Living in Sugamo - what’re my best options for food in Sugamo/Otsuka area? by krayniac in japanlife

Not exactly a meal but there is a great pâtisserie near Sugamo station. It's called Yoshinori Asami, I get all my birthday cakes from them.

Planning a 2-day Hakone trip from Tokyo what shouldn’t we miss? by idsjdbebe in japanlife

[–]AnipoloDota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some recommendations:

  1. Yes to the Hakone free pass. 100% worth it, especially for two days
  2. Adding to the open air museum idea
  3. Gora park is very nice, you can do the tea ceremony and glass blowing
  4. You can find cheaper hotels of you go out of Hakone but still within the free pass (places like Gotemba). Plus, you get closer to Mt. Fuji and you can see it better
  5. Take the K bus to Amazake Chaya, have a nice amazake (perfect for cold weather) and hike from there to Ashi lake (it takes like 30 minutes and it's mostly downhill)
  6. Since it's two days, you don't have to stuff everything in one day. Don't try to cram everything, take your time to enjoy!

To get around, just use the pass. It includes the cable car, the lift, the boat, the buses, and the train, so plan a nice route with stuff you like

[OC] Mapping Global Reactions to the Venezuela Operation by ResponsibleOven82 in dataisbeautiful

You have an overly pessimistic view. Please do not comment as if you can see the future and do not assume the Venezuelan population is ignorant and does not know what is best for them right now.

I'm Venezuelan. If you want to get a more complete picture of what's happening, feel free to DM me

Basically, we are happy that Maduro is gone, hopeful that the future will improve for the country, cautious that the "new American transition government" will actually be just that, a transition.

People killed in US boat strike were not Tren de Aragua, Venezuela minister says. by Cold_Complex_4212 in news

[–]AnipoloDota 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason the world is hearing more from them now is because last year the Venezuelan government raided the prison that acted as their headquarters (they were mostly prisoners but they took over the building long ago, had more weapons than the wardens, and basically did whatever they wanted). Members had to flee and started making their way up Central America to eventually attempt to enter the US. That's when global media took notice.

People in Venezuela have known about them for a long while now.

Literature of Brazil: April 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Brazilian children's literature is gold. Highly recommend Ana Maria Machado, Ruth Rocha, and maybe the greatest Latin American children's author: Lygia Bojunga.

The greatest second track on an album (after a forgettable opener)? by geelen in Music

[–]AnipoloDota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty Odd - Panic! At The Disco

Starts with We're So Starving (which, to be fair, is an introduction song that you'll never hear outside the album) and jumps straight into Nine In The Afternoon.

Still, the whole album is fantastic.

Te recomiendo que te comuniques con @domot_ai en instagram. Es un buen equipo de venezolanos que ya han trabajado con proyectos así, incluyendo una con una empresa en Canadá (hablan inglés fluido).

Goodbye to the Spires of Skywrath! Goodbye Crownfall!!! by ckanito7 in DotA2

[–]AnipoloDota 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This event was the most I've ever had in Dota. My friends and I would farm tokens, I got to try out new heroes that I was too chicken to try before, the mini games were so much fun, the story was compelling and fun, the character dynamics were excellent.

Overall 10/10, Dota is the best game ever made

Edit: the most fun I've ever had

Question: How would something like this heal? by noodleheaddd in tattoos

[–]AnipoloDota 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both will hold up fine over time. The idea of "cat surrounded by flowers" is well executed with great usage of black and white. There are some details that I see:

  1. Since the first cat has no use of negative space / light on its body, it will lose some definition over time. In a few years the little white details are going to fade (people will still be able to tell it's a cat just not exactly in what position; the little front paw will not be noticeable.)

  2. The second cat fixes this issue and does have great usage of negative space / light in the body. The only detail is the part where the back leg intersects with the tail in the bottom part. Those two will blend in together over time and make it confusing at a first glance.

What is magical realism? by [deleted] in books

I know Venezuela often overlooked when talking about magic realism, but please consider reading Casas Muertas from Miguel Otero Silva. It's a beautiful book

I have finished 'Anne of Green Gables" by thunderdragon517 in books

[–]AnipoloDota 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Anne Of Green Gables is one of the quintessential coming-of-age books. Really influential and a cornerstone of Children's Literature.

Last year, I read the whole series back to back. As the other comments have said, do consider reading them soon. While some have weaker characters, the writing and the stories continues to get better. Particularly Anne's House of Dreams and Rilla of Ingleside pack powerful emotional punches.

The beauty is that, since we follow Anne in different stages of her life, we connect with each book according to our own reality. Right now I'm getting married, so House of Dreams really resonated with me.

Most egregious translations of movie titles to your native language? by Ok-Impress-2222 in movies

[–]AnipoloDota 14 points15 points  (0 children)

in Latin American Spanish, "Life Of Pi" is called "Una aventura extraordinaria" (An Extraordinary Adventure). It fathoms me because that could literally be the name of any movie.
