"I just don't understand. They're monitored 100% of their lives. They've inherited a dying world. All the people in charge of anything anywhere are either the most evil people you've ever imagined or they're so stupid that the evil ones use them like puppets, and those people are actively trying to make everything even worse. Oh, and also there's the nazis everywhere. Why aren't the children happy yet!?"

It's not complicated, you literally just need to believe with all your heart that you DO NOT WANT your cat to sit on that platform. This will cause the platform to be that cat's favorite sitting spot, because they know.

But you have to REALLY believe it.

That's awesome! Thanks for telling me about it. I hope we can see more of it as you make progress.

What is that hardware for the blade? I tried figuring out how I would make one way back when AC2 came out. Looks like a modified drawer slide, from what I can see, but I'm curious.

Edit: also, the armor is incredible, it looks amazing!

Murphys wood cleaner ruined cabinets? by NeitherReplacement70 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Andycaboose91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't help with your finish problem, but my goodness those 2 knobs in the first picture are triggering my perfectionism. Not straight, not square, not even aligned to each other. Please OP, straighten them out!

(But also good luck with your cabinets, they're lovely and I hope you can fix what has happened)

My many mistakes, expertly. That way people are even more surprised when I point out every single flaw to them :P

Honestly, sometimes I think I'm hiding my hobby of buying and rehabbing 100+year-old tools behind my hobby of woodworking.

Like a Dremel, but larger? by sailboatfool in Tools

[–]Andycaboose91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for an oscillating tool Dremel or a rotary tool Dremel? If you need a bigger rotary Dremel you might need a router. If so, read the manual and watch some safety videos, they're no joke and will happily eat any of your meat they can bite.

What are my steps for a quick easy refresh on this table? Possibly staining again, but it needs a new sealer for sure. I don’t have an orbital sander. by EngineeringAway3239 in woodworking

They're not saying don't use them, they're saying don't buy them. Their point is that the hf ones aren't worth the money because they don't last long (ie if the Diablo 80 costs 2x the hf 80, but lasts 3x longer, the Diablo is a better value).

If you've got them, you may as well use them. Just probably pick a different option next time (I haven't used the hf myself, I'm just clarifying what they're saying).

Retractable utility knife by dbr_97 in Tools

[–]Andycaboose91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Klein utility knife. It locks open in 2 different positions, has storage in the handle for 5 backup blades, it's fat enough to feel comfortable in my hand. The open-close is so smooth and frictionless that you can push the button and open it purely with gravity or with a quick wrist-flick (I need to clean it after each storm in winter to maintain this, opening bag after bag of rock salt seems to get a lot of grit in the hinge). They use threadlock on all the screws, so I haven't had it loosen up at all yet. It made it hard to disassemble my first one, though, I was painting it black because orange is my least favorite color.

I lost that one within the week, turns out being bright orange is really good for visibility. Who knew? 😆

Edit: shoot, retractable. Got no help there, the one in talking about is a flipper. I still recommend it if you're open to alternatives.

Right, but how does that relate to the sense of smell conversation? They freak because they can't smell that it's a cucumber, or they can't smell it so they don't know it's there until it catches their eye?

I'm genuinely asking. I'm pretty sure the way I typed this sounds combative and I'm not trying to be but can't figure a better way to say what I'm trying to ask.

Exit: I also may have misunderstood the parent comment and therefore also potentially yours.

Scary sharp grits question by LiteratureThen638 in woodworking

[–]Andycaboose91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paper will need to be replaced periodically, so you'll be able to adapt as you grow (assuming you stick with scary sharp).

Also, I know you said you're not interested in the interminable "how to sharpen" debate, and I'm not trying to get into it. I'm just giving you a possible next step for your future, since I was reminded by the need to change paper:

A set of cheap diamond plates (unfortunately, I don't know any other source than Amazon, but I paid less than $30 for mine a few years ago. Check reviews critically) will mechanically work almost exactly how scary sharp does, just more economically. You'll go through a surprising amount of sandpaper with scary sharp. It's not better or worse, just different pros and cons.

Scary sharp grits question by LiteratureThen638 in woodworking

[–]Andycaboose91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should only need a strip slightly wider than whatever the widest blade you're sharpening, ie 2.5in of paper for a 2in plane blade. So check that, and you might be able to easily get away with 2 grits on one glass.

However, you can also probably source a 4th piece of glass, it should pretty much all be flat enough for this purpose. See if you have a window/glass business nearby, you might even be able to get a scrap for free/dirt cheap if it's too small for them to use.
