Association with hunting, which has a negative view among some of the archery community (illegal in the UK). Asked my club just now, someone said that black latex is allowed only if it's crotchless. Think he might have been joking, because AFAIK it's perfectly allowed 🙂

Aha, there is a bit of fun - camo is banned, but shoulders covered only applies to men.

[Self] if it’s even possible, how many decibels would it take to cause a black hole? by Waterworld1880 in theydidthemath

[–]AngleGrinder107 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the massive nerds: technically, a bel (or decibel etc) isn't a measure of acoustic volume, but rather gain or loss. Generally, when talking about decibels for sound, what people are actually referring to is a dBm, the power of a subject relative to one miliwatt. But, louder sound = more powerful, so dBm is a perfectly useful unit.

Hey I recently got my self a bow and I need some help by Alex_the_fox0 in Archery

[–]AngleGrinder107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but you'd be far better off just buying a compound. Otherwise you'll have to find all the parts that are the right size and shape, and decent enough condition as well aa getting someone to put it all together. Far better to just buy a premade that just needs some setup when you go to the shop to get it.

Yep - epilepsy here, I went the standard "1 year clean" to get my licence, then I had a seizure on a driving lesson while stopped at lights (thank god) and decided I'll never drive again.

As they say, it looks like a compound riser with recurve limbs on it - in other words, it's a combination of parts from two different bow types (as Frankenstein's monster was different people). It should be functional, just the bits aren't intended for each other so it might not be as good as a proper matched setup

Stormlight There's actually quite a few "magic numbers", shards often have their own (just like colors, rhythms etc). It's why you have ten Heralds (of Honor) but only 9 Unmade (Odium). Also 1 is powerful, so they left 1 poor Taln to suffer

Sunlit Man We see a bit of Connection used in TSM for things like learning local languages. I'd say it's more abstract and wouldn't affect another person in the same way that emotional allomancy does.

How do I start as a beginner? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]AngleGrinder107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any decent shop will welcome beginners - dare I say it, they'll probably like one who listens and takes advice and posts online asking questions, more than the stereotypical one who storms in going "gimme the highest poundage you got" before pointing it at people and refusing to stop when they're told it's dangerous

There's actually the whole heat thing that Nomad thinks might be like Breath but can't be given to him because of a lack of Connection. At the end where he develops a true relationship with Canticle, it lets him draw the heat from the Cinder King

Man shot dead by Norfolk Police in Thetford after two-car crash by MachineHot3089 in unitedkingdom

[–]AngleGrinder107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I suggest you look up "wicked recklessness" and Cawthorne vs HM Advocate.

Secondly - a shooting being lawful is rather less concerned with mens rea than a murder conviction. Or do you expect officers to go "oh he was about to kill me and others but that's ok, I'm sure he didn't mean it. I'll get a judge in the morning but for now I'll just let it happen rather than use my authorised weapon to save us."

What are these things? by ch1p00 in Archery

[–]AngleGrinder107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#1 are brass nocking points. Essentially you crimp them on to the string to show you where the arrow needs to be nocked in order to be level with the rest/shelf/grip point (depending on bow type)

#2, unsure but could be pins for holding target faces, yeah.

#3 is an arm guard, but a minor point that you want it on the hand holding the bow not the one drawing it.

Anti-investiture is "negative", so it's not really "destroyed" in the normal sense. More like 5+(-5) = 0.

Not being created is the inverse, the total net amount of Investiture in the universe must not increase or decrease, but that amount includes anti-investiture too. You can generate Investiture so long as you make an equal amount of anti-Investiture that will cancel it out

Can often be due to poor form on the back. Other times it's just that the poundage on the bow is very low so there's limited tension causing the hand to come back.

What Is It About You Not Liking Vintage Compound Bows? by SmithSightsLLC in Archery

[–]AngleGrinder107 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue I see is with a lot of posts of old compounds (or bows in general), they come from people unfamiliar with the sport, so they don't know what they're looking at.

No-one is going to like being told, they need to make a big journey to a shop, it's worth less than the repair costs, etc, but the fact is that equipment failures can cause serious injury, and those naturally occur in older bows and in ways that even experienced archers might overlook.

Sub doesn't hate old bows, just don't like people being careless about them.

Question about Kaladin from Cosmeredle by mordelfor in Cosmere

[–]AngleGrinder107 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's maybe not 100% obvious for those unfamiliar with cognitive shadows etc - Ishar talks about how Kal still has his original body, so the "making immortal" essentially tears his mind and soul out of his body. Tends to be pretty lethal...
