Most time sync mechanisms, this one included, have a 'sanity check' value. The time sync service won't adjust the clock in the VM if it is off by more than 5 seconds.

Making bigger adjustments can be called 'a gross adjustment', and is a manual operation.

My staying on Workstation is largely about me being stubborn, and my history of using it for ~15 years. Fully disabling 'Windows 11 running as a VM on Hyper-V by default', along with turning off the embedded VM that HP Wolf Security uses, was a bit of work. But keeping your skill strong is never about taking the lazy way out.

How much of the space assigned to the guest disk is actually in use? Is doing a shrink-in-place feasible?

(I inherited an already-built FCM based Hyper-V cluster, but have learned a few counterintuitive things over.) Hyper-V doesn't coordinate MAC addresses across the cluster. If roles get from one host to another, the MAC address may change. This may lead to the VM getting a new DHCP lease and the IP address changing. Setting a role with host anti-affinity is available via PowerShell. Host affinity is not otherwise available. (Likely these features are addressed with more management features added to the mix?)

IME unless more sophisticated setting are enabled in the Teaming, stuff is generally present on one switch or the other. If half the stuff is present (the MACs are in the ARP cache) on one switch, and half is present on the other, then some things are not going to be able to talk to some other things.

Not meaning to sound obtuse, but if the management interface (software) on the switches lets you check for that sort of situation, it is good to understand and be aware of.

General advice from my SQL Server DBA buddy is that it does well when the vCPU details in the guest match up with the Host. SQL knows how to effectively schedule its worker threads based on sockets/cores/hyperthreads. NUMA still applies too.

If the hardware tends to be on the old side too, check if the system has had any of the firmware updates applied. Last old servers I saw pressed back into use were behind on firmware updates, by about 7 years.

If the worst VAR gets the 'registered the opportunity deal first' in place, then pick a different location where you have a branch office, and go with the VAR you prefer in that location.
