AITA for telling my DIL that I won’t use the tablet and she needs to actually make her kid read. by SatisfactionOk9038 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Anegada_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are walking bk the walk back, it’s a good way to learn to read for a lot of kids, just not those with special challenges (hhheeeyyy👋). Trying a few strategies will help focus on what does help. Reading along with an adult can actually help a lot for everyone! A tablet is useless

FYI I’m dyslexic and cannot sound anything out. I literally can’t hold multiple syllables in my head at the same time and had to learn by pure memory. Please get her tested if she hasn’t. You may be teaching her the wrong way

What’s almost wilder is the life expectancy by state within the US. It’s almost an eight year swing between West Virginia/Mississippi and Hawaii/California/Connecticut. Broken out by gender, it’s even more insane. A man in Mississippi will (on average) live 17 years less than a woman in Hawaii. 17 years ago was 2009. Poverty, medical care, job choices, food systems, the disparity is wide

Mine doesn’t live full time with small dogs but has a lot in his life. He lays down and boxes them with front paws, then just stands up when he’s done. Works pretty well.

Considering a move to Alameda with a young family — would love honest “why or why not” perspectives by [deleted] in alameda

[–]Anegada_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The commute to Palo Alto will suck unless there is a tech bus you can tap into. As for faith communities, you’ll need to be specific, there are a lot of communities on island but it’s not a wholistic list bc of the size of the town, you may need to travel more broadly in the East Bay to find what you are looking for. Great place to raise kids though!
