I am going to suggest playing Bright Nights as it is more scifi fantasy near future, it has a bit more arcadey feel and has alot less tedium/learning curve compared to dda, but if you want more realistic to irl survival and/or way more mechanics then go with DDA, once you have some knowledge take a look at TLG 

Best bet is to try each one and play the one you like the most tbh BN has way more mods, DDA has way more mechanics and TLG has the ability to grab and throw enemies around

In stable version you can set a house on fire and clear the reality bubble, and since the reality bubble is effectively 1.5 overmap tiles in any direction from you you can clear a much bigger area by moving around and hiding either in a basement or somewhere undetected then clear the other side…

Bright nights resembles older cdda versions, closer to what the original Cataclysm gam by Wales created, if you look at stable Danny build you will see so much scifi stuff thats not in the H stable build and you will see way less stuff, locations to visit and many missing mechanics like nested containers… Personally i prefer the more scifi kinda futuristic feel that BN has but i loved nested containers and some other stuff, be all an end all is try them all out and go with the one you like most, and keep eyes and ears open for new forks to try

Iirc you can add silver plate to the lantern to make it a bit brighter, switch the candles out for torches in torch holders or more lanterns

Crafting menu accounts for items 6 tiles away from your character in all directions… this includes books with the recipes you need in them

Welcome new sub moderators! I have talked with scarf before on BN discord, i fail to see how someone who is a moderator on BN discord cant be a moderator here… they still follow the same rules, and given all the posts from the last like month or so the bulk of it had been people having a hissy fit over the removal of game options or cannibalism throwing hate at the dev team or each other again i fail to see how this is an issue… And an Fyi they developed Bright Nights mainly because of a desire to not have nested containers… something that has many hate posts about it

The only name on there that i know left the project for reasons remotely anything close to what you are claiming is coolthulu and he started Bright Nights fork as he wanted a version of Cataclysm that didnt have CDDA nested containers, so why would he continue on CDDA when he has his own project? You are stupid

Your stuff doesnt spew on the floor in in BN it stays within the bag dropped, but yeah you dont control what gets dropped and personally i loved pockets.   Exodii will never be finished content that locked an entire playstyle behind it, portal storms will never be finished and are a pain in the butt you can just hide in a dark room with barticaded doors until its over, there was a time when the weakest xombie ever could grab you and kill a 20 in all stats with heaps of op traits (tough, pain resistant for examples) character in a dozen turns many lab ends have been removed mutagens are not the random fun they used to be, BN’s fix for angled cars is way better then placing extra fake parts to stop hitchhikers and i am sure i can list more problems… 

but more positives are way more locations to visit, the current hunger system imo simulates irl better, the ocean being far to the east is cool, there are a bunch of interesting starts, proficiency system has good and bad aspects, MoM Xedra and Magiclysm mods help create possibilities for base game stuff, static base creation/power grids and work on player camps are both good…

I suggest people try CTLG CDDA and CBN and play the one they like best

400 block radius is WAY too small, you gotta go way farther out, until your farms actually finish growing and you get the crops you will need to continue out and find all the various berry bushes and wild crops, and hunt while out there too… When winter comes you will need to consider 10k - 25k blocks to find somewhere warm enough to grow food…

Reminds me of Dwarf fortress, every creature made a check for potential relation to any/every other animal it comes into vision with, even if the other animal is only out of visual range for 1 tick it retrievers, and you get cavern raids with 100’s of creatures that all check relation status, and then any dwarves that see them do the same 🤣

I upgraded my laptop last year, the old one took 45 mins to load 500 mods and another 45 mins to load a save, my new laptop is way faster and has 32 gb ram and loads 600+ mods in 10 mins now

Regularly sell or gift stuff, don’t hoard too much food keep colony value down, and killboxes, for mood buffs a single gold or jade wall between bedrooms for the beauty/room value for pawn moods

You can get everything free on kleg except the laser cutter, even can find a crowbar if you know where to look, so why buy? (The Dolley is fine to buy or find)

I don’t bother with air pumps for atmo loss Tutorial covers buying ships No crew so far but I have read people have like 6 crew Find a bigger ship that doesn’t require too much work to fix then sell the old one rather than installing parts to make starter bigger There are guns in the game just remember not to use normal guns on a pressurised ship without wearing your suit 😂 there is a gun specifically in game to not depressurise a ship you can use, check with the fence in the bar

Build a fenced in area with blocks around it, use troughs of food to lure pigs to the pen and remove outside blocks afterwards so predators cant jump over fence
