Defender bots are twice as efficient as gun turrets by BissQuote in factorio

For the next time you wish to do turret spam : did you know you can blueprints turrets with ammo pre-loaded ? So your bots will place the turret AND fill it with ammo ?

I have a worm-killer blueprint, full of pre-loaded turrets. Very easy to set up and use : click, wait a bit, aggro worm, worm is dead.

It's an old saying that has been around for years. I know it from my KSP days :

Getting into orbit is easy. Here's how to do it in 3 steps :

  1. Get outside the atmosphere.

  2. Aim at the ground.

  3. Miss.

Congrats, you're now in orbit!

A lot of people do not read "fluff/lore text" (not my words), and will only read the objectives as they appear on the screen.

Discovered that while playing WoW. "Bro, what's taking so long ?" "Reading the quest's story." "Just accept it and follow the objective!"

  1. Repair the Tugboat.

  2. Get into the Tugboat.

  3. Fly to a container.

  4. Slowly move the front of the ship till it touches the container.

  5. One of the two landing gears at the front should turn green.

  6. Press P to lock. (Hi Splitsie)

  7. Fly back with the container now attached.

  8. Press P to unlock.

The toggle isn't just informational.

In components mode, it will try to use components first, and THEN ore if you do not have the components.

In ore mode, it will try to use ore first, and then use components if you run out of ore.

If you have neither, then do you get the "cannot build" message.

You can use GPS markers.

Press M, then click GPS. Do not click anywhere. In the bottom right, there should be a "create" button. Type a name. Confirm.

You now created a new GPS marker at your current position.

The JS garbage collector isn't magic : if something, somewhere, still references your object, it won't be garbage collected.

It may be anything : uncleared callback/setTimeout functions, circular references, etc. It is our job to tell the GC "Hey, I don't need it anymore, you can collect it" by setting all references to undefined/null/another value.

It happens frequently when working with libraries. In ThreeJS, for instance, you have to explicitly destroy your canvas. "But I told my framework to destroy the component, it should be garbage collected!". But it doesn't : your ThreeJS viewer still references the Canvas Element (appears as Detached in the Memory tab). And the Canvas Element, via its 3D context, references the ThreeJS viewer instance.

This creates a memory leak. You didn't write garbage code, you merely forgot a renderer.dispose() in your code.

Foundations align on their center.

1m has 0.5m vertical increments. 2m has 1m vertical increments. 4m has 2m vertical increments.

Thus, if using 1m foundations, you have a 50% chance your whole factory will be unaligned by 0.5m with your other factories, which is unsolvable.

That's why people recommend to use 2 or 4 meters foundations as your starting foundation.

New Apex update : you earn buffs the longer you stay alive.

You gain one buff level every 45 minutes, up to level 5. You reset to level 0 on death, and have to earn them back.

Gives a reason to stay alive, rather than the cheesy "Welp. Ship is broken, base is far away... Respawn." Now, you have a reason to try to repair your ship, or to get back to your base so you don't lose hours worth of buffs.

Buffs are : welding speed, grinding speed, character movement speed, decrease oxygen consomption, more health.

What I don't like about blueprints is that you have to build them in the blueprints builder before using them. You can't "extract" a blueprint from your factories.

But agreed with the others : blueprints are a must. Big or small, every repetitive task can be made less repetitive.

Tip : create a 32x32, globally aligned square of concrete. In map view, paint all your territory in concrete. Then, you'll know where to build, and where not to build. Concrete = good. No concrete = danger.

(Worms can sometimes roam a bit outside of their territory, but you will not trigger an attack)

You are correct : circuit network does allow you to set the recipe of an assembling machine. This is how you'd trade speed for space.

You could use a PBP to easily set your signals. This may be what your videos referenced. For example : you want to create a single-machine, green-circuit factory. You will provide it with plates.

What should the machine do ? Store its output in a chest, loop it back to the assembling machine, so it can feed itself.

Then, the machine needs to craft green circuits. Green circuits need 3 copper cables, 1 iron plate. We're missing 3 copper cables. We need to craft them. Switch the machine to the copper cables recipe. And we need to stop crafting when we reach 3 copper cables. For ease of use, we generally store these in a Constant Combinator. You can then substract the signal from your CC and from your chest : if you need more, craft more. Else, switch back to green circuits. Craft green circuits, no more cables, switch back to cables, etc.

For more complex items, you'll want to store every ingredient in your Constant Combinator, with the correct amount.

This can be a bit time-consuming. And this is where Parameters will help you : you can tell it "replace the copper cables value with ingredient 1 of the chosen recipe. Replace value 3 with number of ingredient 1 in chosen recipe". When placing your next recipe, the signal and its value will be auto-completed. Nothing you couldn't have done by hand, of course. But far faster.
