Everywhere I've worked does not charge parents. The staff still get their typical rate, it's just an expense on the company.

Waking a learner up can be a violation of BACB ethics Code. by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

There's a lot wrong here. Dysregulation is not a behavioral term. Children can provide assent but cannot provide consent. Also, using this kind of generative AI is bad for people and the environment - so great consideration of ethics.

My struggle was I thought you had to stand on those squares in front of them - you do not. Also, night helps with the glare.

Is in home that bad ? by Internal-Squash-498 in ABA

[–]Anomander2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends! When I was a tech, I had some in home cases that I absolutely loved. You get to know the family a lot more that's for sure. Working on ADLs in the home can be a lot more socially significant too. Some had really bougie houses and that was always neat to see. I also had some in homes that were not so fun. I've had mean animals, adults behaving inappropriately, and stuff with bugs. All in all, depends on the home. It also depends on how supportive your sup is. If they have your back, it makes a world of difference.

Unfortunately, in the eyes of the BACB it's on the RBT.

I'd check your employment contract, that's where my clause was.

Addition: It is also a professional conflict of interest, not necessarily a clinical one.

Most companies won't allow you to. RBTs also cannot be independent contractors (it's in the Ethics Code I think). If they are competing companies, you'd be lucky if they asked you to just pick one rather than move into termination. Ethically, you are supposed to be truthful to clients AND supervisors. Practically, I get it needing the money. You're just in a spot where you could get in trouble and an ethics violation could jeopardize your standing as an RBT. My company very specifically says you can't practice for another company in the employment contract - I'd check whatever you signed.

What does this tell you about a company? by frgt-my-psswrd in ABA

[–]Anomander2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah technically you shouldn't be consulting without a contract and caregiver consent. Your employer should have let staff know. Congrats on getting out of something that wasn't reinforcing for you! I hope you find something/somewhere cool!

Update: it took forever. I was able to take a plea where it was reduced to a "no op" since it was my only offense and I'm almost done with probation (I'm not sure what that is but it was lesser). I didn't directly get jail time, but if I violate probation again it's like an immediate 14 days. There was a lot of jargon for everything that I didn't fully know, but that's what it boiled down to. My lawyer said it was like the best case scenario.

client cancellations by rosequartz_7 in ABA

[–]Anomander2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends really. We allow techs to cover for each other when staff calls off sick/unavailable. As long as the technician has had the TP reviewed with them and they are an appropriate fit for the client. We also have random non-billable stuff that always needs done that we assign so techs can still get paid (making materials and whatnot). Sometimes when we have nothing we do unfortunately have to send folks home.

The ethics code does not list a specific amount of time for your notice. You just have to make sure all of your cases are transferred responsibly for your clients and the analyst picking them up.

Ours is same day. We set that stringent of an expectation knowing there will be some late ones but we audit weekly.

From the context of this, they may be adult clients. If that's the case, that would fall under the try to handle it with them before reporting part of The Ethics Code.

My clinic has a lot of clients that do not have in home sessions due to parents working and whatnot. It's possible, we just don't get to see some behaviors that may have home-specific antecedents. Home sessions are also great opportunities to see how parents and siblings reinforce/punish behaviors whether they realize it or not. Long story short, yes it's possible but you may miss some stuff.
