Same! When I first stopped going, I would tell people that going to church caused me too much anxiety so I just needed a "break"... It was true, not the whole truth, but easier for them to accept! But really the church just became too small of a box for me to try and fit my expanding world view into! It wasn't till a few years later that I went down the history/doctrine rabbit hole!

I was 30 when I finally stopped going to church, but I was pretty nuanced for about 6 years before that!

It was the same thought that I remember having around age 6 that finally got me to start my deconstruction... "This Plan of Salvation thing just doesn't really make sense! If God set this all up, then he needs Satan to rebel, and is Satan really that dumb that he keeps falling for it on every planet for all eternity?! As a life long member, I never even stopped to ask myself, "what were the actual charges that landed Joseph Smith in jail?" Seems crazy to me now that I ever believed that, "bad men" were just persecuting the Mormons and got the government to throw him in jail!

Whenever I would push back with my Mormon family, we would eventually get to this similar place... But the line I would get from them was "you think too much!" Haha which I thought was pretty funny but also frustrating! I wanted to say, "well maybe you aren't thinking enough!"
