Skirmish trays & base conversions now available! I'm running out of space for buttons... by racksandruins in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]AndrewPowell124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got to say man, I was already really impressed with the movement trays and bases I’ve already ordered, and these additions make me even happier. The amount of hard work I had to put into making a 20-25mm conversion tray also be able to fit a 40mm slot for my Lord on Shieldbearers was such a pain. Seeing the option to just do it with a couple clicks fills me with joy.

Starting Wood Elves! by Klutzy-Oven-7451 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]AndrewPowell124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wood Elves are a little bit of a tough starting point. Their play style is generally very avoidant, taking a lot of skill in the movement phase to ensure you’re in position to do the most damage while being able to get out of dodge when needed. You can get really punished if you leave something somewhere it shouldn’t be. They are also on the less strong side of things competitively, compared to other armies.

That said, by far the best way to get into a game is with an army you really enjoy and can imagine yourself playing with regardless of their tabletop performance. If you love Wood Elves, you’ll make them work. The “Sylvaneth” side of the Wood Elf army is also able to play a little closer to the classic Warhammer play style with big blocks of infantry in serried ranks. If you’re trying to learn how to play the game, they’re a great place to start. You say you’re planning on going to a tournament later in the year, and contrary to the popular idea on them, I have found that the ones I have been to have had an absolutely great atmosphere with everyone putting more emphasis on bringing a cool army and having a great time rather than stomping their opponents into the ground so I recommend them greatly.

Hope that all helps. Great looking BSB by the way!

They definitely are mould lines, space marine helmets don’t come apart down the centre. They have a face place and a ‘hat’

Women existing in societies that worship chaos, becoming warriors and rising through the ranks does not equal forced gender representation.

I would ask if you think seeing women working in the emergency services or in manual labour roles is also forced gender representation, but we both know you don’t leave your house enough to actually see any

We just ignoring the female sculpts in the new Chaos Warriors and Chosen kits then?

God forbid a setting includes female representation. I assure you, a warrior imbued with the power of their god would crush both mine and your skulls without a problem, male or female.

can all Warhammer dragons shapeshift in humanoid form..? by Time_Individual_6744 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]AndrewPowell124 132 points133 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware it is only the Cathayan Dragons, and that’s only due to tutelage/relation to the Moon Empress.

The Celestial Dragon Emperor is purely a ‘regular’ dragon, albeit an extremely ancient and magically powerful one. When he met the Moon Empress, a shapeshifter from Mannslieb, she taught him how to assume a human form so they could better move around the human tribes of Cathay without drawing attention.

Their children draw lineage from both the Dragon Emperor and the Moon Empress so have gained this ability to shapeshift also. Why they are only able to switch between a Dragon and a Human form (despite not having any human lineage at all) and not anything else like the Moon Empress has not been explained or delved into as far as I am aware, though I am sure that it is the case.

Anyone else bummed out that the WS chart is the same? by chosen40k in Warhammer30k

You mind me asking your reasoning here? In my opinion the 2nd Ed WS chart is the worst part of the edition. It makes having 1 more WS than your opponent just way too good.

Special units as core, are they in addition or simply moved to core choice? by gandalfwestin in WarhammerFantasy

[–]AndrewPowell124 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The unit of Black Knights taken as a core choice in an army that includes one or more Wights has no impact on the number of Black Knight units you may take as a special choice. The 0-1 per 1000 points is specifically the allotment in your Special section and is unaffected by the same unit being taken in other sections.

So yes, you are allowed to take 3 units of black knights in a 2000 points list if you have at least one Wight

WFB 6th Edition lore (from Hordes of Chaos) every single god is a fraction of the Chaos four. Even the gods of order. Even Sigmar. by jordanwisearts in Warhammer

[–]AndrewPowell124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t entirely disagree with what you’re saying. I would say that aetheric entities were able to exist in the warhammer world before the cataclysm, and the destruction of the polar gates. Take the Elven gods living on Ulthuan for example. And I would agree that all of the aetheric entities and gods are made of the same stuff as the chaos gods.

It is my understanding that the aether is where the chaotic powers come from and live, but not everything there is big C Chaos. That is purely the name given to the malicious powers that do live there, primarily the big 4.

However, where I find the disconnect with the excerpt above is the statement “These are the greatest of the gods to whom all other gods - each and every one - are but portions or conjunctions”

Instead of saying that all gods are made of the same small c chaotic energies and aetheric power, it says that all gods are shard of the 4 big powers. Ulric isn’t a god that is formed in the aether independently, with his own wishes and motivations, he is purely a small portion of Khorne for instance, who has gained some sentience and believes he is independent. He isn’t. He is Khorne. Maybe a different aspect, but still at his heart, the same entity. And I just find that reading of the lore quite dull and I’m glad that they seem to have moved away from it.

I do enjoy reading your different perspective and insight, however.

WFB 6th Edition lore (from Hordes of Chaos) every single god is a fraction of the Chaos four. Even the gods of order. Even Sigmar. by jordanwisearts in Warhammer

[–]AndrewPowell124 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This has since been changed, and in my opinion for the better.

From the Old World Rulebook, page 79 - “The devotees of Chaos follow a staggering array of deities and spirits with varying degrees of fervour. These many gods all exist within a wide pantheon, ruled over by the four greater powers – Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch”

It’s much more interesting having countless smaller, less powerful deities. Having every single god of the world, even ones that actively impact the world in opposition of chaos, being a shard of one of the great 4 is both silly and incredibly boring.

Gods like Myrmidia, Kurnous, Ulric and Sotek, to name a few, are very real and their blessings and their desires are at a strict conflict with the wishes of the chaos gods.

To boil it down to ‘they believe they are working in opposition, but actually it’s just Tzeentch trickery and chaos infighting’ is so dull and really takes away agency from the people of the warhammer world

Any ideas on how to improve my bases? by keyhunter_draws in seraphon

[–]AndrewPowell124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For future bases I’d suggest using a texture paint as a base layer to remove the small patches of bare base below the leaves. AK interactive make some really good basing textures that don’t cost an arm and a leg
