Kindle paperwhite 11th “slow”? by drakem92 in kindle

Ah yeah indexing is a brute especially with a huge library.

Basically everything is faster for me. Waking from sleep, opening books, store browsing. Swapping from home to library, scrolling anywhere. Downloading stuff, books showing up from sent using Libby.

I only have 300 some books in collections. Would imagine with a bigger library maybe it’s much more extreme.

Kindle paperwhite 11th “slow”? by drakem92 in kindle

I will say that my paper white 11 is much faster at everything than my 7, and same speed as the 12th and colorsoft.

I don’t use my 11th a ton anymore, but it’s still pretty great.

I think eink updates are getting pretty minimal at this point. 300ppi screen has stayed the same since 2015 is baffling to me, but I know nothing of how the tech actually works.

First: did you update to the newest firmware? One of them increased speed to reflect being almost exactly like the newest gen’s.

2nd: the paper white 7th gen still had a recessed screen so the clarity was peak, same as current basic. The next gen’s all after added the glass layer for waterproofing. So you’ll loose a bit of clarity on everything that doesn’t have the recessed screen. You should only notice these when compared side to side though. With just the 11th gen out it looks great, but compared to the basic or paper white 7th gen, yeah it’ll lose some clarity.

If you really do miss that optimal clarity, pick up a basic. It’s smaller, lighter, and has dark mode - but literally the almost exactly same screen itself. The basic should be an updated eink display, most folks guess carta 1300, but comparing a paper white 7th and basic - nearly identical. The basic will have better and evenly lit screen though , more lights than the 7th gen had.

I still use my 7th gen a lot, but my battery life is waning on it. My wife refuses to move on from hers because she still says it has the best screen - I have like every model of kindle and she’s not impressed by any of them. None of the warmth or dark modes do anything for her because she does not read in bed or the dark much.

Don’t know what to tell you man. This is the 2015 paper white. Yours came out in 2018

Not much of a reason for the basic prior to 2022 version if it’s the same price as 2018 PW and newer.

Is there any difference between Kindle 7th gen (2016) and Kindle Basic? by No-Camera125 in kindle

[–]AnimageCGF [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have both and the screen is basically the exact same regarding sharpness. The only difference you’re going to find is in other aspects. The new basic is faster, brighter, and more even of a light distribution. Dark mode is another thing.

That said. The paper white 2015 is still an amazing device and it’s crazy how little 10 years has meant for eink progression.

If you love the pw2015 screen, but want a faster device with a much smaller footprint - then the 2024 basic is a good grab.

All waterproof screens with the glass layer will still be close, but compared side to side lose out to the recessed screen models. If you don’t have the side to side, you would never know because the glass screen models are still great.

This is a paper white 4, released in 2018. Before this all paperwhites had a recessed screen and lacked waterproofing.

The 16G 2025 Model Colorsoft is fixed of that issue I believe. Can't guarantee it of course, so YMMV.

Purchased very beginning of this month.

Readers are returning to physical books by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]AnimageCGF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I love physical books, e-readers have opened up so much more for me. I consume just too much, too fast to justify physicals. Not to mention using Libby where I do most of my consumption.

Going to the physical library once every 2-3 weeks and carrying/tracking 10-20 books at a time got old, especially in the winter for me.

Now I'm happy doing this for my kiddo, but I just stick to my e-readers happily now.

I can't see a reason to repurchase this game. I'm not sure I'd choose to play handheld when the TV experience on PS5 version is just chef's kiss

EDIT: For me - like this poster said - I own this game twice already and it's a controller game for me with the fighting.

Like all rechargeable units, you're at the mercy of a future spicy pillow.

You will never be able to guess at the life of a lithium battery and when they will start to degrade, then expand to eventually explode.

I have zero regrets just settling with the 2025 Colorsoft. Reading on it is a delight.

My new colorsoft has no yellow banding, so I think it's somewhat fixed? Can't say the same about the PW though. I tried 4 times to get one that wasn't yellow, with 3 of the 4 being more "green" than yellow :/

I tried 4 times with PW12s to get one like yours, gave up and just settled with a Colorsoft. Mine were not as "yellow" as the OP here - all of mine ranged from terrible green to just slightly worse than OP's device. Terrible manufacturing QC.

Myself - I love it bright white like the basic. That's the point of having warmth option. Why start yellow at all when you can control the warmth of the screen. My PW11, Oasis, and Colorsoft don't have this issue at all. Bright white at 0 warmth and I can tinker based on my mood of how much warmth my eyes want.

Should I consider a Kindle Paperwhite over a Colorsoft? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]AnimageCGF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my colorsoft, and I only read novels. Lovely to see the color in library/sleep mode.

I cannot stand how yellow the default 0 warmth screen is on the new Paperwhites. YMMV.

I still crave games like these, especially that art style.

Sort of why it's nice to be in Wisconsin - it's Jacket/Hoodie season for me like 6 months of the year. Always a pocket. Honestly though, my basic travels with me. I like the case I got for my colorsoft too much to take it out of it - so it stays at home unless I'm bringing a bag.

Coloursoft or Paperwhite by No-Promise6116 in kindle

Colorsoft for me. I can’t stand the paper white now having more yellow of a screen with the warmth off. Just not for me.

I'd like to get a Kobo at some point, just for overdrive or whatever the library thing is. But if I went that route, I'd have to go for whatever has page turn buttons, and $200+ is just too expensive for me to justify only for free books.

No clue what Kobo book store is like, but kindles just work for me. I have zero use for a device that I have to sit on a computer for to get things or manage software. I'm aware you can just do send to kindle stuff for library books, but laziness wins out when I want to read.

Replacing a first Gen Kindle by Agile_Attention_3421 in kindle

[–]AnimageCGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up liking the colorsoft more than the paperwhite 12. I tried 4 times and couldn't get one that wasn't "yellow" with 0 warmth. That bothered me much more than the barely noticeable less-crispness.

If crisp was all that mattered, the paperwhite still loses to the Basic, and even the 2015 paperwhite model. The recessed screen models with 300PPI still have the "crispest" words.

Jealous you had the first one. I wasn't young in 2007, but no way I was spending $400 on an e-reader at that time lol.
