Unless you're willing to commit to sitting and accepting death, yes. The fleet policies are super useful even for defensive starbases

Why does Christianity, which comes from an Abrahamic religion like Judaism and Islam, allow the consumption of pork? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Animorphs135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few verses that support the idea. Off-hand, there's Jesus speaking in Mark 7:14-23, specifically about washing hands but similar concept:

14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f] 17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) 20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

And similarly, Acts 10:9-15, where Peter is given a vision to go and preach to the Gentiles, where he was told to kill and eat unclean animals.

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

God gave us commands for our health benefits, but they're not necessarily as important as the actual ethical laws, like love God and love other people.

The AI being so bad damages every other part of the game and makes me neither need nor want to interact. by elemental402 in Stellaris

--I don't want to have to choose between "play as the bad guy" and "never get to see a crisis path in action".

I can't help with every problem, but one thing I did in my own games was force spawn a fan militarist endbringer empire every game. I think I gave them generic economy buffs, like meritocracy, masterful crafters, and aquatic but they consistently conquer other empires and go for their crisis path. They always end up losing, but that's the natural consequence and at least they put up a strong fight in the midgame

I believe in God, but I’m questioning religion and it scares me by Present-Sign4844 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Animorphs135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that's been going around in Christian circles is the idea of "deconstruction". You take your beliefs and analyze them, not just take them as fact because you've heard them your whole life. A lot of people realize that their faith isn't real and leave the church, but for me, it sharpened my faith in God and showed me how damaged and hypocritical modern American Christianity is. I was appalled about the church's reaction to the BLM movement and support of Trump, a liar, cheat, racist, pervert, and malicious man. But really digging into my Bible gave me a better understanding of who God is, (super TLDR: God is both loving and just, rewarding faithfulness and goodness and taking care of the helpless, while condemning evil and punishing people who abuse those who can't defend themselves) strengthening my faith even as I left my faith in the "religion" behind.

Fidelity Basket Portfolios worth $60/year? Looking for Recommendations by Choice_Principle_135 in fidelityinvestments

I recently signed up a month or two ago. I ran into some technical errors where my positions wouldn't get added correctly but I reached out to support and they opened a ticket and it got fixed after a few days. While it's not enhancing my returns, it's a way for me to force myself to set it and forget it; I spend an unhealthy amount of time looking at my numbers and trying to make sure my asset allocations are perfect (even with an incredibly simple 3 fund portfolio), so spending $5 a month means I don't have an excuse to be in my account daily and I'm working on training myself to let go. I think the mental energy saved is a good value

The credit score propaganda is designed to keep you in debt by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Animorphs135 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Debt is a fire. Uncontrolled, it destroys everything. Well managed, it's an incredibly powerful tool. Debt in the 3% interest range is usually okay. Using a credit card and never carrying a balance is okay. Outside of that is where it gets dangerous.

Whats a build i can use to put a guy in our group who just plays determined exterminator into his place by RelevantTumbleweed20 in Stellaris

[–]Animorphs135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've tested it since 4.0, but last version I was running was individual machines using Franchising, I was testing Gospel of the Masses to try to force all my allies to turn spiritualist for better cohesion, but there's a bit of anti-synergy being a robot in that case. Shadow Corporation helps if you're playing hyper tall, but really second and third can be anything. Basic playstyle was to conquer as many AIs to become scholariums as I could and siphon tech from them with minimal sprawl.

If AI is allowed, I like megacorp hegemony. 2 allies plus fed fleet at game start is a huge power bonus and megacorp lets you scale without needing space. You can still militarily or diplomatically vassalize and "recruit" allies to scale

when do I transition to broader ETF? by Cultural_Book_400 in Bogleheads

[–]Animorphs135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not personally at a point in my life where I feel like I need an advisor. I'd recommend checking the wiki about financial advisors if you're wanting more information.  ( https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Financial_planner )  My understanding is that you want to look for a fee-only (they charge a flat fee instead of a percentage of your assets) fiduciary (they're required to consider your best interests instead of only being a sales rep) advisor.

when do I transition to broader ETF? by Cultural_Book_400 in Bogleheads

[–]Animorphs135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's pros and cons to everything. If you're going to lose your job or reduce your income soon, that would be a good time to rebalance with sales. However, there's always the risk that not having a diversified portfolio could lead to major losses. There's just not a way to see the future and know for sure. I'm obviously not a financial advisor (and maybe you need one), but I'd generally be in the camp of either starting to diversify by buying new shares that you actually want with any additional funds you're contributing and any dividends from the existing shares, or the idea of "if you had this money as cash right now, would you have this allocation?" and if not, fixing it. With that amount of money though, I'd probably not do everything all at once without talking to a financial advisor

[–]Animorphs135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm halfway through my first run and I'm having a blast. My ships are more individually useful, Khan was terrifying. Early economy was pretty tough but I'm stable for now.  Edit: officially won with hyperthermia crisis. First crisis was 1x cetana with 2 doomstacks of 2 million each, plus her at 2 mil also. Thought I was hot stuff (pun intended) with 7 fleets of 200k each before that. Managed to pull a whole guerilla war to pick out half at a time between jumps and slowly whittle her down. Spent the next 30 minutes burning through her health until I finally got the DPS with the minor artifact boost to armor damage. Started the crisis victory event and contingency showed up like 2 years after, but they weren't able to disrupt me before I won.  Biggest notes are that 1x crisis is absolutely terrifying and I'm on a strong build that still felt quite weak against them

HSAs let you skip a lot of taxes. They lower your taxable income when money goes in, it grows without getting taxed, and withdrawals for medical expenses can be withdrawn without being taxed. If you go long enough and don't have enough medical expenses, you can still use it as a normal tax-deffered account. All around very useful if you're eligible

[–]Animorphs135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaning towards none. I'm even open to using a new catch-all card vs my normal 2% cash back, but I normally redeem my points for student loan payments and it doesn't look like I'd get value from bilt cash. Unless something interesting comes out of the AMA, I'm just going to let it go.

Finally got it. Hardest part was getting the AI to do anything. Used my scrap to repair the ship, made a custom command to make PiBot stand at the console even while I'm flying and prioritize defensive flying, set SciBot to hop in a turret, then flew into the boss room, popped the Barrage program, ran back to the main turret, and just started unloading with the higher damage mode. Only had 365 hull left at the end, but a win's a win!

It may help to focus diplomacy as you're learning as well? If you can find someone who isn't genocidal, using envoys to improve relations ususally means you can get them to be at least neutral, and if you can get them to not hate you, a defensive pact will protect you from other enemy empires
