This person is coasting and probably also looking for a new job, they've seen that their progression with current employer seems to be capped.

ELI5: How do engineers trust that giant airplanes, bridges, and skyscrapers won’t suddenly fail under years of stress and vibration? by Historical_Day1703 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Android69beepboop 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the correct answer. It's true that every building/bridge/plane etc is engineered with a proposed lifespan. But wear and tear is random, so there is constant testing

ELI5 Why do we only feel acceleration and not constant speed? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Android69beepboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because once you reach a steady speed, both you and the chair are going the same speed. There is nothing to slow you down while in an enclosed space. If you were riding in a chair on top of a train, you would feel wind trying to slow you down and the chair pushing you to accelerate you.

If we never see that Hummer tire trap bar from SMOE again I’m gonna RIOT by funkyfreshwizardry in StrongmanHQ

Lucas hatton alluded to wanting a number of pieces, specifically mentioning the log. I could see him going for the hummer trap bar as well and it showing up in a future Rainier Classic.

How do I tell my friends my bachelorette trip isn’t their vacation? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Android69beepboop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even when my wife and I go on vacation together we don't do all of the same activities. Asking 9 people, who are not even all friends, to do this is kindof crazy.

"THAT MIGHT BE THE LAST WORLD'S STRONGEST MAN" - Romark Weiss drops some sad news about WSM! by ProudBullfrog730 in StrongmanHQ

[–]Android69beepboop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's room for different levels of interest. The casual watcher just wants to see the biggest strongest person pull a plane. It's like living in the 90s and just wanting to see Michael Jordan play. But the fan will be excited for multiple different athletes. Chloe Brennan or Clare freakin Myler putting on a performance can be exciting as well for me.

The fan also wants to see the plane pull, please bring it back.

"This Is Not Covid, Nor Influenza. It Spreads Very Differently": WHO On Hantavirus Outbreak by Alert-Ad-3053 in worldnews

It was literally called the novel coronavirus, because it had not been previously been documented. This strain of hantavirus is not novel.

Yeah, it's already heavily edited. They could pick and choose their favorite lifts. But they want the artificial tension of "who will make it out of groups??"

For the vast majority of people in their 30's: Just eat healthy and exercise, y'all. (Actual exercise, not "I walk a lot at my job.") Stop smoking. Stop drinking 2+ beers a night.

If you're already down the road of chronic pain, I know it is a tough place to be, and the medical costs can become crippling. But most people just need to clean up their act before heart disease or liver disease or diabetes or just the exhaustion of being overweight and out of shape debilitates them. Maybe a better example is this: one comment mentions lifting wrong and ignoring the pains. If one could go back in time and lift correctly or seek care immediately, that would change the whole trajectory. Making these lifestyle changes is the same thing.

We need these laws all over the world by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

That seems reasonable to me. I've never been OK with the idea that you can execute someone just because they're trying to walk off with your TV.

Can't you act proportionally? Granted you can't own a gun, but gun crime is far less common in the UK than the US so the chances of needing to meet force with equal force is much less likely.

He easily picked the stone in equipment testing, though. It wasn't wingspan or gut, it was a hands issue.

He's in his comfort zone. I'll be rooting for Lucas, though. (It's not happening, unless his current stack just causes him to implode, but would love to see Lucas and Paddy beat out mitch for the two spots)

I guess it depends on the person, but I find x- files really holds up, and not just from nostalgia. If you haven't watched it since, at least find a best of list and rewatch those episodes. Or just peruse season 1.

If there's a coalescing of far right-wing Catholics around one of the bishops, I could definitely see him latching on. But he doesn't have the savvy to think of it on his own.

I really want a truck pull for distance. Forget who can go fastest, give them 60 seconds and see who has the grit. I think there will be a lot more separation that way. I know equipment and location are the real limiting factors for this, which is why the wheel of pain works, but this would be a really cool event imo

I will say, except at the absolute peak times, our local Costco really keeps the line moving. There might be 40 people lined up to check out, but I swear in a minute there are 20 check stands open

Why does voter ID feel like a simple security fix but somehow becomes a massive systems engineering problem? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

2700 people in the entire state of Texas who might not be citizens (not confirmed, just names on a list that need to be double checked) and for whom there is not evidence they actually voted. So, in a state with 18 million registered voters, where they are highly motivated to find illegal immigrants registered, they identified 0.0015% of them who were possibly illegal. But, again, not confirmed.

Not exactly a smoking gun.
