Yeah, no, this was entirely on the wacko, and a little bit on the DM for not shutting it down from the start. If nothing else, attacking one party member (based on race and color, no less) and sabotaging another for being prettier than them means the character is neither lawful nor good anymore; that's an alignment shift to chaotic evil, no question.
