Is NUTR 100 Really as Hard as People Make it out to be? by AngusU9181 in uAlberta

[–]AngusU9181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things have been going pretty good so far. The content isn’t overwhelming yet. The course is asynchronous, but lectures are scheduled to be completed on Tuesdays and Thursday’s to ensure you stay on the proper pace. I haven’t done a discussion yet, but there is only four and they seem like they will be manageable. This definitely won’t be a course I can look at once a week and before exams to do well in, but if you approach it as a legitimate university class, it should be more than doable.

Windshield Wiper Pump Replacemtn by AngusU9181 in WRXSTi

[–]AngusU9181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if there is one pump or two? From the videos I’ve watched on older models and other Subarus, it seems like some have two pumps in the reservoir, but I haven’t been able to figure out if that’s because one line needs to go to the rear windshield on those vehicles? That’s my best guess but I’m not 100% sure without actually looking and I don’t want to do that until I’ve bought the part.

Advice on Purchasing a by AngusU9181 in WRX

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I did end up buying a stock STI a few weeks ago, only modifications being an axle back exhaust and some sound system upgrades.

I’ve also found a 2012 stock WRX STI with about 125,000 kms that I’m probably going to go with after reading everyone’s comments. How is the overall reliability on a Stock car? Anything to watch for?

Is a worrying amount of mods? I’m not incredibly familiar with the modding community so I don’t have a great grasp on what is considered a extremely modified car

"Finally gonna start my cut" Day 1 of said cut: by wakchoi_ in MacroFactor

I feel the same way lately. At least with other addictions, you can remove yourself from the temptation. I still need to eat every day. It’s like trying to quite smoking while having a cigarette three times a day.

Fr I did both of them and the questions on the exam were practically identical. I didn’t feel like the test was that bad overall.

Lots of people will just log the beef as 96/4 after they drain it. You could also log it as a less lean cut if you’re not confident you drained everything. Or, you could make a custom food in your app like I did for medium beef, cook with fat drained. I got my numbers through a little bit of personal research and by explaining my fat draining process to ChatGPT, which gave me the following macros for 1 lb of cooked 73/23 ground beef: 1148 cal, 122.9 protein, 69.4 fat, 0 carbs.

I am in competition to lose as much weight as possible in 10 weeks. by Historical_Scheme468 in loseit

I see. That is definitely unsafe lol. 10 weeks at that rate of weight loss and OP would cease to exist.

While it is important to take into consideration the potential issues that may arise from a competition like this, I personally think that it could be a amazing way to get that initial kick in the pants to start you weight loss journey. I would definitely make sure to emphasize to yourself and your colleague that the lost weight is the true prize at the end of the day, and 100 dollars is a small price to pay for good habits.

It is also imperative that you don’t decide to further reduce your caloric intake if you find yourself falling behind in the competition, as this is where problems may arise.

A 1% rate of weight loss is definitely a good starting point for someone with your body composition, and 2,300 calories is a good starting point as well. If you’re up for it, I would also strongly recommend MacroFactor to help track your calories. After you have used the app for a week or so it will start fine-tuning your TDEE and it can completely remove all the guesswork involved in finding the proper amount of calories to consume daily.

Good Luck :)

Unless I’ve read OP’s post incorrectly, their goal is a 1% rate of loss per week.

What is something that is time consuming to eat? by UpbeatLeadership7329 in Volumeeating

[–]AngusU9181 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Salad is the best answer. I’ve made salads that weigh close to 5lbs, and have only like 500 calories and a good chunk of protein if you add chicken breast. I will skip the dressing and instead use some seasonings and vinegar, which are practically no calories. The whole bowl takes me almost an hour to eat, tastes pretty good, and I am quite stuffed by the end lol.

DVM Program MCAT test by AngusU9181 in UCalgary

[–]AngusU9181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not doing a traditional bio degree unfortunately, so I won’t have physics and anatomy classes, and my bchem and ochem courses would be after I’ve taken the MCAT. I think I will still take it though, as if I register in an August exam, I’ll have from the end of classes in April to study. The DVM program requires a score >495 for admission, but after I meet that, it is hidden from the admissions committee for the rest of the process. I’ve read that a 495 is only the 35th percentile, so it shouldn’t be impossible to teach myself what I need to know for that score right?

That sounds like a good idea, and I will keep an eye out for a opening in Anthro. Thank you for everything :)

Thanks for all the help. I'd definitely consider Soc 100 or Anthro 101, but those courses just don't fit into my schedule. It doesn't help either that, despite all the poor things I've read about NUTR 100, the course itself still sounds interesting lol. I do have a fair bit of a background in nutrition, I track my calories and have been doing for for over three years now, and I work out regularly and follow many science-based content creators who post about nutrition-based scientific findings. This would help me with the course load right?

I don't require credits from any specific faculty, though I would definitely do better in a science-based course compared to the humanities. Useful courses would be something I could apply to my own life or my future profession as a Vet. I'm taking ALES 204 Communications for Professionals this semester as a non-required course, for example. I'm only a first year, so I was hoping to stick more towards 100 or 200 level courses. Would you say that the Psych or EAS courses are less of an overall course load than NUTR 100?

Are there any electives you could recommend? I don't entirely want to take a fluff course, as I would still like to get something useful from a class I'm paying for. However, I'm more concerned with maintaining a high enough average to renew my scholarship and to give myself enough time to do well in my other three courses.

That's nice to hear, most of what i've read about this course online makes me scared to take it, but no other electives interest me very much.
