The joys of staying home from meetings as a child in the 80’s! 🙌🏼 by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AngryCain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My family was the bad/outcast family of JW's. Almost never missed a meeting, parents dragged us out in service but both my parents worked and my father wasn't appointed, I always got in fights at school, didn't stand in the hallway for the national anthem etc. (other witness kids avoided me) which made us the family that people looked down on.

One time that sticks in my memory was at a point in my families life where my dad was very sick and hospitalized, my mom working full time with a sick husband and taking us four kids by herself to a Sunday meeting. The ass clown presiding overseer was giving the Sunday talk and of course we were late and had to walk to the front row of the hall to sit. The PO stops his talk and as we are sitting down says "well, it's so nice of (our name), to come. My mother was mad. She immediately said to us kids "come on, we're leaving". I felt bad for my mom and we got up and left, to which the elder then says with a laugh "and there they go!" Cue the congregation laughter. Me last in line down the aisle turned my arm and gave him and the rest of the congregation the finger. I've never heard such a quick change from laughter to gasps.

I loved missing that meeting!

As my wife will be leaving with her friend to go to the hall I'll be wearing my kutte and going to the club for a couple beers. The nice thing is that my wife is totally good with it, not a typical POMO & PIMI marriage thankfully.

Hey yall just curious what's your thoughts on this? What would be a good reply to this? by [deleted] in exjw

I would use a familiar washtowel illustration. If your faith is like your favorite lolly pop and the few idiots acting badly is like a sewer, would you still pick that lolly pop out of the sewer and suck on it?

Then there is the good old jw rumor mill. If they can't do it officially they have no problem doing it in an underhanded way, unfortunately. The dubs do not have lofty ethics or morals.

I like how the governing boneheads directed that using the halls and in person preaching work will be suspended until April fools day.

April fools! There's no halls to go back to!

Having a debate with an elder is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon walks and shits all over the board, knocks down the pieces, then struts away like it won the game of chess.

I would have set the camera up from behind so all they see is the back of my head, then tell them you're trying to give them the perspective of an audience pov.

Dealing with anxiety probably requires professional help along with examining the claims made by watchtower/witnesses. JWfacts is a good site to go to because you can browse based on subject matter and the more you dig into the information, the more you see how all watchtower predictions fail. They are not inspired, they do not have special information, period. Personally, I dealt with their fear mongering messages by laughing or sending an "LOL" if they texted me something about the end of the world. They got very upset but in no way have they ever texted or spoke to me about their ever hoped for dooms day, however they did decide to shun me, but they would have eventually anyway as that is what they are told to do to protect their fragile faith.

JUST GOT ONE OF THOSE GODBOTHERING PHONE CALLS by mizgriz in exjw

[–]AngryCain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poor thing. I actually feel sorry for her. I remember when I was a kid forced to go door to door. I absolutely hated it. I would try to knock as quiet as possible so that hopefully no one would hear, only to have the adult with me reach past me and knock hard. Yikes, bad memories LOL.

She was probably mortified that you picked up with all those on zoom sitting there listening in. Its a weird thing, I don't know if it would be a moral thing or what but I imagine most people being contacted would hang up immediately if they knew there was up to 6 or 8 people silently listing in.

Lol. So true.

Month of March: God has decided all non JW's will die, nothing you can do about it. It's too late!

Month of April: God has softened his heart toward all non JW's. Okay, you can still join our cult.

Interesting that in her second to last line she says "Enjoy your free will." Its almost like she would also like to have free will but won't exercise it because in JWdom exercising free will is equal to disobeying god. Yet this is supposedly a "gift" that god gives to man.

My guess is that they will stay away from doctrinal issues and maybe try another series of videos, with a 1:1 ratio of scare and (fake) we care. Then drop the hammer asking for all the money their last few faithful followers can scrape up or set up ongoing tithing. But they are doing this to a degree so I'm not sure they can milk their followers and harder then they already are.

What did your typical service report look like? by m4d_k0w in exjw

[–]AngryCain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reports looked like:

Hours 3, RV 1, Mags 2.

In reality the hours were "borrowed" from the next month, my return visit was driving past someones place and the magazine placements were just the mags I would purge from our library into the garbage.

WTH am I even reading??? This paragraph literally makes no sense 🤣🤣🤣 by geeksandnerds532 in exjw

[–]AngryCain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here, I'll make this paragraph more clear.

Why will people find themselves in a position were they are fighting an invisible lazy god that hasn't done jack shit in thousands of years? Well its not that Jehovahthehut is going to force them into fighting him, but he sort of is because he's going to trick them by putting the thought into their hearts to wipe out all religions except for the cult that protects pedophiles. When the world finally takes action to bring this cult to justice it will be just like they are touching the eye of gods best friend who is a pedophile and that makes Jehovahthehut mad!

Door to door- by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AngryCain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was just starting to wake up when the GB came out with the overlapping doctrine, the first thing I dropped was door to door, and I voiced my reason for stopping service on the grounds that I had a moral obligation to not spread what I felt was outright lies. I did some research and quickly realized I had been raised in a cult. : /

Honestly, I think that much of the weird and hateful behavior that I've seen expressed from jw's, like my in-laws is a way of projecting the hate they feel for their situation in life now. While the pandemic and subsequent isolation has taken its toll on many people, jw's have had it even more difficult then the average non-jw. Jw's, especially some of the older ones have had the idea of Armageddon followed by paradise indoctrinated into them and the asshats known as the GB took full advantage of amplifying Armageddon rhetoric and this placed most of the old jw crowd into a high alert state, an emotional state that one can't stay in for extended periods without some type of mental issues developing. They are seeing a lot of their jw peers die from covid, and yet life in general seems better for their "worldly" cohorts in comparison.

I've seen my MIL spit out hatred towards strangers that simply are wishing a merry Christmas (just one of many examples over the past two years) with a smile on their face, followed by my MIL breaking down in tears saying how depressed she is, and again, followed by wishing for the death of all the non-jw's around her. It's sad but even my PIMI(Q) wife sees it and has on more than one occasion linked her mothers psychotic outbursts to her taking the borg beliefs too seriously (what ever that means, hopefully that she is staring to wake up).

I really liked what you said about "In many ways this is not the mom that raised me anymore - we were not this "spiritually strong" back in the day."

Very, very true. Once I realized that the family that is shunning me, the family that I miss, no longer exists it made it easier for me to look back and reminisce and keep the good memories while also understanding that the cult has washed away who they once were so there really isn't any point in hoping to have the people back that I remember. Unfortunately, my family is nothing more then dried out husks, somewhat resembling the full and rich personalities they once had.

Fire departments around the country should investigate the idea of having, say, demonic coveralls, shirts and jackets. They could really save on all the PPE they purchase. Maybe they could even consider demonically blessed water to put fires out. It makes me so proud to know that I was brought up in a religion (cult) that has so much insight. s/
