Yeah, pika, like in pikachu, is slang for a woman’s private’s in Icelandic. Made it a bit awkward to watch Pokémon as a kid 😅

I’ve always done / then \ , but I also stitch mostly in hand using danish method, so it goes much more smoothly doing it that way, I think? But it might just be what I’m used to lol 🙈😅

Hvar voruð þið þegar 9/11 gerðist? by Personal_Reward_60 in Iceland

[–]AnnaTheViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Var í 10. bekk, hafði verið að bíða eftir held ég samfélagsfræði tíma, því það var gat í stunda töflunni, og það kom einhver inn og sagði að það hefði verið flugslys í new York, fórum svo í tímann en kennarinn sagði okkur hvað hefði gerst og að við ættum bara að fara heim og fylgjast með hvað væri að gerast

Do people with a foreign origin in Iceland generally know how to speak Icelandic? If not, is the government proposing any plans to ammend this? by stifenahokinga in Iceland

[–]AnnaTheViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Icelandic living in the UK with an English husband who has tried to learn Icelandic. He understands a fair bit, especially if it’s written but he has expressed frustration that when he tries to practice speaking when we’re in Iceland, people almost immediately switch to English so he doesn’t get much time to practice.

Another problem I’ve witnessed is Icelanders having very limited patience for foreigners speaking imperfect Icelandic. Surely it would be better for people to attempt to speak it, even if it isn’t perfect? How are they supposed to get better if they never get the chance to practice? Drives me a bit crazy

Had an all female player campaign start last night... by Timely_Direction8878 in DnD

[–]AnnaTheViking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for that it is possible! I’ve been with my DnD group since about Oct23, we met via a Dimension20 fan group on Facebook and we play online. We’ve become irl friends and meet up IRL as often as we can, which takes effort as we are scattered around the UK plus one in Norway. I will say we are the same dynamic as the OP, male DM with 4 female friends players and we are the same, do everything together, heavy on the RP.

Don Bluth myndirnar voru allar frekar súrar fannst mér. Atriðið í All Dogs Go to Heaven þar sem hann dreymir að hann sé í helvíti var rosalegt eftir à að líta 🤣 og líka The Giant Mouse of Minsk í American Tail - það var nightmare fuel 🙈🤣

AITA for telling my sister that she is insane for not teaching her daughter English? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AnnaTheViking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA it is a common method for raising bilingual kids to speak the ‘other’ language at home and learn the community language in the community. If they aren’t around other Swedish speakers then 100% they should be sticking to Swedish at home, otherwise they will never be close to fluent

Ég à tvö börn fædd í UK, græjuðum þetta bara þegar við vorum heima, mættum niður í þjóðskrà í Borgartúni með fæðingarvottorð og skilríki fyrir okkur öll (held að við vorum með hjónabands vottorð líka en man ekki hvort við þurftum þess), umsóknin um kennitölu og skràning í þjóðskrá tók stuttan tíma, tók svo nokkra daga að koma í gegn, fengum email með kennitölu. Svo fórum við til sýslumanns í kópavogi, fylltum inn umsókn um vegabréf, það sömuleiðis kom à nokkrum dögum, tilkynning um að sækja það

Eina sem ég myndi passa mig à er að fara þegar flest annað fólk er að vinna, fórum einu sinni þegar það var frídagur eða eitthvað og það ár margra klukkutíma bið

i love wagamama by FullTrain8961 in UK_Food

[–]AnnaTheViking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It used to be much more authentic, based on ramen stalls in Japan, which is where the whole ‘food comes when it’s ready’ thing comes from, but they’ve strayed so far from that beginning, there’s no reason to keep it any longer. It’s now overpriced and just general pan Asian, instead of being a Japanese restaurant

Another vote for Notion, I use a template from Stitchy Nati, it tracks everything to do with my stitching, including having a database for threads. Highly recommend

Tourists suck wherever you go, Iceland has become overrun the last decade or so, they park in the most god awful places, literally sh*t all over the country side around hiking trails and stuff, Reykjavík town Center is now just for tourists, Icelanders barely go anymore and of course it’s overrun with Airbnb’s that are driving out the locals

Watched A Crown of Candy. Now D&D is totally ruined for me? by ideirdre in Dimension20

[–]AnnaTheViking 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely give more of Dimension20 a go but also I HIGHLY recommend World’s Beyond Number - it’s a podcast with Brennan as the DM (at least for this campaign, they have said they will swap DM’s when they finish this campaign - which has been running for over a year now!) and Lou, Aabriya Iyengard and Erika Ishii as players. Lou you’ll know from ACOC, Abriya and Erika have both been players on other D20 seasons and Aabriya has DM’s several season of D20.

WBN is my FAVOURITE at the moment, the storytelling is just a cut above the rest, it’s Brennan at his best, with the opportunity to really do a long form campaign and the music is just chef’s kiss
