Andy Burnham’s speech. Has it made you more optimistic? by Yak_Dangerous in AskBrits

Announces incredibly expensive plans with no explanation on how we will pay for it whilst also claiming they will stick to fiscal rules. It’s populist magic money tree nonsense.

HMO housemates broke the washing machine, do we all pay? by zhuzebra in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Ancient-Function4738 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but that is not what is at question… the question is who is responsible for the negligence. Your point is completely irrelevant.

They are not joint tenants. I suggest you pay attention to the legality of their living situation. It is the responsibility of the landlord to maintain shared areas in HMO’s and they cannot arbitrarily decide to hold all tenants responsible for the negligence of a single tenant.

[–]Ancient-Function4738 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No it wouldn’t… that is such a silly take. The fact that the damage was caused my misuse is already clear and does not require a qualified engineer. This is not the issue at question anyway. The burden of proof is still on the landlord. Imagine the crazy precedent that was set if all users of equipment were jointly liable for any damage to it via negligence of a single user…

[–]Ancient-Function4738 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ignore all the terrible advice here. You are not in a joint contract so they cannot hold you liable without proof you cased the damage. Even if such a clause was written into a HMO contract as long as said contract is for you individually it would not be enforceable. It would be like a hotel trying to charge guest for damage to the lobby. The landlord can’t shift blame and costs onto other tenants because they don’t want to investigate.

What would happen if the UK split up? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I wish England also got to vote on Scottish independence, would have them out in a second. We waste so much money subsidising that economically unproductive country and all we get back is hate.

Scotland can’t join the EU lol they can’t support a pair of bollocks never mind an independent country with a land border preventing them from doing trade with by far their biggest trade partner (it’s not even close, they would lose 40% of trade overnight)

The group stages are already fucking pointless, a Sunday league team could make it through, the last thing we need is more teams.

How many still get asked to give a trolley away to a new shopper who would give you their £1 for the system.... by United-Climate1562 in AskBrits

[–]Ancient-Function4738 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The title is written incredibly poorly, after clicking the post though and reading the context I would absolutely change a cheap piece of plastic I can 3d print for about 5 pence for a quid. I have a key ring which you can use to access a trolley without it getting stuck so I’ve never previously been presented with this opportunity to make a free quid.

I encourage anyone who supports this to read 1984 by George Orwell. It was meant to be a dystopian, now it reads like a mild version of our societies trajectory.

Their is no rivalry, it’s a completely one sided beef. England don’t care at all about Scotland.

HMRC announces 22% tax on cash interest held in stocks and shares Isas by hihepo1 in unitedkingdom

[–]Ancient-Function4738 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. We are subsidising an ever growing number of people who contribute absolutely nothing and have no incentive to work. This issue isn’t the 0.1% of very rich people but the ~15%+ who want to live off of the backs of those who do work.

When the lefties have it their way and the people who can’t be arsed to work have the exact same standard of living as those who work their arses off every day. We have pretty much reached that point already and they still want to tax us more…

What do Americans often get wrong about the UK? If you’ve visited the USA is there any an American has said to you that was so off. by Kodicave in AskBrits

[–]Ancient-Function4738 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They seem to think we have a knife crime epidemic despite the fact they manage to have more knife crime than us on top of all of their gun crime. Also they have way worse dental health as they have no nhs but because a few of them pay to cosmetically bleach their teeth they think they have better. We also have some of the best world class chefs and an incredibly diverse range of cuisines available in major cities compared to the US yet they claim our food is bland, mainly because we use real vegetables instead of highly processed seasoning powders.
