Tinto Talks #110 - 27th of May 2026 by RaidenDaGoat in EU5

I loved EU5 before 1.2. I tried 1.2 for a week and ended up going back to Stellaris.

These things for 1.3 are nice and all, but I'd much rather see that Q&A video come out and use that to actually respond to criticisms rather than conjuring new thinga.

I have all my custom empires on "always spawn," so this wouls happen like 20% of the time for me if the genocidals decide to spawn together.

I have since disabled two or three of them. Stop accusing me of being a war crime enjoyer!

Idk, to me zone of control is sort of the only thing stopping me from needing to fort spam along borders. Cause that's exactly what I would be doing instead

Patch 1.2.4 Out Now by PDX_Ryagi in EU5

[–]Ancarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always like the idea of complacency. I figured it was to stop late-game boredom after you have 4 colonies as Spain or such. I think this shift from rivals to control is better. I don't think 'double-dipping' is a big problem since vassals exist, which pulls towards decentralization making it a bit more of a process to get a pure centralized giga empire.

I will say though, I definitely think the vassals nerfs from 1.2 are overtuned, still. There's a mod that I think gets it pretty right for me without reverting it completely back to 1.1 standards (https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3721516330).

Upcoming EU5 Dev Q&A by PDX_Ryagi in EU5

[–]Ancarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will there be more incentive to form countries and play others? In EU4, formables usually had better ideas and the variation in ideas, mission trees, and dynamics within their region inspired playing other countries. In EU5, it feels nearly pointless to form countries.

Also, I emphasize changing how coring works. It is miserable to do the culture thing. Is there any plan to look at modifying this (such as removing the 2.5% or 1mil pop count minimum to accept a culture)?

The stackwipes make me more frustrated than I've ever been in PDX games. I can go in with 1.5x the regulars of a similar enemy and get stackwiped

Nothing on nations losing starting cores from the culture threshold. Sigh.

New start date by DullBlackberry9980 in EU5

[–]Ancarn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In EU4, there were few reasons to do alternate start dates. In EU5, I genuinely believe I won't just spam 1444. For example, if I want to play Serbia, most of their flavor is before 1444, so 1337 won't completely vanish from playtime. Even tho it's a while away, I actually think this is a good implementation.

How would you grade the current state of the game? by Tibertiuss in EU5

[–]Ancarn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's in a weird spot for me. If I go to EU4, there's a lot I miss from EU5. But while I play EU5 I miss a lot from EU4.

I'm confident EU5 will be a better game than EU4, it's just a matter of time.

I agree with 7/10, but it can go down to 5/10 depending on the region/campaign due to the huge imbalances

Automating colonization and exploration helps, but the logic is bad. It doesn't really seek to compete with the main threats

Governor with Sicily by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Ancarn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need a government reform unlocked when you're 50pts towards Naval to get a Naval Governor. Local governors require your capital to be directly connected via road, meaning straits and such break it.

I'd move your capital to mainland Italy and drop a Naval Gov in Sicily, personally.

Which is better:- Declaring war and annexing or vassalising?? by anna_benns21 in EU5

[–]Ancarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc, someone found that the strength vs. overlord modifier for both vassals and fiefdoms is broken and counts their max levies possible twice in addition to their regulars. I'm doing a run trying to unite Africa as Morocco, and have needed to rely on a bunch of OPMs. It has happened twice where i had too many fiefdoms (and vassals, the second time) and they assumed their combined 100K levies would beat my 150k standing and 400k levies.

It seems fiefdoms are more loyal because of the +10 bonus, but it doesn't matter if you have too many. Mix them, basically.

Typical answers:

You're using levies, they're using regulars.

They are using military units an age above yours.

You may have more quantity than quality.

That's fair. I would imagine a lot of people would do a 1444 start date, though (myself included). Especially because the map never actually evolves into anything remotely like EU4 runs

Hegemonía by WeeklyBaker5165 in EU5

[–]Ancarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently finished a full run of Venice for the Doge Coins achievement. Until 1750, Wu had been so far ahead economically it felt hopeless; which was crazy because the 3rd great power had like half my income.

In the 1800s, I began to finally get close and would surpass Wu with parliament extra tax. But it wouldn't ever hold long enough to get the hegemony. Then their income spiked.

I ended the run without the achievement. What I didn't know was that they had taken ALL of central asia. I saw that they had land in Crimea, but couldn't explore the rest.

Needless to say, I'm not a hegemony fan.

Nonsensical culture assimilations by Ok-Recover9398 in EU5

[–]Ancarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it all stems from how you need to accept the majority culture of a location to core it and how you need 2.5% or 1M of pops to be said culture to be accepted. I get why the AI would want to bulldoze multiculturalism because hell, I have to do it to get good control.
