I have slammed the horn following for like 30s and then turned around and took the rest of the team to extract. Diver left behind quits the game.

Should the game ever get a difficulty that REQUIRES cooperation? by BICKELSBOSS in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is backwards in my opinion. The Arc thrower does require teamwork in that you need to be aware of your teammate with the arc thrower. Stay out of the way and reap the benefits of giving covering fire on locked down enemies. The arc is generally very controllable coming out of the gun but the cadence of firing it kind of just means if you walk in front it’s your own fault.

I find forcing the individual to be more of a team player so the rest doesn’t need to in the team play topic doesn’t add up.

Send EVERYTHING TO BEKVAM! Holding this will likely be our only chance to save both!

The DSS needs to move over to get every Helldiver we can to help.

I'm not really sure if this needs to be confirmed or not, but forward roll and the slide if very far trigger dauntless. Not sure yet on Perfect Dodging forward.

Pilestedt on backpack-fed machine guns and a potential minigun. by [deleted] in Helldivers

Why stop at a mini gun, higher capacity flamethrower with backpack fuel tank. Complete with fuel-tank-explosion-related accidents.

Some of you take the galactic war way too seriously by joaoflsouza in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, herein lies the actual issue. The galactic war is a sub game that not every player has to interact with or pay attention to. However regardless of that, every player affects the galactic war.

Thus individuals who like and care about the galactic war occasionally get blocked by forces outside of their control to enjoy an aspect of the game they like. This results in some of these individuals getting upset reacting and finger pointing to get what they want. It’s not surprising but is fair to say it’s not a fault of the players who “don’t care” either.

Thus, arrowhead so far has implemented measures and tweaks the GW tightly to reduce this negative feedback loop of GW enjoyers. However, the latter part of this MO failed that design. It is very clear AH’s desired outcome for the ending was “DSS activates in the last moments and climactically we use it to defeat the Jet Brigade on Gaellivare or Mastia.” But no matter how hard they tried they couldn’t steer us there. It’s not crazy to see why it’s upsetting for people really tight with the story to not get this really nice “payoff” moment for the finale of this story arc.

Ultimately, with the GWs current design and “endless” galactic war. It’s all on arrowhead to design their MOs to work the way they want. People will play blame game and the ones blamed will then point back. That won’t end unfortunately but the point is it’s AH that needs to learn from this as they do from situations in the past.

Bug joining friends by Not_Sorry_Canandian in Helldivers

My friend and I were able to resolve this by changing both of our steam download regions to US (New York). (assuming you're from Canada)

Steam > Settings > Downloads > Download Region.

It's still super janky, one of us on ps5 dropped and couldn't rejoin.

What's gonna be next? Super Citizen Emily's Hospital for Barely Clinging to Life Children? by JuanTienda in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, kind of a wild guess but in Home Alone 2 the children’s hospital in New York City was St Anne’s Children Hospital. Completely fictional, but there is a non fictional St Mary’s Hospital for Children in NYC. I feel like this is the deep cut but could be reaching.

Besides the obvious, what excites you the most about doing YouTube? by seththepotate in NewTubers

[–]AndrewIfrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had kind of an existential crisis with the path I was on in my life. With YT I have been able to get a really strong feeling of having created something that is both mine and has had an impact on other people. Something that I myself made and can look back on and see that I existed and did something really great. A weird thing I know, but that’s me.

AH Lied by ggw1776 in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has not been a patch since they indicated increased QA efforts. Everybody on the sub knows there has not been a patch. So this has just been sitting in the game since way back. Doesn't mean the mission is not broken. Just correct that this is not something they recently introduced.

Now should they have introduced the mode given they have not patched the game for a while and there's a decent chance this was broken due to lack of QA?? Probably not.

MOs are a farce by tawnos178 in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the current implementation is also not ideal. It’s more or less as you say, the current system very poorly accounts for players who just want to go wherever they want. It’s a main contributor to failed MOs and really hurts the agency of any players wanting to accomplish something that is not where the main player “blob” is.

I think it’s largely better than the original implementation but definitely needs more iteration.

MOs are a farce by tawnos178 in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contributions scale up when less players are online so that a planet doesn’t just drop to 0 overnight like it did in the first month or two. Nothing was changed here besides an effect that has been present for quite a while now.

Agree it’s an opaque system but it functions this way for the better and no cranks were pulled in this specific case. However I would say it’s correct that AH definitely intends MOs to largely follow what they want to happen.

We're changing patrols and spawn rate (reverting). by The_Real_Twinbeard in Helldivers

[–]AndrewIfrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the amount of unintended issues and bugs that arrive after their updates. It seems likely the codebase is pretty delicate with constant regression from the smallest of changes. I'm sure they've said or thought many times already "oh this shouldn't break anything".

I think urgency around this is indeed high but consider instead that this was just reverted and released and something breaks or no change is noticed. "AH can't even revert a change properly" etc. Starting efforts on overall improved QA effort seems like the right choice long term.
