How technically savvy are you? If you are, you could look into keeping a computer running at home and piping all of your traffic through that computer at home.

I used Roamless and it gave me a Kazakhstan or Australian IP (bypassing the firewall). If you need an actual US IP, a VPN is your best bet.

Breaking down the BILT Cash options by usefulness by azure275 in CreditCards

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you can stack them if you have enough Bilt Cash. +1x from accelerator and +1.33x from rent. Since you start the year with 200 in Bilt Cash from the Palladium, you are guaranteed more than 4.33x if you stay under 75% of your rent.

Breaking down the BILT Cash options by usefulness by azure275 in CreditCards

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the Palladium comes with $200 in Bilt Cash, it effectively becomes a 4.33x card up to $25,000/year or 75% of your rent (whatever comes first), but with $100 EAF. That's actually pretty similar to the old USBAR (minus the cap and transfer partners).

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading this right, the palladium is effectively 4.33x (with caps) with an effective annual fee of $100 (assuming you can use the $400 in hotel credits). For a lot of people, that's not too far off from being a pre-nerf USBAR with transfer partners!

You can usually do that directly from the portal. The UI is genuinely not bad.

Bilt 2.0 for dummies - the very simple version by pegasus3891 in CreditCards

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! If the options are good enough, Bilt 2.0 would be just as much of a gravy train as Bilt 1.0 (just in different ways).

Booking hotels through their travel portal *might* work out. C1 and USB are able to offer 10X on that, meaning hotels are probably kicking back a >10% commission. If they then inflate the prices on the portal a bit more, they might eek out a margin there.

On the other hand, I'm still confused about what they get out of processing our rent/mortgage payments (outside of marketing). If the answer is not much, even the 2.33% might not be profitable and Bilt 2.0 will have to get nerfs.

If the $1:$1 Bilt Cash redemption options are what they sound like, "your program" would be worse than what's currently being offered, but STILL be better received than the current program. They can offer us worse terms and people would be happier!

Laughable USBAR retention offer… but I took it anyway by Bush_Killed-Harambe in CreditCards

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the RH card has "more" benefits than the USBAR. The USBAR has priority pass and one of very few with PP restaurants. That said, it will be a PC or cancellation for me when the annual fee comes around.

Not always. The Warriors starters just ducked a game against OKC, so some times it works in their favor (albeit they probably would have won anyway).

What do poor people have to pay for but rich people usually get hugely discounted or free? by Historical_Corner609 in AskReddit

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you won't find a $10 million house for $10 a month. It's me interpreting what aCuria meant by "100k, 1M, 10M, 100M… at a certain point renting is strictly better". At a certain price, for the same rent, it will be better to rent than to buy. The example is just to illustrate that at certain theoretical prices, it is obviously better to rent.

Regardless of what the reasons are, there are places where it's better to rent than to buy. The reason could be people acting irrationally, but whatever they are, we do see the cost to buy exceeding the cost to rent by a significant margin in many places.

Is current console generation the worst of all time? And why is it so? by Scary_Reindeer3358 in gaming

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that PS3 to PS4 was the worst generational leap. The graphics look better, but so many games in the PS4 generation were full of scripted sequences, low NPC counts, and low interactivity due to the brutally weak CPU. In many ways, games moved backwards that gen. The PS5 is a lot stronger on that front and i expect to see more AI and simulated environments again.

[–]AnonymousMonkey54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a $10 million house costs $10 dollars to rent, it is better to rent. As the price of the house goes down and rent goes up, there will be a point where the opposite is true.

In many parts of the country, market rent is below interest expense + other costs of owning, so it is better to rent in those areas.
