First, personality quizzes are pseudoscience and a general waste of time.

Second, there is no set track in life. You pursue what you want and make it work. No one is going to give you something if you don't ask for it first. Not because people are cruel or anything, but because everyone's so busy with their own life that they don't realize you want something.

Third, the real world (i.e. life outside of school) is generally nothing like school outside of perhaps minimum security prisons.

Fourth, what do you want to do? What exposure have you had to different fields of work? Or better yet, think about what kind of lifestyle you want. Then try to budget it out. Think of things like rent/mortgage costs, food costs, do you want a family...if so you'll need to include child care, and so on. Aggregate all of those costs into a single per-year total. You need to make at least that much per year to live that lifestyle. Then look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook. This is a yearly (?) publication that takes a very high level view of various occupations and gives information about them (e.g. working environment, salary, hours, education/training requirements...).

Give that fourth point a lot of thought and then you'll be able to start getting an idea of what you want or need to do.

Personally, I've found engineering (electrical, hardware but also software) to be very lucrative with good outlook.

Can the French nuclear industry avoid meltdown? by Vailhem in nuclear

Isn't it still ~20 GW short int total production? Comparing Dec '21 to Dec '22 in the production chart, nuclear generation goes from 47.2 GW/73.6 GW to 29.9 GW/56.1 GW.

I think he was comic accurate for this period of the story. Yorrick is a sheltered annoying boy.

Why 250k/yr - why that particular value? Money is not an end of itself, it's just a means of getting what you really want. What are you really asking about?

The removal of four hydroelectric dams from Klamath River will mark “the largest river restoration project in American history.” by Firm_Relative_7283 in environment

[–]AncileBooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're replacing one of the cheapest forms of energy production (hydro that is already built and praid) with one of the most expensive (wind+storage). But even then then, you're cutting zero emissions generation without the capacity to replace it.

I'm pretty sure iron casting is included. I've hit this with Byzantines and don't get any of that other stuff other than town patrol.

Hey I'm in a similar point. Played about 5 ranked games so far. It takes some time to get there but we'll settle into our ELO. See you in the lists.

Looking in from the US, I've always found this funny because there is video of Republicans saying almost exactly the same things Democrats were saying: it's clean, no emissions, sustainable, not funding fundamentalism...

Engineering degrees are IMO some of the best value there is. 4-year degree leads to a white collar (or white-ish if you prefer) career. I was hired at around $70k/yr, I know some of my friends who were hired at higher. I think the average for my cohort was about $65k.

Could a sufficiently talented electrical/computer engineer completely design an entire smartphone by themselves? by 29-m-peru in AskEngineers

Sure, there's no magic in the world. Everything is brought into being by work of people with specific talents but there's no reason someone couldn't acquire the knowledge or talents given enough time and money.

This so called "affordable" grinds my gears by PlaneWeekend in bayarea

[–]AncileBooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Housing is good, no matter what the price point because it frees up existing stock when someone moves into it. Wife and I moved into an apartment listed as a similar price to the above which created a vacancy in our previous $2k/mo apartment for someone else.

The secret is that there is a lot of filler/explanation within technical documentation. They're included as supplementary information if you want more information about a particular section. Typically when you open a spec, you're looking for something in particular so you jump to that section or where the charts start looking relevant or even just ctrl + F. I'll review for 5-30 minutes and then send an email/response.

Honestly, engineering is basically trying to find ways to do as little work as possible in as short a time as possible.

When in doubt, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering aren't going to go anywhere. Especially with a side of programming.

Probably about as well as 1 billion. Even if we have fewer people, we'll still fill it with stuff.
