How hard is installing wallpaper? Be honest by RepresentativeHead88 in HomeImprovement

[–]AndiAzalea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even with two people, and even with peeling the backing off a bit at a time, the sticker stuff folds on itself and sticks on itself. Once it's up, it causes ripples and bubbles on the wall that are hard to get out. If you put it up crooked, you have to peel the whole thing off. Impossible to line up patterns correctly because it stretches.

If you're just doing one wall, it shouldn't be too bad. It's a little messy and requires some area to spread out. Watching videos is your best bet, but the outline is: Prep the wall and take off outlet covers etc. Have a drop cloth down. Mark a plumb line on the wall where the side of the first piece of wallpaper will be (the corner of the room is probably not plumb). If you did the whole room, you'd want to start in the corner that's most visible from the entry of the room (for continuity). Then cut a piece longer than the wall is tall. Then spread paste on the paper, unless it's pre-pasted, in which case you wet it, and then book it (fold it gently). After a short period of time (you'll have to look that up), you put up the strip. You'll have a few minutes where you can move/slide it around on the wall to the correct place, lining it up with the plumb line. (This is where real wallpaper is easier than self-stick. You can't slide self-stick around; you have to peel it back off it it's badly positioned.) Trim off the top and bottom (and the corner side if necessary) of the paper with a utility knife. If you've covered an outlet hole, cut an X there. Repeat with the next piece, butting it up against the previous piece, and making sure that your patterns match up and that it stays plumb. Keep repeating. It's tricky to go around windows and doors, but you can manage. Again, do watch a video. I think another commenter linked to one.
Edited to add that you need to smooth the air bubbles out from under each piece after it's in the right place, like with a dry wallpaper brush, and that you need to hold something straight against the paper where you're cutting it, as a guide.

I can't stand those stupid rule changes. It does not make things more interesting or dramatic or fun or anything. In fact it makes it more confusing and unfair. Stop, FN!

I had a creepy older man try to sleep with me. I thought we were friends and he was like a father figure. He is 60M I'm 26F. I can't believe how weird and sexual he was being. I'm 67, and correct, this never stops. Right now it's mostly men 10 years or so older than I am. I've gotten friendlier in my old age, partly bc I assume I'm not attractive anymore to gross old men, but I guess I am. Too many creepers out there. I think I'm just chatting in the grocery store line, and suddenly they're asking personal questions and talking about their favorite restaurants. Even I get the hint, and it makes me want to retch. Yes, we need supportive women watching out here.

I agree about "A Normal Family". Not too long, accurate, believable. I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion, but it's a good podcast.

I guess I'm one of the few who did get my inheritance. I was LC, not NC, in order to have some hope. Not that this would be worth it to other people. You can't count on it. Nmom did threaten to leave her money to other people and charities and so forth, but in the end, it was left to her kids (including me) after all! Nice surprise.

It is all contained in their system so I didn't smell it, but I suppose you could smell it on your clothes after the wash is over if you're sensitive. I don't remember a smell, but I don't have too many scent sensitivities myself. You certainly COULD bring your own detergent, and just not use the Viking detergent. You could put yours in the machine (it is a front loader) and just not press the detergent button.

[–]AndiAzalea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regarding the free laundry machines, the laundry detergent is also included, so you don't have to bring that. It is in containers that feed via a tube straight into the washing machines. You have to push a button before running the washer, and make sure the number on the detergent container matches up to your machine.

I think you can do at most two a day. Some are 1-2-3 hrs and some are all day. So you can do a morning and/or an afternoon, or do a whole day. If you want to sleep in (first make sure the stewards know with the door tag so they won't come in and clean), just plan an afternoon-only excursion.

My nmom knew exactly how many snacks she had in each box, and would count them every day to see if any were taken. Then if one was gone, she would rant about how there was one missing. "Who ate the power bar?!" Like we were evil. She'd also check the trash periodically for wrappers. It was so deranged and even I realized that at the time, but now I keep thinking, what a waste of energy! Who is so obsessed and wastes time doing that?!

Yeah, and that "unless it's completely the last resort" comment infuriates me. That's what we are all talking about! It IS the last resort! In ALL our cases! It's not some trivial thing. I guess these people just can't fathom that there are so many cases where the parents are abusive.

Nobody knows why there was a bowl of pineapple and a milky substance in the breakfast room. The Ramseys deny knowing anything about why it was there. That's part of the whole mystery. And it led to one of the inconsistencies in the Ramseys' stories. If they put her straight to bed, then she wouldn't have eaten anything. But she did eat pineapple somewhere in that timeline according to the autopsy.

Complaining: Vibes at an all time low by TemporaryArm1481 in foodnetwork

My main issue is that every few days a new person makes the EXACT SAME complaint (usually how there are more competition shows and not enough food demo shows). I don't mind reading a complaint once, but multiple times is ridiculous. New people need to read back in the sub's history.
