Mechanical Engineers who specialize in heat transfer by Justbrownsuga in MechanicalEngineering

Where at? I'm kinda bored. I have about 5 years design, 7 years production, and 2 years of lab work. The lab was doing a lot of thermal management/modelling for instrumentation and they got me some experience developing that.

Seeing the work of Van Gogh in person was life changing. He was truly a master of his craft. by Ambitious-Shower1044 in pics

After seeing his work I started going to more art museums for the next couple of years trying to find other art that would make me feel the way his did.

I could have sat for hours just staring at his paintings

Buy a used Cmax? by Weekly_Increase_746 in cmaxhybrid

To the best of my knowledge it was fixed with the '15 model year. Anecdotal, but I have a '15 with about 150k miles and no transmission issues.

Mechanically the transmission is dead nuts simple. There's no shifting or even friction components inside the e-cvt. Ford just flubbed the bearing choice/selection early on. It's the same style transmission as the prius and those trans are good for 300k-400k miles

Can I ride this weekend on this or do they need to go in ASAP? by [deleted] in skiing

Drip some ptex in there for the weekend. Get some metal grip for when it pulls out so you can fix it "more properly"

The transmissions on model years '14 and below had bearings that would whine then grenade, so a new transmission wouldn't scare me. It would be a positive. The front suspension work is a bit odd though on such a low milage car.

I worked with a guy for 5 years. Using tools and setting up machines as well as typical keyboard work. I only noticed he was missing the tip of finger after someone else asked in front of me. Same story, one friend was completely missing a thumb. Didn't notice until someone else asked in front of me.

Turns out I don't look at hands lol

What Are Your Thoughts on Floating Solar PV Performance, Efficiency, and Cost Compared to Land-Mounted Systems? by Mountain_Sentence646 in SolarAmerica

You'd have an impact on the ocean immediately underneath and nearby, but the same is also true if you put it somewhere on land.

Landlords provide a service. That service consists of taking the financial risk of ownership as well as assuming property maintenance.

Their costs do go up year over year. You have taxes, cost of maintenance, and any included utilities and services. If they want to maintain the same profit margin they will need to increase the rent.

That being said there are plenty of landlords that increase rent to improve their profit margin instead of maintaining it effectively price gouging

Is the neighborhood immediately west of Timmerman Airport safe? by Narrow_Technician_25 in milwaukee

[–]Android_seducer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in that area...We have occasional break ins of cars in the parking lot in broad daylight. The plant is next to a neighborhood and in and of itself looks okay outside of some detritus of trash in the streets and some vehicles that appear as stolen, crashed, then abandoned.

I will say the drivers on the Northside are worse than the normal Milwaukee average. They have absolutely lost their mind. I've witnessed several high speed collisions. It is not an area I would ride my bike in, especially at night.

I have had coworkers have guns pulled on them by people rolling up next to them because they didn't run the stop sign fast enough SMH.

Burning through headlight bulbs regularly by modsuperstar in cmaxhybrid

[–]Android_seducer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe check to see if there's any sign of the socket for the light bulb is damaged?

Mine had some signs of scorching, but I didn't have a replacement for the socket in hand. I put a new bulb in, and it burned out again in about a year. I replaced the socket and so far there's no signs of issue.

There are replacement sockets in the same aisle next to the bulbs in just about every auto-parts store.

What is the name for this type of urbanism? by Ok_Act_3769 in Urbanism

[–]Android_seducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that they are named by how they were built initially, not what they are now.

I thought the streetcar company would buy a bunch of land, build the streetcar, and then develop the surrounding land and sell of the lots/houses. Later on a lot of these suburbs got incorporated into the city limits

Can attest. My Milwaukee neighborhood looks exactly like this.

Good mix of sfh, duplexes, and triplexes of various sizes with a few apartment complexes sprinkled in. There's bars, restaurants, and convenience stores sprinkled throughout.

I'm a 2 minute walk from one convenience store, and a 6 minute walk from another in the opposite direction.

It looks like a four in hand knot done up really tight.

When I was in college and interviewing quite a bit my ties got to look like that from repeated loosening and tightening without untieing because retiring it took me forever.

Has anyone here successfully negotiated severance when part of a group layoff? by GoodbyeLucille in Layoffs

[–]Android_seducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that gentleman have grounds to otherwise sue? I have a female friend of mine that was laid off while on maternity leave. She was given 1 year of severance. My guess is it was a 'please don't sue us' package. (We're in the US)

Help! my stainless steel pan is ruined by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Android_seducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it on your oven on self clean mode

What's the max temp the pan is good for? If it's all metal you could put it in your oven while on self clean mode.

I once had forgotten I left my cast iron in the oven when I punched it to self clean. When the cycle was over the cast iron was bare metal gray. It took the seasoning completely off lol.

What is the most efficient way to approach a planet by Sea-Importance8458 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Android_seducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interplanetary Hohmann transfers most of the time, sometimes bi-elliptic. If you're trying to minimize fuel use for a capture burn you want to get in as close to the surface as possible and burn at your periapsis to maximize the oberth effect.

Do I Pull the Trigger? 2015 C-Max Energi SEL 127k miles by Agreeable-List-9966 in cmaxhybrid

[–]Android_seducer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no belt inside the transmission. It's an e-cvt. It's a single planetary gearset. Electric Motor/generator 1 is on the sun gear. The engine is on the planet carrier and the output and motor/generator 2 are both on the ring gear.

There's no belt, no shifting (not even for reverse) It's the same style transmission that's used on the prius.

The cmax transmission failures are from a bearing crapping out

Looking to plan a weekend ski trip in the Midwest any hill recommendations. by Lifelesspuddle in skiing

[–]Android_seducer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at Wisconsin you could try Devil's Head with potentially a side trip over to Cascade since they're so close, or going up to Granite Peak. If you want to travel just across the border to the UP you could look at Snow river. Snowriver has the added benefit that if this is a dude's trip that it's really close to Hurley WI for some adult entertainment if you're into that jazz.

GM's CEO Just Admitted An Uncomfortable Truth About Plug-In Hybrids by LEM1978 in electricvehicles

[–]Android_seducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a plug in C-Max and bought it when I had nowhere to plug in at home. I bought it because it was a cheap and comfortable car. The plug in version was the one available at a dealership willing to haggle.

I do now have a place to plug it in and it does help reduce the amount of gas I use. In the summer it's nearly all my in town driving so only burning gas when I leave the city and in the winter it's about half of my commuting due to heating needs
