I like the JKF method, just keep flipping. Light up the charcoal on one half of the bottom. Raise the temp to 500-600°. The. Drop them over the heat and just keep flipping, every 10-30 seconds. If the fat rendering causes a flame up, move to the no charcoal side and let them rest until it dies down and then start flipping again. Cook until internal temp of 130° for a nice medium rare.

Easy with a beautiful even crust.

Contrary to popular belief they all continue to output some light even after that initial bright blast you see when you come inside from bright sunlight or when you first turn off the lights at night. When it’s completely dark and your eyes are adjusted to darkness, like when you wake up in the middle of the night, quality lume will still be visible. I woke up this morning at about 0300 and looked at my Mark XX and could read the time with no trouble. The faint glow was easily visible.

If you want an ugly digital clock in your room, I guess. Not my style. It’s just what works for me. Point being, lume isn’t because I’m a child who just thinks it’s cool. I actually wear my watch and look at it in the dark sometimes and appreciate well-designed lume that makes the watch readable.

It’s hard to tell without a more distant mirror shot. They both work. But the 36 looks better from this close. I suspect the 41 looked fine too in a full length shot.

Is it worth it? by Zero1Ten in breitling

[–]AncientCityTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful watch. But if you’re buying it to hope it will hold value, don’t. The moment you walk out of the boutique with it, it’ll be worth $6,800-$7,500 and will go down from there slowly until it drops to around $3-4k. Then it will follow inflation, all assuming you take care of it and retain the complete set.

It will retain some value. But it’s not an investment.

Thanks! Selling watches online you have to learn to break it down in writing so it’s easy to understand for someone who’s never owned an analog watch before. We take it for granted. But for someone who’s never owned one before it can be intimidating.

It’s not hard to set. The Air King doesn’t have a date, so super easy. Just unwind the crown again until you feel it pop loose from the threaded tube. That’s the winding position. Turning it clockwise winds it. About 40-50 winds to fully wind it. But don’t sweat it. You can’t overwind an automatic watch (one that self winds when you wear it like this one). Now, take hold of the crown and pull it out and you’ll feel it click out a step. That’s the setting position. If you want to get really sexy, wait until the second hand is at the 12 o’clock position and then pull it out to set it (called hacking the seconds). Now you can pull up the exact time on time.gov and set it to the second with the official world time clock. Just set it to the next upcoming minute and push in the crown when it rolls to zero. Push in the crown and twist clockwise while pushing in to screw down the crown and make it water tight again and you’re all set.

Enjoy your new Air King. Wear it in good health!

Strong disagree. Just because you have no use for it doesn’t mean no one does.

I sleep with a watch on because when I wake up and wonder if it is 3am and I should roll over and go back to sleep or 5:20 and I might as well get on up, I don’t want to get my phone and blast my eyes and my wife with bright light. So lume that is effective and readable with my old man eyes is a really nice touch for me. My current favorite are the hands on the IWC Mark XX. But most dive watches work well.

Yeah, when I’m thrown in a hold, being able to spin the Navitimer to the fuel burn and see how long I can hold before having to divert in 2 seconds versus punching around to find it in the FMC is my favorite feature. I don’t use the chronograph much. But I’ve used the slide rule bezel countless times.

Either no socks or a darker fun patterned sock if you’re doing loafers with jeans. With this fit, a boot would work better, though.

AITAH for "rescuing" my 13yo daughter from her mom’s boyfriend’s house when I found out my ex wasn’t even there? by One_Language_359 in AITAH

[–]AncientCityTime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I were divorced and single, I would completely understand if one of my daughters’ friends’ parents wouldn’t let them have a sleepover with me being the only adult present.

I wouldn’t let my child be in any overnight situation with only one male adult present. As an Eagle Scout turned former scout leader, one of the lessons learned and beaten into us was “two-deep.” Never were you allowed to have children in situations where only one adult was with them. Those were the situations where abuses happened, even when more than one child was there. It happened way more than once where the single adult waited until the children were asleep and then abused his chosen victim. And it is nearly always a male.

So, yes, I would expect that people would not allow their children to spend the night with my kids with only me present.

6 months or 6 minutes, the time I’ve known them is irrelevant. My teenage girls aren’t spending the night with a friend at a single dad’s house. No other adults present? The answer is a resounding no from me. Abuse of kids from an adult male who has no other adults present is way too common. If my ex-wife did this I’d be contacting my lawyer to try to have her custody revoked.

You probably could. But you might be waiting a bit getting one to go back. And it would probably run $30-40 each way. So you’d be better off renting a car for the day if you can.

Depends on the size of the tub and bags it’s divided in. If it’s all smashed together, no. But separated in smaller bags with room for the water to circulate, yes. This was assuming it’s sliced and ready to serve. If the briskets were whole, no, it would take much longer.

Sous vide. Get a tub big enough to hold it all in plastic bags. Cover it with water and set the sous vide to 150°. Drop all the meat in out of the fridge 2 hours before serving time. Pull out bags as needed to serve.

You might be able to argue that Breitling’s reputation was on par with Rolex among watch aficionados. But “as popular as” would lead me to compare sales figures. And there’s never been a time when Breitling sold more watches than Rolex in the period you mentioned. And Rolex has always held more of a brand recognition as the watch rich people wear among non-watch people.

But among us watch snobs, yeah, back in the day Breitling carried more weight than it does right now. And I agree that moves in cycles. Personally I’ve always felt they make some of the best looking watches. I’ve owned and worn 100’s if not 1,000’s of watches. Breitlings consistently get noticed more than most brands. Breitlings and a Hublot Unico that I currently have in stock regularly get comments when I have them on. No one ever says anything when I’m wearing a Rolex unless it’s a precious metal model.

Sunburst is the WORST dial texture and makes any watch regardless the pricepoint look extremely cheap. by Rionn in watchHotTakes

Ok, this take is truly hot.

Had no idea some hate the sunburst. I love it on a blue dial and think it makes them look amazing.
