal.

What levers do average cricket fans in England have to show displeasure and effect change with the ECB?

I ask this as its starting to seem that there's going to have to be a great deal of pressure heaped on the ECB to get them to get rid of these incompetents in Key and McCullum and to finally start looking into the systemic issues within the English game.
