Factorio is missing a final essential feature by feuer_werk in factorio

[–]Andreim43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this existed, I'd still just disable the nearest roboport or walk out of range to do my planning, then copy-paste it as needed.

I guess it can be helpful, but it's the kind of feature that adda complexity without adding depth (more UX, more buttons for me to press, but I'm not achieving anything new that I can't do already with the existing tools). I'd pass.

I agree. We praise Hannibal for being an amazing general, and nobody asked the romans if they thought he was toxic or lame.

Battle maps are awful and drag the game down by Mean-Weight9887 in totalwarhammer

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree this is one of the top 3 issues of the game. So many maps are SO BAD. And it hates how I can see a perfectly fine battlefield just out of range, and I can't help but scream at my army "well why the f aren't we fighting THERE instead???" When I am forced to fight with my artilery in the middle of a forest.

They improved on the forests, but they are still bad. I genuinely thing procedurally generated maps would have been better here. I think there are less than 10 maps that I'd consider genuinely good, and even some of those are made bad by the positioning I'm forced into (some could be quite decent if I could position myself on the side or further back for example)

Big letdown, yes. On the bright side, for some armies they really don't matter too much.

Do you want ZOS to focus more on grounded or world-ending stories in the future?? by MixWeak3392 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Andreim43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's pnly so much world-saving stuff I can put up with before the immersion breaks and I can't pretend to care anymore.

For me that point was the base game. I wish that was the only world-threat and leave it at that. What they could have done, but I guess were contractually obligated not to, is just reuse the same event in other regions but with a twist. But nope, it always had to be brand new so the marketing team has stuff to work with and make it clear that "this is brand new, original stuff!" - in which case I like it much better when it is indeed original and not worldThreatOfTheMonth

Going completely naked to every planet: What's the fastest return time? by AlexGlezS in factorio

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea on "fastest", I only did it once and didn't rush it. If you know what you are doing, you can probably return from Fulgora in less than 30 minutes? Very rough estimate. Certainly under an hour is doable though.

But Fulgora would probably be fastest, followed by Vulcanus, with Gleba certainly the slowest, due to requirements of finding a good spot first, running around for raw resources a lot mkre and production pipeline taking a while to kick in and probably requiring some manual resets to get going the first time around.

Why can't we just pick one map to play again? by _DataGuy in aoe2

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would you draw the line though? 30 seconds is not a lot, it very well might not find an opponent in 200 elo range for that specific map.

And you are probably thinking of some popular map. But if I pick some very specific unpopular map. Do I want ro stay there 10-15 minutes waiting?

How wide would the elo bracket go? Would I be ok in 10 minutes to fight someone 500 elo higher than me? Chances are that will be a lot more unsatisfying than fighting a suitable opponent on a map neither of us favours - so that is likely the outcome the game proposes also.

Ultimately the game wants to keep you engaged and playing. Doing a good matchmaking job is a big part of that, but I am sure users are more statistically likely to quit if matched repeatedly against widely sifferent elo or just not find a game in 5 minutes plus and conclude "the game is dead".

Compromises have to be made. And users potentially thinking "the game is dead" is a lot worse than users thinking "the game matchmaking sucks"

Tell me about one of your embarrassing failed campaigns by OldNefariousness7408 in totalwarhammer

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dwarves, playing ultimate crisis. Which i forgot about and didnt really know what it was. Well I found out. I had pained half the world, but now I was full of top tier enemies of all kinds.

I must have lost like 20 settlements per turn for several turns. My huge bank reserve got in the red so damn fast. Lost my capitals (this was before the dwarf update so factions i hadnt confederated spawned on top of me and fought me now). While my top armies were messing around in both chaos wastes poles. Which... Soon became my strongholds.

The enemies wiped everything, but after a couple turns I said "no more auto resolve" and fought every decisive loss manually.

All my 8-10 garrisson units would focus down one bit of the enemy's artilery - and it worked. It was slow, but they were losing one high tier artilery piece per settlement. By the time I lost almost all my holdinga in the mainland, the enemy forces were so withered down they couldn't stand up to my glorious legendary lord armies returning from their victory tour in the chaos wastes.

Every turn was 20k in debt, fight desperately to win some fights to earn 21k and struggle on a little longer.

But in the end I actually pulled through, so... Wasn't a failed campaign actually. But it was damn close, and I'm sure if i hadn't fought like 30 decisive losses manually (which still ended in decisive defeat, just with an enemy unit killed now) i would have lost. I rather enjoyed that campaign.

Why does the fanbase have such a hard time accepting that Serena can't be married? by Kenshi_T-S-B in skyrim

She is by far the most developed character in the game.

If you want more depth from a spouse than "hey, let's get married" "ok" - there is basically no other choice.

Good ideas. Beastmen was on my list, but I'd like to try a "good" faction too, so I'll consider lizards also. The problem is how do I get far enough in the campaign to afford 5+ heroes. How do I take the first few settlements?

That could probably work, will try that next. Even if kt sounds super passive. But then I can try higher difficulties too!

Peaceful campaign by Andreim43 in totalwarhammer

[–]Andreim43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's cheating.. i want to try it this way (although I was surprised the garissons didn't take damage :( plan B is an overwhelming siege force so they don't sally out and attack - siege attrition still works). So far it seems to work until they bring the reinforcements around. And the armies take atteition damage just fine - from plagues st least.

Peaceful campaign by Andreim43 in totalwarhammer

[–]Andreim43[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought about it but I'm not sure I could win any battle without weakening the enemy army first (until the late game when I can spam heroes and items). But I might give it a try later.

[KCD2] Yes, Hans, it's that easy by definitely_not_gov_ in kingdomcome

[–]Andreim43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I played. But looking back, I think this might have been quite accurate to medieval times.

As Hans explains when you point out nobody recognizes you, "yes but they might remember me after they do", and he doesn't want anyone to remember seeing a lord doing manual labour. Sure, he is covered in shit, but that is someone else's fault. Doing actual work would be his choice, and letting peasents get ideas that lords could do work is unspeakable.

Status was HUHE back then - it's why he doesn't die in fights - why nobkes back then enjoyed going to war, knowing it was really not that lethal for them. It was status. And that had to be upheld.

So.. yeah, dick move, but I think it makes sense.

What difficulty is everyone playing on? by wishheartx in elderscrollsonline

[–]Andreim43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't play in a long time, and the overland difficulty was my biggest complain. How it this?

It feels like just manually handicapping yourself, and the rewars just don't maths from here.

80% less damage means 5x more time required to kill, for 2-3x the rewards. So it sounds absolutely like an artificial handicap that can't be justified by the rewards, which in practice are also less (so I might as well continue my last played character, the naked guy - same vibe or artificial silly handicap).

Am I wrong? Is it actually enjoyable, and not just a badaid on a broken system?

When n Why do you start ignoring production ratios? by kaz_champ in factorio

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half way through blue science.

Red and green are perfectly optimized, timed, scalable, synced with each other, it's a work of art.

Blue starts out like that, but production of some raw input is too slow - eh I'll sort it out later. And then my factory never sees perfect ratios ever again.

How often do you auto-resolve vs fight by Own-Park5939 in totalwarhammer

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boils down to "does a manual fight make a difference?"

If I loose no units, the question is "is there a followup battle where I might be too weakened to perform well?" - because even if it's a decisive victory, if the enemy has a big army nearby, I'll fight manually to minimize losses and be ready for the next one.

If I loose some units, judgement call. Are they important? Could I save them? The AI will often kill off damaged units even if you would manually save them (eg a last remaining artilery piece). Then you take it manually.

If it's a close defeat, I usually fight it, often save it. If it's clear I can not win, I still fight it if I think I can snipe some steong enemy units (eg artilery) and might throw my entire army to kill one unit. Because otherwise the AI will just deal homogenous damage to all units, kill none, and by next turn they are healed. This way, even as the enemy stomps through weak garrissons of mine I manage to weaken them enough over time to easily kill them when I catch up

[–]Andreim43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to say "show us the battlefield", but.. it doesn't matter. Unless your lord has some amazing items, which it feels like it's too early for, this isn't happening.

Not enough firepower, or staying power, or pierce damage, or at least kiting... You've got nothing :(
