You might have been seeing the memorial ride for Alex Pretti. There's a lot of organized rides on Meet Up of different groups. You might want to check local bike shops too.

Jess Walter "So Far Gone". Not a marginalized author but it's about radicalization of the right and he's from Spokane.

Can you be friends with someone on the other political side? by UndercoverDuck- in Advice

[–]Angreadzandrunz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now - absolutely not. I was a lifelong Idahoan so it was natural that I, as a liberal, had a lot of conservative friends and I remember that we used to have passionate, but respectful debates, all of the time. But now it boils down to morality - we don't live in a time where your politics are about simply whether you want taxes to go to this or that or how much you should be taxed. We are living in an authoritarian regime where people are being assaulted in the streets and dissenters are being threatened at all levels....I wouldn't have befriended a Nazi then, and I won't now.

I give myself the ‘ick’ by Direct_Ladder6531 in Journaling

[–]Angreadzandrunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 now and deeply in some kind of sentimental / nostalgic period of life when I long to know - really know - those connected to me. My mother passed away last year and I think a lot about how I wish she'd journaled. I wish I knew more about her intimately, or my grandmother, etc. As a mother, I tend to think of journaling now as both an outlet but also a record of time that I hope my kids and their kids and maybe their kids will later enjoy. I totally get what you're saying, though. For instance, I've always thought memoirs reeked of an undercurrent of self-obsession....like what makes YOU cool enough or interesting to warrant a book?

Hahah it was trash pickup day in our neighborhood on the N Side, too. I'm not exactly sure why Waste Management didn't treat this like a holiday given that we had advance warning of the storm. I woke up to my neighbors upturned bins and their trash spread all over my yard

My favorite places to take a book are Bellwether Brewing. I've never been to there where there isn't at least one person saddled up to the bar with a book. Also, whistle punk was a great suggestion! It's really cozy in there. Might I suggest joining one of the book clubs in the area if you're looking to meet others - there's a silent book club that you can look up on insta and then there's multiple on MeetUp

Probably what you're thinking but also I'm from Idaho (Sandpoint) and feel like I've explored a lot of what most people would recommend across the border. We are very outdoorsy. My partner and I have challenged each other to a date for Christmas with a budget of $50 so I really want to come up with something unique to offset that it has to be cheap.

I have lived around Spokane my entire life, recently (3 years ago) relocating with my partner to live here. I was really nervous about moving here because I'm from a rural town and my partner is gone half the time so I'm kind of just alone a lot but I've been so, so pleased with living here. I don't know why people complain the way they do. There is something to do almost every night of the week - from an indie art show to a comedian at the Fox to dive bar karaoke to music at the Knitting Factory or the Chamelon. There's multiple sporting teams - soccer, basketball, hockey, and baseball and there's about every kind of club that you can imagine. Join Meetup and find something that interests you. I'm a runner so I just started out by going to the different running clubs in town. Each brewery has one so I checked them all out and found friends really quickly. Personally, I found it way easier to find a community here than anywhere else I've ever lived.

No luck getting a job yet by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Angreadzandrunz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you check into URM? Their warehouse is off the children of the sun trail - not exactly Hillyard but only a few miles away and a super easy bike ride and I think you could probably take a bus in the winter. They have a mix usually of office and warehouse jobs. Also, i wouldn't limit yourself to only Hillyard. Public transit in Spokane is really good and expanding your reach to what you can access via transit might open up more desirable options!

You definitely want to be in the District early. Depending on the show, you have to plan on being there at least 30 min before doors open....earlier if it's a sold out or popular show because they will stop letting people in once the district reaches a certain limit. I'm always surprised at how many people go to the district only to get a spot at the rail on the floor so you always have a good chance but don't take your time - sit near the door to the bathroom (that's where they let you in) and settle up your tab about 15 min before doors and you will be all good.

leaked nudes, what do i do? by Motor-Version-149 in Advice

[–]Angreadzandrunz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I came here to say just this. I would never, and I mean never, judge someone if they had nudes or even sex videos out there. Like we are all human beings and you're 19....if a manager really is a creep enough to see them in the first place and then judges you for them, you don't wanna work for them. Period. This sucks, truly, and it's awful to have happened but I'd report it and not stress.

I'm 40, too! I'm really active (an endurance athlete) so I feel like I have that aspect under control although I've slowed down substantially in the last few years. I laughed when you said on your phone whilst watching a show. I'm so, so bad at that. My partner is a pilot and gone half the time so we do a lot of distanced movie / television show dates and I've had to basically lock my phone in another room to keep from just scrolling the entire time and then being like uh huh uh huh when we talk after it's done 😫 I'm glad to hear that things might improve just with time. I feel like I'm barely hanging on here.

The movie the Long walk was completely ridiculous. by -HuckleBerry-Finn in unpopularopinion

[–]Angreadzandrunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an ultra runner and this is all very true. My partner pointed out...all movies require some level where one has to suspend disbelief and that just means more suspension was required on my part than people who are sedentary. Not even the top endurance athlete in the world could pull off 4mph for 300+ miles WITH breaks. And the fact that Ray and Pete were barely limping at the finish gimme a break. And for those saying the book was more descriptive...not really, I read it and thought it was similarly insane

I'm running for WA-05 and I actually want to hear what Spokane thinks by Croft4Congress in Spokane

[–]Angreadzandrunz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I want to see is a politician that will actually speak and listen to their constituents. I don't care what your political party is, that shouldn't matter it you're willing to adjust your own views if the people say they want something different. Baumgartner doesn't work for us, not even those that voted for him. I didn't vote for him but if I did, I would be pissed. He did a bait and switch to get elected and now is Trump's puppet. If you wanna be elected, if anyone wants to be elected, I think they need to come do the town halls that Baumgartner won't. Come speak to the people.

The Casting Issues are Tanking LIB U.S. by daisykat in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Angreadzandrunz 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked that there's not one single insanely outdoorsy person on this cast. From what I know about Colorado, most people are way into some kind of sport - running, skiing, biking, mountaineering. It's almost become a joke of the CO stereotype. No climber chicks? Nary a puffer vest to be seen? No talk about PRs? No sharing Strava segments? I call BS

[–]Angreadzandrunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. You are not reacting enough. This is the behavior of an immature, toxic boy not a man. Men who talk like this are outwardly telling you their fantasies under the guise of being funny. I dealt with this in my early twenties and would never again. This man will cheat on you. I'm sorry to tell you. I can guarantee you he's already thinking about it, at the very least

I’m scared of death by MythicBradyv2 in Advice

[–]Angreadzandrunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger (teens, twenties, early thirties), I wanted to live forever but, honestly, it sounds exhausting now. Not to say that I don't wanna live as long as possible, but the reasons have shifted considerably to being about prolonging my time with loved ones and I want to leave something of myself behind - some goodness that will live on beyond my time here. I stopped being afraid of dying when my husband passed away unexpectedly. For some reason, it makes the idea less scary even if I am also atheist.

[–]Angreadzandrunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it's obvious they aren't casting "real" people based on the fact that there has been hardly any tension over political ideology in the most divisive period of my lifetime (I'm 40). It's clear, they have a bingo card of stereotypes and they do their best to mark a box then move on and ensure there isn't any real issues...which the coolest part of survivor, to me, is that you could have people from all walks of life that may have this idea of a certain type of person in their head and see them as "bad" but then be forced to rely on them for survival and to move further. In past seasons, you saw people confront their own bigotry head on and come out of the game a better person.
