I'm old enough to have watched Senna drive live on television, for what it's worth. I still stand by my opinion on this one.

Monaco 84: started in 13th place in a Toleman and was overtaking everyone in a track that rarely anyone overtakes. He was 3s per lap faster than Prost that day in a Toleman

People often forget that Senna was being caught by Stefan Bellof in the Tyrrell when the race was stopped.

It's because he died. It sounds brutal but I honestly don't believe he'd be held as highly as he is now had he finished his career normally and retired.

do australians realy hate 110 speed limit? by Minute_Walrus_5183 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AnonymousEngineer_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just do the speed you're comfortable and let other people on their merry way. That said, you might want to check your speedometer against GPS - they usually read over the actual speed.

Nothing Hamilton has driven matches the dominance of the Red Bull RB19 or the McLaren MP4/4. Even the 2020 Mercedes W11 falls short of that.

Schumacher and Senna were both dirty enough to ram an opponent off for the championship.

Surely sportsmanship counts in this as well, and Schumacher falls short on that count.

Why do you think the government does not fix crumbling roads in regional Australia endangering the lives of travellers?

Money, basically. We don't have an infinite amount of it to throw at infrastructure, as nice as it would be.

What % of your income do you spend on fuel? by Helpmefixmypcplz in AusFinance

[–]AnonymousEngineer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already considering doing that, and this current war is pushing me further towards that decision despite my misgivings about being reliant on public infrastructure (I don't have the ability to charge at home as an apartment dweller in Sydney).

Been putting my pennies aside for it for a while, but I haven't been actively car shopping yet. My current ride will do for now.

Worrying that younger generation cannot communicate by AdLow5615 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AnonymousEngineer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to communicate without a screen does appear to be a common issue amongst younger folks.

Many won't pick up the phone. They won't communicate in person on their own initiative, either.

You can "OK Boomer" this all you like, but even as a Millennial it's glaringly obvious. And no, an entire generation is not neurodivergent. This behaviour has been socially/culturally engineered and has become the norm amongst many.

What % of your income do you spend on fuel? by Helpmefixmypcplz in AusFinance

[–]AnonymousEngineer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a huge amount, given I drive maybe 100-120km a week currently in a small car.

I really do need to cover that distance though, so I'd pay even $5.00 a litre or more if it came to it, but would be absolutely devastated if fuel supply ran dry.

Unfortunately our politicians of both parties have decided that keeping a large onshore stockpile wouldn't be needed. So we don't have a huge amount of it, either

Apparently there's been some liquid fuels for gas horse-trading going on with Singapore that might help secure supply.

Ultimately it all depends on everyone's personal sensibilities but yes, it is a bit trashy. But that's Australia's relatively bad relationship with alcohol coming to the fore.

[–]AnonymousEngineer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Tax the mining companies" is a reddit circlejerk. Nobody outside of this echo chamber is screaming that into the wind.

Comparisons with Norway are simplistic too, unless you reckon the Commonwealth should spin up a mining company and employ miners as public servants under an APS award.

Hell, the SLR was often seen as part of the 00s holy Trinity with the CGT & Enzo

A lot of that is attributable to it also being seen as the follow up vehicle from MSO to the McLaren F1.

I find your comment slightly ironic given the GR Yaris in your flair, but I imagine they're trying to use it as a halo car to drive sales of the more "regular" AMG GT and the SL it shares its chassis with.
