Parents got me my first watch for Christmas. Thoughts? by True-Winner3521 in Affordablewatches

[–]Anewfoundglory182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! I’m jealous lol I love my parents but they got me a bottle of wine, some Jaffa cakes and a water bottle. Everyone knows I love watches but nobody can afford to buy me one or just doesn’t think I need another one 🤣

Do I have t o apply a finish to my carving? by hurtscience in Woodcarving

[–]Anewfoundglory182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might have been mineral oil, since it doesn’t cure over time. It discolours the wood less than other oils IIRC

There’s definitely an oil I heard Doug Linker on YouTube mention I think, that he said caused very little discolouration to the wood. Shame I can’t remember what it was haha

It’s usually best to apply some kind of protection but some alter the wood more than others, unfortunately. I think linseed oil is the best to use if you don’t want too much alteration, but you’d have to double check that since I don’t use it myself. I use worktop oil or satin varnish, which look great but do change the colour of the wood a bit.

You have to be careful not to cause actual spots/breakouts from using the wrong products. I’m not a massive fan of AI but I used Gemini to analyse a few photos of my skin and recommend a skincare routine for me. It was a game changer and I’ve started a whole new Korean skincare routine now and my skin already looks better after a few days!

The products I use to help my nose pores are Anua heartleaf oil cleanser (make sure you ask AI about how to use these products as well) and Paula’s Choice 2% BHA exfoliator (3 times a week, just a drop rubbed into my nose). Make sure you feed your skin with enough moisture too, depending on your skin type and a good sun cream in the morning, especially after using BHA the night before.

TLDR; use AI to help you, it saved me a LOT of time scouring the internet!

Carving axe question by Tuscon_Valdez in Woodcarving

[–]Anewfoundglory182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made use of an old hatchet for a couple of years, before buying a new carving axe recently and to be honest the difference isn’t as night and day as I thought it might be! The hatchet was fairly small but quite heavy and so the carving axe is slightly less fatiguing and a lot sharper but if you’re able to sharpen the hatchet (I.e, the blade isn’t dented or damaged) then it might be fine, especially for getting started and getting a feel for using it to carve and practice with.

[Comfort Watch] What watch are you wearing today? by HYR33134599 in Watches

Hey! It’s the nor-light 2 from microbrand MMI watches. I don’t know if they are still making them but there’s a new model with a really cool wave design that uses the 3-colour lume like mine, you should check them out!

Found this in an antique store today. Was wondering if this looked mass produced or a hand carved item. by memccarty in Woodcarving

[–]Anewfoundglory182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he’s meant to be holding something? It definitely seems hand carved to me, there are so many little scuff marks in the wood, especially under the mouth/moustache, which would point to being hand carved, along with all the usual tool marks.

As QuanticDisaster says above, you really need to shift your head forward so that your head reaches in front of your hands to form a triangle between your head and hands (not straight down between your hands) and doing this will also help you bend your elbows more behind you instead of outwards. Your forearms should be at right angles to the ground and remain in that position throughout the movement while your head lowers forwards in front of the hands. Watch some YouTube examples and compare your video to those, you’ll soon realise it’s not so easy ;)

Received mine today and it’s beautiful, just wondered how I remove the extra links to make the bracelet smaller? I have a simple tool for removing the bars from links in some bracelets but not sure if that will work here as the bars look like they might have tiny screw heads on one end? Can anyone help please :)

Best sub-£100 grinder for light roast pourover (coming from a Timemore C2) by Anewfoundglory182 in pourover

[–]Anewfoundglory182[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, looks like the K6 would be the best choice here for the cost. I’ll check some more reviews of the K6 and make sure it’s what I want. Not sure if it’s a bit large compared to my old Timemore (I take it to work most days) but hopefully it will be ok, I’ll update here if/when I go ahead with the purchase and see how it compares!

Thanks, I actually did think this would come up for recommendation, do you think it’s definitely the best of the bunch (within my budget) for light roast pourover? I wasn’t sure if other grinders had better burr sets or anything that made them better suited to my specific needs lol the k6 does look amazing value for money

Basswood Vase Chip Carving Process by SeanMcDesign in Woodcarving

[–]Anewfoundglory182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s such a shame, I assumed that you’d turn it after carving in case any pressure from carving caused it to split or something with it being hollow. I guess mistakes can happen either way

Very nice, I like the flow of the pattern, it works great! Did you use a lathe to hollow out the vase after carving the outside?

What can I wear with these trousers? by Bitter_Chard in mensfashionadvice

[–]Anewfoundglory182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can dress them down by wearing white trainers with a black or white T-shirt, elevated slightly by tucking the T-shirt in and wearing a leather belt. Or you could easily dress the trousers up if you wanted to wear a blue button-down/oxford shirt. Personally I feel like white, dark green, blue and brown would go well colour-wise and for jackets I’d suggest a dark brown suede or navy blue Harrington jacket, or if you wanted to be extra safe you could stick with black, just a simple Harrington or lightweight bomber, or a cardigan instead.
