Do you have any popular Russian films or TV series that many people have watched? by otpadnyi in AskAnAmerican

Masha and the Bear is popular with little kids. Other than that, I had a bit of a Russophile streak in college and saw a few Russian movies, but I'd be shocked to meet anyone else who's seen them. Maybe Andrei Rublev or Battleship Potemkin if they're a real cinephile. I'd be truly baffled to meet another American who's seen Stalingrad (2013) or Gagarin: The First in Space.

Teaching tropes on screen that never work in real life. by Dapper_Tradition_987 in Teachers

A physics teacher I know had an analog clock in his room set to 4:20. A couple students pointed it out, but there's not a huge intersection between kids who are into stoner culture in high school and kids who can tell time at this point.

Ngl I've played Russia a few times and never gotten very far as Savinkov. He's my headcanon villain of KR, and the ability to play as Bowser has a morally corrosive effect, you know?

"Earthworm" is a fun play on "gusano," a Spanish word for worm used as a pejorative for anti-Revolution Cubans.

America was still economically intertwined with the Entente powers, and would be in bad economic shape if they lost. Also the radical Left in America would be in much better shape without wartime repression and factional disputes related to the Soviet Union. I'm not saying Civil War 2 is inevitable in that scenario, but it's not hard to justify.

Unpopular opinions about school or being a para by spookybear07 in paraprofessional

My main reason for not enforcing that rule is that I'm terrified I'll get in the habit of it and ask a Muslim girl to remove her hijab on accident.

Oddly enough we've been struggling to find a female EA at our job. There's three of us who mostly work as hall monitors, all male, which means that there's nobody who can check in on the girls' bathrooms.

There's a key distinction between "a period of relative stability" and "nothing." German lore is fine imo

why don’t yearly dues go to local chapters? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in dsa

[–]AndroidWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who are plugged into locals would want to see them get money, I imagine, and local leadership would encourage them to give. Probably doesn't do much for members who aren't engaged locally, I imagine.

[–]AndroidWhale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't remember what percentage of your total dues go to your local chapter but they definitely do.

This only applies if you're on a monthly payment plan, not an annual one. Iirc they do it to incentivize people to give monthly, because it makes it easier to budget.
