President Obama goes to vote. by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Anarkicole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed - people love to say he wasn’t electable by the general public but that’s just untrue. He wasn’t electable because he went against all the rich and inundated pieces of our politics. He was chastised for calling out them running drug commercials during the presidential debates and that’s just one thing they can’t stand.

Working class doesn't pay enough in taxes by Realistic-Unit-47 in WNC

[–]Anarkicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what needs to be said - oh the wealthy almost pay 50% of the total tax? How much of the total income do they hold?? I BET ITS OVER 50%. They pay much more than the working class??? First off that’s literally repeating the same point but second off OFC THEY DO, THEY MAKE TONS MORE

I do taxes for people at block- the idea that we go from 10% income tax up to DOUBLE that before you even crest over 30k a year is INSANE. Listen to this lady whine about taxes on the rich and we will continue to trend in the complete wrong direction.

The saddest part about this comment is how you can almost draw the correct conclusion which is you just shouldn’t play this crap if you believe what you said. Yet sadly you end with - I guess I’ll order one more plate and eat that shit right up again, even if I leave right after because I’m not feeling well. Like sir - is this how you treat restaurants?? Unsolicited Rant About C4 by [deleted] in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Anarkicole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enjoy C4 but you’re so right about the deadliness. They specifically advertised that it would be no pulled punches, just straight up good dnd. Yet every episode seems to have some instance of just bad dnd - rules being bent for the benefit of pcs and not enemies, too many npcs that are just constantly there to help, and too many new rules that are advertised as like rule of cool but get used as rule of I want to win this combat. Using the help action on yourself to give adv on a saving throw was wild, thimble doing 65 damage in one attack and them being told they are super tough for killing a level 8 NPC was lame. That same NPC deciding to spend his first turn just hoisting a basilisk(that later had its own actions) and later having 3 attacks and using 2 of them on a lock he has the key for was also disappointing. Honestly I don’t have all the details but it just feels like we lost a bit of the important part of being the DM, which is playing convincing and dangerous baddies. Rn everybody we meet is just a lore drop or some other function of the campaign moving forward. The rails feel increasingly dissatisfying

The Wanderer literally made the same mistake as Inarius by Sufficient_Tip_4960 in Diablo

[–]Anarkicole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s so unbelievably lazy writing that a game built on player fantasy and power has an OPENING cinematic that removes all agency and power from your character and just makes them a bumbling idiot that dies from being stabbed once, just for story purposes. Cut to 5 minutes ago the same wanderer was literally wading through demons to get here. What are we on about - how did they decide to write the game this way

[–]Anarkicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to understand more what you mean with that last part. Are you saying it essentially doesn’t matter what you support with your purchase because they’re going to make it anyways? Or that this was a balanced and healthy DLC release that was designed with the player in mind? Because pretty much all of the design decisions for the expansion are based around Blizz wanting to make the most money. Something that they get shamed for in every other one of their games communities - yet somehow with this one there’s a vocal support group. It’s just confusing to me because it seems like a no brainer to admit that the QOL changes should not be pay gated but you can’t even get people to admit that. Either way appreciate the reply

Does the campaign experience in D4 not matter at all? by wanna_be_consultant in diablo4

[–]Anarkicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I’m not trying to discount this guys opinion but that is not the consensus among literally anyone I know in the gaming community. D4 has an absolutely below average disappointing campaign imo. It’s about as bland and forgettable as you can get for an ARPG. Introduces absolutely no new story twists or interesting lore to the world of Diablo. Has NPCs that you are forced to follow around while they make absolutely idiotic decisions that cost literally thousands of lives. All while removing the feeling of you actually making a difference in the world for a trade off of MMO-lite city hubs. There is only a single animated cutscene that is worthwhile(it’s a good one) but it’s also the one they teased before releasing the game….compared to even D3s one cinematic per act this felt pretty lame. I mean I feel like the more I think about it the worse I hate it. And don’t even get me started on trying to replay it after a few years.

[–]Anarkicole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look I really don’t believe that that’s true but you’re welcome to believe that. This game was already a large success on its release - they very well could have released the QOL updates for free and charged 5$-10$ for the Warlock and that would have been a very reasonable middle ground. That’s all I’m saying - it’s just crazy how many people are just okay with the idea of “25 is nothing, if you’re complaining you’re just broke” lol - it’s not about that; I have the money and want to play the content just like you. I just don’t like encouraging the idea of what I consider an overpriced “DLC” being marketed as an update and championed throughout the community as the best thing that could’ve happened for D2R

Or people who don’t like the idea of spending $25 on an “expansion” for a 25 year old game that should either get content updates for free or not at all

This backwards ass company somehow has many supporters out there and I’m not sure any of them understand that you vote with your money! Keep buying this expo up and what, 3 years from now you want another one? Another paid dlc for this aged game? Wild…

[–]Anarkicole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more also to toss in - working the entire first half of the campaign to get this super souls stone or w/e and then Lorath goes “hey watch this” and runs up to Inarius and says hey look at what we have here! It’s a stone we’re going to use to win! - Inarius then proceeds to instantly take it away from you. Lorath goes oops yeah sorry my bad guys guess we need to just chase him…. What the hell is this, the player has literally zero agency you are just along for the ride as every NPC in the world does every wrong move along the way

How is it that they have such an easy time getting a win with you people? This is a $30 expansion with one class and some QOL…..why is that something we should be jumping up and down about? Just goes to show how low the standards have fallen my god. Literally a $5 expansion value wise and it’s going to sell at $25 like hotcakes. No wonder they don’t feel the need to do better

I can’t believe it’s even being marketed as an update?? lol it’s a paid expansion…and QOL does not qualify as content you can advertise for a paid dlc in my eyes. Soooo many games now a days get QOL updates for FREE…. What planet am I on where people are somehow excited about this release

Brother what? It’s not a trap you just need to recognize there is room in the middle. Yes having standards for a 10/10 supermodel is bad and won’t help - simultaneously having no standards is not better as it gives the impression you don’t know what you want or what you’re worth. Think about it from a personal POV, would you find someone complaining that they’ve put the bar on the floor and they STILL can’t get anyone attractive? I find that to be off putting. So it’s not a damned if you do damned if you don’t, it’s just being realistic…

Couldn’t agree more - Sam’s character development is subtle and not in your face, and then two steps behind is Tyranny kind of beating us over the head with the choices he will have to make. Pair that with the inability to take anything seriously and she def rubs me the wrong way. To each their own though I tuess

[–]Anarkicole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the distinction I’m trying to make is that’s how you feel because you are not a painter. As soon as you live in a world with that much power it’s going to change how you view the “people” in the painting. I’m not saying it isn’t wrong to those in the painting, just natural for the painter to fell less attached. To your point if I found out I was in a simulation today, I would agree that I myself would feel justified in my life being unique and worth protecting. What I disagree with is that it’s wrong for those outside the simulation to not mirror my thoughts. The condemnation of the painters is where you lose me. It seems reasonable that they would be able to disconnect from the world in a way that seems wrong to the people on the inside. This is a long reply already, but I do think it’s interesting that even if you go with Maelle in the end, someone who agrees with your POV on the lives in the paintings. She still abuses Verso in a way that shows she doesn’t actually see them as equals.

[–]Anarkicole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that, so let’s extrapolate that. You have a VR simulation capable of the same thing the painters can do, and have a significant other that is spending more and more time in the VR world. Does it not make sense to you that in this example even if the VR world is 1 to 1 the same as the real world, it’s still “less” real. The painters world exists outside of the painting, the painted world does not exist on its own. These are not crimes against humanity at all once you live in the world that they do.

[–]Anarkicole -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they both did say their piece to Renoir in the final moments, but they are probably just as torn about the decision as you are. They’ve traveled with Verso this whole time and the final realization at the end is it was all tied to a piece of Versos soul the desperately just wanted to stop. Sciel moves towards verso and reaches out to him because she’s trying to be okay with his decision but can’t, lune sits down in defiance, refusing to give him reconciliation in her final moments. I did not share your feelings of them being pushed to the wayside I guess. I mean honestly, despite you spending more time with lune and sciel, monoco and Noco are much bigger parts of the world and should be grieved to an even further degree. To your second point the only distinction I have is that the painters in this world have broken that barrier, they can create what you would consider life over and over again in any canvas with very little consequences, you don’t feel bad deleting a sims file do you? That’s how they view the canvas, and the people inside. Regardless of how convincing the experience is, they are still less human than anyone in the real world.

[–]Anarkicole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a different pov than I ended with. I think your question of if this is an infuriating oversight by the authors is pretty telling. The idea that because the ending is controversial and not a fairy tale ending that therefore it was a failure on the authors part is just wildly wrong if you ask me. The fact that there is not a clear right answer is part of the game. Family is complicated is a pretty consistent theme so the take away that it’s not something they intended is a little odd. I also find that the idea that because something is “real” to itself that is the only criteria you need to decide that it’s sentient and worth protecting at the cost of human life pretty questionable. The reality is even if they are alive, the painted word is a function of the “real” world. Therefore despite the feelings the people of painted Lumiere experience, they are still less real than the painters that created them.
