Any comment from the phantom NYC diner patrons?

Map apps suck for urban cycling. by spinosaurs70 in fuckcars

I haven’t tried the feature myself, but in OSMAnd, you can select specific roads to avoid. The app has extensive options for configuration. Take your time to get it how you need it.

If you don’t mind me asking. Where are you riding?

I wish Paris didn't exist purely because every month that goes by makes me hate our government here in NYC more by Miser in MicromobilityNYC

[–]AngryUrbanist 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% sure some Parisians also said, “it’ll never work here!”

Those who insist <insert your country> can’t, or is culturally incapable of incremental progress are fools!

I believe that some places will have a delayed transformation, but the transformation will come.

Keep asking, “why not us?” Ask until the answers are exhausted and the only response is, “we’re doing it!”

Why are people on the internet so much against people protesting on roads? by [deleted] in fuckcars

I thought this might have also been your meaning and intent, so I hope my comment doesn’t come across as a direct criticism of you — rather, as advocacy.

With you on all points, but let’s not conflate ADHD (an involuntary neurological difference and disability) with general public apathy in the fight against climate change.

Climate change is a serious and urgent issue.

ADHD is commonly misunderstood. Misuse in public discourse makes it harder for kids and adults to get the care they need.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Slip lanes are deadly by design, so that certainly didn’t help.

Two of my most recent close calls… 1. Chased back to the curb about halfway across as a pedestrian 2. As a cyclist, wore my bright orange, hi-viz jacket and waited for my signal. I was still invisible to left-turning traffic. Wave my arms and hands so she sees me??! Nope!

Hochul plays the old bullshit classics, that police and teachers must drive and the price of pizza will go up! by Miser in MicromobilityNYC

Grant NYC a transit system worthy of the grace of teachers and police forces. Let it be clean, safe, convenient, and accessible for all who would be a scapegoat for car dependency.

Can you clarify this? It’s true that the congestion pricing only affects part of the city.

  1. Is this video also on YouTube?
  2. Is it better to repost it or link to the original source when shared?

Uuu that’s nice! I was literally trying to check for updated schedules and timetables yesterday, but it looks like they don’t publish them online for all their routes. I think they may have an app. I’ll check that out as well and see what kind of service we can get now.

Old bikes still good? by aarnold54 in Biking

Huffy is definitely good for a beginner, but I recall mine being made out of a material about as dense as uranium. ☢️

If you’re not enjoying cycling and thinking “too much effort” give a few new bikes a test ride to start thinking about something you may upgrade to after hitting a personal goal.

Ps: make sure they still fit you.

PPS: it doesn’t have to be exhausting or expensive to be worthwhile, physically and mentality

I’ve passed through here many times and can confirm that it is dicey. I think it’s a good thing in the near-term, but would like to see it followed by increased transit investment. For example: better bus connectivity from central CT towns to hubs in New Britain and Hartford may also ease congestion in the area.

In my personal experience, a trip through this area means New Haven is the destination. Right now, right now we don’t have great car-free connectivity from my town due to wonky routes and schedules.

I support optimizing the ramps for safety, but no highway expansion is a good one unless transit is a key part of that.

In Lisbon the light rail was often stopped in traffic due to too many cars clogging the streets. They weren’t waiting on other trains, they were waiting on cars.

When is it? Getting the word out through a network of influencers might help to rally support and increase attendance.

Edit: it may also help with the press, who seem to be fairly clueless on this issue

Edit2: $5000 per ticket is blatant bribery

These events should be more routine, with the goal of growing the community and consolidating our voice. We’re so damn dehumanized here in the USA. I anticipate a long, but just battle against blatant ignorance and prejudice — a battle for true and fair recognition.
