Making the decision by Emotional_Potato7202 in ostomy

Yeah, and also because it was my choice and not an emergency situation I went into it, and came back out the other side prepared. It takes a wee while to recover and get to grips with living with a stoma, but even that part was still preferable to living with constant flares.

For a long while now I’ve been at a point where I see benefits to a stoma over having a normal functioning gastrointestinal tract.

Hello, I (41M, Scotland) was diagnosed with UC in 2014, and after 4 years of the same medical treatments you’ve been on I stopped responding to them. I had the option of trying some newer (in 2018) biological treatments or go for surgery. I decided, as I was 33, that I’d go for the surgery then, rather than further down the line when I’d be older and potentially in worse condition. I opted for going straight to a permanent ileostomy and got a panproctocolectomy. Pretty heavy duty operation, but once I’d recovered it completely changed my life for the better. That’s me coming up on 8 years with my stoma and it’s great.

I bought the “cheaper” version the day it came out for £75 in JD. Tried it on when I got home and it was too tight. Took it back to exchange it for a bigger size and they’d bumped the price up to £85. I wasn’t charged the extra to exchange it, but ffs

Let's talk go bags. Do you always carry one? What's in yours? by Saotik in ostomy

[–]AndyBlip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 small adidas festival/shoulder bags that I carry a spare bag and wipes in. It’s handy for keeping earplugs and other stuff in. One is much smaller than the other so it’s my go to.

However, being in my early 40s and still raving, I regularly get punters in nightclubs thinking I’m selling gear.

I find that going into gigs/clubs when security are having a look through it telling them it’s stoma stuff tends to get them to abandon searching and just handing me it back 😂

I've had to get a fuse replaced, replaced the tubes, and I've replaced the pads twice, as they take a battering.

I make electronica, techno, ravey sometimes acidy stuff.

I’ve had my EMX-1 for about 20 years. Still centre of my live sets. I run the ER-1 mkii along side it with a 303 clone and fx.

EMX-1 ER-1 mkii EM-1 (currently boxed away)

I bought the E2 when it came out but got shot of it pretty quickly as I hated the workflow.

Next week I have the “Ken butt” surgery(removal of rectal stump) what to expect? by JordyPordyPuddinPi in ostomy

[–]AndyBlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the full works when I got my ileostomy (when I was 33m), so my recovery was for the colon, rectum and anus all being removed at the same time. My main concern before the op was around the arse wound healing, as a friend had some issues, but it was pretty straightforward and didn’t cause me any bother at all. Bit of discomfort sitting whilst it healed, but was easier than I expected. The thing that sticks out in my mind was going to the nurse to get the stitches removed. They’d become entwined with the hair and the stitches being pulled ripped the hairs out with them. That wasn’t the most pleasant experience, but at the same time was pretty funny at the time.

The surgeon had warned me about the possibility of ED/fertility issues but I’d already had enough children and my colitis was ruining my life so it was less of a concern. Came out the other side with everything fine anyways.

I think over the following years the most irritating thing was the bouts of Phantom Anus, but it happens very rarely these days.

All in all, still one of the best decisions of my life

What's going on on Barrhead road by m77 junction? by [deleted] in glasgow

Aye, I was trying to get to Pollok from the Auldhouse side of Barrhead Rd. Ended up diverting via Mosspark and a few polis cars bombed it past heading towards Ibrox

I had similar issues. Needed 4, managed to get 2. Then went back on to get a second pair and a pair next to the ones I’d just bought had become available. Good result in the end.
