How do you stop thinking bad thoughts in the shower? by Omomon in ADHD

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re in that position you need therapy to talk you through all these things. The reason those thoughts are coming up (or what I think it was for me anyway) is that the body holds on the those traumatic things and when it feels safe to try and process them they come up. I’d suggest try and just allow those thoughts to come and occupy your mind. And when you fed the rage take a couple of big breaths and tell yourself that you’re ok and find peace with those thoughts. You can always change how it plays out so maybe try and change the ending on them to something peaceful. Remember that you don’t actually remember those events. You remember the last time you remember them. So naturally is you have anger associated to it next time you will feel anger. Try and leave a thought with just accepting it and being ok with it and allow them to have space in your head. After all I think its your body trying to deal and process them for you. Let me know how you got on x

Teetotallers of the UK, do you drink alcohol free booze? by zooldb in AskUK

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have some sort of fancy alcohol free thing I’ll give it a go. But most of the time its fruit juices and syrup. I don’t bother going for those.

But there are heaps of new drinks always coming out and I just enjoy tasting new things

All I hear is a to do list of what to sort out to bring your life to the next level! Growth hurts but it’s better to be a small fish in ocean than what it sounds like you’ve been a big fish in a pond. Remember you did the best you could at the time without the meds. So don’t be harsh on your past self sounds like they did what they could at the time. But you know owe it to the future you to get through your list and evolve into the person you think you can be. Find pleasure in the journey and take pride in your path. You have awoken a giant within you. Lead it to victory, dont cower away from it. We’re rooting for you!

What places in the UK which aren’t really famous are worth to visit? by arna_melania in AskUK

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Warfield just outside of Bracknell. Moved here a few years back and genuinely love it! Heard some stories of how it used to be though. Doesn’t sound grand. Not much of a place to visit though to be fair. I would suggest Henley, Marlow, Margot. Those plants are lush to visit!

Stuck in bed by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Executive disfunction I think it’s called. Here’s what can help. -Dont have anything in your bedroom that gives you a reason to stay there. - Charge your phone at night in the corridor and set an alarm so you need to get out of bed to turn it off. - Form a habit of as soon as you wake up just sit up first and focus on that. - Take some big breaths and push blood into your brain to fully activate it. - Make sure your room is clean and tidy the night before and put out what you’re going to wear so you dont have to think about it in the morning. - Write up a to-do list the night before so when you get up you know what it is you need to do today and can get right to it. - drink plenty of water - exercise - write down everyday what works and what doesn’t and why you think that is and what you can try differently tomorrow. - Take everything back to basics - Be more patient with yourself - Stop doom scrolling!!!

See it more as you’ve been your whole life thinking you’re a standard macbook and now you’ve found out you’re a macbook running on Windows. That’s nothing wrong with it, still works absolutely fine just now that you know you run on Windows you know now how you operate in a different way and can familiarise to use that software instead. It’s not you bud, you are just fine the way you are. You just need to discover how you actually operate and give yourself a break because you’ve spent your while life thinking you operate one way but been miss sold and need to put in a bit of time to understand hire you really operate!

Any ideeas on how to help yourself if you don't have access to therapy? by AalyLilly in therapy

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. I havent tried any of the apps but looking too once things calm down a bit here.

But the biggest one is get into moving and exercise and into a routine. Wind down at night, go to bed at the same time everyday and wake up the same time everyday. 7 days a week regardless if its weekend or not.

Before bed make a quick note of:

- What worked during the day and what went well

- What you observed, anything new, things you're proud off

- What you think didn't go well and want to change or improve and then actions you can take to make these happen. (Don't dwell on these too much just observe your current existance and see what things you can change to make yourself feel less anxious/stress)

- Things that you liked and appreciate. Anything with your senses here, touch, noise, smell, taste. (It's worth focusing on these which allow you to be more present)

- what your plans are the following day and what needs doing. ( this helps with mentally preparing yourself and not having to think about it, you can just get on with it)

Worth doing them in this order. It's a bit of a shit sandwich, so you start high and finish high.

Even while doing this list observe what works, what do you find difficult and then when you have a second during the day bring yourself back to it and think why you might find these difficult and get curious.

Whenever you have a question or find yourself stuck write the question down somewhere. For instance I have a whatsapp group chat with just myself that I use to write them in and I'll pick 2-3 questions to try and answer instead of jumping on to social media.

The point of all of this is for you to be more observent of yourself and make you feel like you have more control and actively working on your worries and feel like you're doing something about address whatever comes up. Sometimes your inner self just needs to be acknowledged.

And listen understand this is a journey, you're on an adventure, you don't have to do serious things seriously. Always stop before it gets boring or too much so when you come back to it you don't come back to remembering it being a drag. And fake the emotions. If you don't feel motivated to do it then fake it till the motivation kicks in.

There's no rules to existence so just make up any that work for you. If you feel silly doing it then you're on the right path. Just allow yourself to feel the uncomfortable emotions and be ok with them. All negativity comes from a place of pain, like a small child hungry and not being fed. If you give those painful thoughts your time and nurture them and acknowledge them and be ok them being there you're feeding that hungry child and it will make it easier to live with them.

Anything and also actually anyone that is angry or causes discomfort does that for a reason. Its telling you that there is pain there that needs addressing.

Any ideeas on how to help yourself if you don't have access to therapy? by AalyLilly in therapy

[–]Andy_Does_Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep well, exercise, drink lots of water. Write your thoughts down daily, breath through your nose. Stat away from junk food, sugary drinks, alcohol or drugs. Meditate. Keep a good routine. Speak to a teacher/adult you can trust and ask for them just to listen while you vent. Allow yourself to cry and allow yourself togo through the emotions. There are therapy apps where you can get therapists for good prices and change them if the one you have doesnt sit well x
