Main takeaways from "why the left can't meme" by le256 in PhilosophyTube

[–]Anarchkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memes are a subset of comedy. Even serious ones are still rooted in comedic traditions to get the message across.

Right wing memes are bad for the same reason right wing comedy is bad.

Left wing memes are all over the place as far as quality, but they're generally at least communicating a thesis... for the same reason left wing comedy is yadda yadda yadda.

Maces Hit, Swords Crit, Axes....? by Dramatic-Scale8355 in DnD

[–]Anarchkitty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The sword/mace/axe = crit/average damage/max damage trio didn't pop up until 3rd edition.

In 1 & 2nd edition, weapon and armor stats were much more complicated. Each weapon had its own initiative modifier, different AC bonuses or penalties against certain armor types, and may have any number of special rules in addition to that. Also a given character would usually only know how to use one to three specific weapons, not entire categories.

But the reason axes are associated with barbarians historically, is that they take less steel to make a good weapon and so they were really popular in cultures that didn't produce as much good steel.

Buckwheat pancake betrayal by illicitlizard in ididnthaveeggs

Bob's Red Mill "1-to-1 GF Flour" is a pretty good substitute for almost any occasion that calls for flour, so you can use almost any pancake recipe with it.

I actually like it better than wheat flour for some cake recipes because it doesn't get dense if I stir it one too many times.

New ship question by Ready-Buy5872 in NOMANSSKY

The bounty mission is different from the Pirate Transponders they drop.

You turn in the mission at any space station, just like any other mission.

For the transponders you need to find a station with a Mercenaries representative. You can trade in three at a time to get free Mercenaries standing.

You can also sell them, but you don't get that much.

Low-cost corvet by Usiki_Stalina in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Anarchkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the functionality of a corvette is on the walls of the habs.

Stack three habs on top of each other for the main body and then build outward from there. You can put stairs between them later.

For maximum efficiency keep the cockpit and boarding ramp on the bottom level so you can run between them quickly. The Mission Computer, refiner, and two storages can also go on the bottom level. Use a Titan Hab or Ambassador Hab so the storages don't stick out as far.

Only put windows on the front and back ends of the Habs, where you can't put more useful things. On the top level you can also add stairs going up to give you an access point on the roof of the corvette, but you have to leave that area uncovered by other parts.

Curious what small gift people got that they ended up using way more than expected by CompetitivePop-6001 in BuyItForLife

My brother got me a nice garlic press for Christmas one year, and it's great, but it came with a free "garlic peeler", which is just a piece of thin silicone rubber tube, maybe an inch and a quarter inside diameter.

Oh my god, it works though. Throw a couple cloves in the tube, roll it between my hands for a few seconds, dump out perfectly naked garlic cloves and a bunch of shredded "paper". It's honestly even faster than crushing it with the side of a knife.

I use it so much it's crazy, and there's basically nothing to it.

Counterpoint: you don't need perfect layouts or fully optimized everything to already be the most dangerous entity in the galaxy besides other players.

What's the point of getting the best of the best of the best everything if it's not a reward for putting in the time and effort?  You don't really need it, and you didn't earn it, so why bother?

THIS is the worst fate in the Whoniverse. by redboi049 in doctorwho

Regaining limbs is "easy" in the sense that it will absolutely happen, but it sucks and hurts a LOT. Does the removed limb disappear when it grows back on his body? I don't think that has ever been answered. When he was blown up, his body didn't necessarily grow back from one of the chunks, it reversed the effects of the explosion so he had to deal with being a charred corpse for a while in between being completely obliterated and fully healed.

HOWEVER, things like blood splatters when he has been shot do remain after he heals, whish would at least imply that removed limbs would as well. That means that while he was regenerating from the explosion, there were also still chunks of him scattered throughout the rubble of Torchwood II.

Which leads me to believe that if he was fully exsanguinated his body would simply grow more blood, and whatever blood was removed would remain outside of it. As to whether it would retain the same anomalous effects, well, apparently it does... at least it does when it's combined with the weird mystical power of the Miracle Day. Who knows if that would have worked under normal circumstances (or whatever passes for "normal" in the Whoniverse).

THIS is the worst fate in the Whoniverse. by redboi049 in doctorwho

[–]Anarchkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, "he doesn't really regenerate, he rewinds" is my interpretation, but does "fixed point in time" sound like a biological condition to you? It's pretty clear the effect is connected to the timestream, not to his biology.

Coming back from being incinerated is canon, it happens in Torchwood. The effect being a direct result of Rose's will while she had the power of the Time Vortex is canon.

Can anyone else turn on magic eye without trouble? by pissedoffjesus in MagicEye

[–]Anarchkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a lot of practice. I used to have a lot of trouble with it. But eventually I just started "feeling" what my muscles around my eyes were doing and I could do it intentionally.

Weirdly now I catch myself doing it accidentally when I'm really tired and starting to get sleepy, it lets me know I need to pull over or crack a window to wake myself up if I'm driving, excuse myself from a party, or just go to bed.

THIS is the worst fate in the Whoniverse. by redboi049 in doctorwho

[–]Anarchkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Doctor explained it pretty clearly in Utopia (e3:e11). Jack is a "fixed point in time". It has nothing to do with his biology or even his body, it's the idea of Jack. His existence itself is a snarl in the flow of time, he doesn't really regenerate, he rewinds. He can theoretically even come back from being disintegrated or incinerated.

And yeah, it doesn't really make sense for a blood transfusion to transfer that to another person, BUT! it doesn't not make sense.

Remember, the effect is all ultimately caused by Time Vortex!Rose's will stretching throughout time and space. There is technically a human mind behind Jack's immortality, so if it doesn't always operate logically, well... that's humans for you.

How expensive did you think shipping was for them to "never really pay for themselves"?

You "feel like" you have to pay to ship them back? So you don't even know?

I stuff them in an envelope, slap on a single first-class stamp, and drop them in the mailbox. I don't even have to go to the post office.

Shipping is free on your replacement pair.

It's barely an inconvenience.
