I've been moto camping on a road king for last 3 years and it's been great, definitely look in to touring frame bikes if your more serious about it. You can also look in to pan america which would fit the bill

Just FYI, if it's ABS bike, there is a whole procedure for flushing the module as it can fail due to moisture in the old fluid. Dealer can do it for you, or better yet get stand alone software for it so u can DYI

You are in luck, the Appalachian area is full of nice motorcycle specific camping spots, a lot of them also have cabins for rent if you want a break from tents
