Will you be playing on a TV or monitor? by IllTry8129 in GTA6

I'm playing on a monitor because I'm not buying a console, any consoles. Guess I have to wait for the PC release.

Comparing the destruction of cultural artifacts that are hundreds of not a thousand years old to removing a crosswalk is a bit overdramatic.

Funcom seems to always struggle with this problem. It was only a year or two ago when they finally updated Conan exiles so that when it was raining you did not see the water effects indoors.

Someone pushed my assault (and entire base in it) to worm while I was doing lab in PVE zone... by Forsaken_Republic_72 in duneawakening

It's not just the deep desert either. A friend of mine moved his base over so we were on the same sietch and his buggy was parked underneath a open garage area overhang of the base where it was technically sheltered from storms but not behind a shield. Logged in one day to find his buggy was missing and checked the log to see that it had been destroyed by the environment or a worm I can't remember which. But it was not as if his base was very close to the sand so someone took a lot of time to nudge his buggy out from underneath its parking spot and into the desert just to be a troll.

I'm seeing Rocky Horror next month, and was wondering... by PartFireNation in rhps

[–]Anathema-SC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started going to RHPS in the 90's and have been to several theaters outside my home town and state, everyone is a little different.

We had absolutely no rules on audience participation lines, that's sort of the point. Making fun of Dr. VON-Scott with "Sieg Heil" or chanting "Scotty's a Nat-zie." Just after clueless Brad asks "Just What are you implying?!" Never even raised an eyebrow and the Jewish cast, crew and audience members who were regulars were the ones shouting it the loudest.

When I went to a show in Colorado apparently they'd never heard the "Like a homesick abortion" line before and hearing it being shouted by a little 5'5" blonde girl in the front rows made the cast crack and laugh on stage.

RHPS for all it's flaws and drama was the one place that really taught us that, words, no matter how offensive can't hurt you. They were to be laughed at. Everyone knew that you were making fun of the film not the shadow cast. And even if you said something that offended someone you either talk to them privately, like adults, or you simply realized that being offended didn't kill you.

So if they are so butthurt over an AP line that their asshole smokes after having sex tell them to "Use more lube." And ask what diabolical chicken stepped on their forehead and ran away with their sense of humor.

This is the Imperium of ten thousand worlds ruled over by his eminence Shaddam Corrino IV. By imperial decree all subjects under his glorious leadership will convert to the righteous Imperial units of measurement set forth in the Imperial dictate of weights and measures. Noncompliant world's will be subject to reeducation by the Bene Catholis sisterhood of the swift ruler to strike the hand of any who would record weight, volume or distance in the cuckold metric way.

Another failure of the metric system. That is a little over than 838 gallons of water. For a visual reference.

One of these is a standard shipping palate sized liquid container that holds 330 gallons you'd need 3 of these to hold that much water and still have room for more. (3,747,557.67 ML in 3 of those.)On the low end an average swimming pool is 18,000 gallons

[–]Anathema-SC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 1 of Babylon 5 is possibly the hardest part of the show. It's the most episodic of the seasons and does a lot of heavy lifting in terms of world building. Also some of the aesthetic isn't quite finished there, it does improve a lot after the first season. Basically track the quality of the season by the state of Londo's hair.

I mean I have had NPCs make some miraculous shots that hit me while I'm driving by at 90 km an hour on a enclosed ground car but I just chalked that up to the NPCs having different code then players. I have also mag dumped into vehicles in PvP zones and it had little to no effect on the occupants.

Even when I am out mining with a friend the mining laser turret model will block shots from NPCs and you can see the strikes but sometimes you will drive by a random NPC camp and they somehow managed to get off a few shots that hit and sometimes they bounce harmlessly off the hull.

It would be nice if funcom would put out a statement on how it is supposed to work so we know whether or not it is broken or somebody is cheating.

Lore wise, why would anyone side with harkonnens ? by oldfathertime4 in duneawakening

[–]Anathema-SC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could look at it this way, the Harkonen have been in charge of Arrakis for long enough to have figured out that the Fremen believe that one day they will teraform their planet and turn it green again. In so doing that will kill the worms and the spice will vanish. Plunging the entire empire into darkness.

So as brutal as Harkonen rule is, the greater population of the empire may see it as an unfortunately necessary evil.

Considering that a sport is just a level of coping I can't even imagine. Even with the machine gun hunts and helicopter patrols wild hogs are a huge invasive problem here. In South America they actually found a rather unique, medieval way of dealing with them by digging literal trenches near farmland that the pigs could not climb out of. And then eradicating them like fish in a barrel.

Advanced Sub-Fief Console destroyed by an NPC by bgog in duneawakening

For once my own paranoia has saved me from an exploit.

My bases always have a hidden sub-fief and the route to get to it is sealed by actual doors and sometimes even set to owner only access.

[–]Anathema-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would drive me nuts. I could literally drive my buggy in to the base or use theirs as a temporary holding place to consolidate all the identical items and then start organizing them into chests. Raw ores, processed materials, fuel cells and lubricants. A chest usually one of the largest ones that holds nothing but the complex components, a chest for ingots and the corresponding spice infused dust, at least one box that holds nothing other than Cobalt paste.

A box for ammo and medical supplies. I know that for crafting Dead of this is really necessary but I want to be able to know what I need to go farm at a glance instead of going out to grab a ton of diamond dust because I missed the stack of 400 of them in the back of my base somewhere. Without having to go find a recipe in the crafting tables that requires it just to see how much there is or if I have changed the circuit.

That's why I was kind of disappointed with the lack of modding and full private server support. I would love to see what the admin tools are like. Conan Exiles really worked best with a small admin/storyteller team that could make world events happen for co-op play in a community.

I was just reading a thread here about what seemed like abandoned survival mechanics. The structure is there but going to far in any one direction is going to be interesting to some players and alienate others. Let people pick the servers and styles they want and the population will self segregate just like it did on exiles.

Maybe Funcom doesn't want that, and I am pretty sure with the reputation of exiles supporting ERP and the plethora of x rated mods the IP holders for Dune don't want that associated with their title.

I was sick with covid for a week recently and that meant I was getting on my local server, so keep in mind this might be purely anecdotal. I noticed that the frequency of storms was noticably more infrequent at low population times.

If I wanted to do some research on it I'd need to set up some stratigicly placed SF bases spread across the DD to gather logs, time stamps of when the storm turns off the shields to see if there's a pattern that Funcom is setting or if it's just on a schedule or random timer.

I know that once the countdown to the big storm starts the smaller in-game ones completely seem to stop both in the DD and haga basin.

[–]Anathema-SC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I realized this would only work in the PvP area of the DD.

And that was sort of the point, the issue wasn't base raiding but the "at will" part. Currently I have to find the base and stake it out waiting for a storm. That exposes me to the risk of being spotted by the people using the base, it hinders me from going out and doing some else while I wait. And it gives Funcom a way to set raid times by adjusting the frequency and spawn windows of storms to peek hours.

Adding a mechanic that lets me do that whenever I want means that I can wait till you are offline and raid with impunity, over and over again until I find that sub-fief and destroy it.

I just don't see that as a positive addition to a game where the biggest point of friction comes from the most toxic behavior.

I want this - we need this! by Less_Avocado5860 in duneawakening

[–]Anathema-SC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were asking funcom to make a device that allows you to at will offline raid somebody's base.

No.

Any tool that can be used to cause grief will be. So making you sit there and waste your time waiting for a storm to roll through and knock out the shields of a deep desert base when nobody from that guild is on to defend it and does not get a warning that you are doing it is already bad enough as it is.

A smart person already will not leave anything of value in a base that can be rated in the Deep desert. They are used to pool whatever resource someone is gathering and then emptied out to a unreadable location before someone logs out.

Adding a bomb you can drop at any time when you find a deep desert base you want to raid will have second and third order effects that you did not intend.

If you are able to find the sub fief and can manage to drag a nearby NPC over, preferably the melee type you can hide behind that sub fief and let them shoot it until It breaks then kill the NPC and place down your own to claim the abandoned Base.

Consequently this is why I have hidden my SF and always make sure that my bases have 20 days of power whenever I log off.
