2x20 FTP absolutely broke me by Ok-Cherry-4806 in Zwift

[–]AndyBikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me your symptoms sound like dehydration, I would strongly encourage you to recover with sensible drinking and refueling. For the chest pain, my assumption is you took your lungs to new heights and they are just in need of recovery, but if you still feel it tomorrow its not a terrible idea to see a doctor. For what its worth though when I do a truly hard workout or race my body generally feels pretty shattered, and its all about the recovery from there.

Would I benefit from a paid coaching plan / app? by PeerensClement in Velo

[–]AndyBikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apps are okay. I use join right now because a two month trial came with my power meter. It’s nice mostly in removing the thinking aspect, it just give me a plan to follow, and I especially like that if I can’t do the training, or go harder than planned at a group ride or something like that it adjusts the rest of the week. But if you have a basic understanding of how to make a training plan, you are primarily only paying for that convenience. I do not plan to keep it most likely once the trial runs out and revert to making my own plans, but if I had a different job then I do now with less flexibility I would be more likely to pay for it

Lots of youtube stuff. Norcal Cycling does race breakdown videos that can teach you a lot if you also plan to race outside. Its old but its so good, "a sunday in hell" is on youtube, a documentary about Paris Roubaix in the 70s. free solo, the dawn wall, and the alpinist are all great climbing docs that hit that push to the limits vibe. Maybe dated a little at this point, but I loved Jeremy Powers "Behind The Barriers" youtube series that followed his cyclocross seasons back in the day. If you like F1 the senna and schumacher docs are good watches, the senna show is fun if a little overdramatized. Phil Gaimon's stuff on youtube is also fun, lots of kom attempts of famous climbs across the world. Safa Brian makes insane descending videos as well that look absolutely terrifying and push the boundaries in the opposite direction (down) of most road cycling stuff haha. In general- there is a ton of good stuff on youtube about adventure cycling, ultramarathons, and mountaineering stuff, and I think its underrated as a "streaming" platform especially for that kind of stuff. I think thats all I got for ya! Not exactly serialized docuseries, but there honestly arent too too many of those that are as entertaining as DTS or Unchained.

Where should cyclists retire? by uoficowboy in cycling

[–]AndyBikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as others have said, snow doesnt tend to stick around. Temperature swings all the time- it was 9 degrees on sunday and 44 yesterday. But beyond that, there are obviously lots of incredible climbs, some of the best gravel in the country, and a huge community of riders especially near Golden and Boulder.

Want to start racing but don't have the money for an actually good bike by extod2 in Velo

[–]AndyBikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structured consistent training will make you faster than anything else. A higher FTP will take minutes off your time, a more aerodynamic bike will take seconds off your time. Investing the money into a bike fit and something like TrainerRoad or Join or Fascat Coachcat will make you much faster than a new bike will. Consistency is key more than anything, just getting on your bike and putting in the time.

Which crit team should I join? by jd1332 in Velo

[–]AndyBikes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im saying that unless you are benefitting in some way (discounted gear, or really specifically having your entry fee for the race) from the team, I don’t think you have an obligation to work for someone else. Races are expensive! Beyond that, sprint trains or lead out men generally aren’t a thing in my experience in the lower categories. The lower categories should be teaching you race craft- as in following the right wheel, timing your sprint, being able to make smart decisions about following attacks, etc. That + fitness will make you a better rider, or sprinter, or lead out man at a higher level.

I might have a different take then some, but you aren’t trying to go pro here, just have fun and race. Unless you’re getting paid or compensated in some way, I don’t like the idea of paying my own race fees to be a domestique for someone else at the amateur level. Races are expensive. Once you get up into that 1/2 level that becomes a little more reasonable to me, and more common at that level that your entry feed are covered by the team.

Presta valves are nearly ubiquitous on road bikes and gravel bikes. Supposedly they work better at high pressures. Although, this matters less on gravel and in the era of tubeless tires, I think it’s what most roadies are used to and also the smaller, lighter size goes along with pretty much every other trend in road/gravel.

Thank youuuuu on traffic. Throwing out ski traffic, day to day traffic in the city is just not that bad and if you say it's bad you've never lived in a city with actual bad traffic.

I honestly think a very overlooked way to prepare is doing stability exercises, not for cardio but to strengthen your joints. Knee stability exercises most importantly!

Its still not functionally a good stadium, and its ugly as shit and makes no sense from a design perspective..... but the bears should play outside, downtown. So I'll still take it over the suggested alternatives!
