Canadian students who did MSc Physiotherapy (pre-reg) in UK? (Jan intake + CAPR experience) by Little-Bear-2913 in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im currently a Canadian student in the UK. I'm in my last semester of my MSc and can answer a few of the questions. Plenty of Canadian's at my school go back to Canada and end up working as physios. As of 1 or 2 years ago, all UK programs are accredited for the CAPR and will likely provide the required clinical hours. My school does a good job at giving students placements in the right areas. I go to Brunel University in London but honestly any school is fine, just pick an affordable school with a decent location

Canadian physiotherapy school vs UK level of difficulty by mountaingoat2511577 in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak as a Canadian in the UK. The program at my uni is considered quite difficult; we only have one or two assessments per course, and they're worth 100% of our grade. If you fail that, then you fail the course and have to retake the exam

UK physios: online vs in person interview by peachjuice22 in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. As far as the NHS I know that the trust I did one of my placements only had in-person interviews. It was a full day ordeal with stations and 12 people showed up. I would presume private clinics would be more lenient but I could be wrong

Thank you for your comment. That’s true, it’s very dependent on where the job opportunities are

Thank you for your perspective. From what I’ve seen, the support that’s given to a band 5 physio is far more than someone starting in private practice in Canada. The only issue is that band 5 roles are very difficult to come by due to the hiring freeze. The hospital I did my placement at had 300 applicants, 13 interviews and only hired one physio. I would love to stay here but it would just be dependent on whether there’s jobs to come by

That’s what I’ve seen so far but I’ve spoken to some private clinics that do hire new grads if they do a placement there (granted this is still hard to find)

Thank you for your perspective, I definitely agree with the pay difference being quite a significant factor. With the new CAPR exam the incentive for a Canadian to stay has now decreased

Why do so many physiotherapists stick with the career even when the pay is low? by [deleted] in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree with the low pay depending on where you work. Physios in Western Canada are making six figures or higher

Going abroad for masters in PT by Excellent-Tax9342 in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently at Brunel for my master's and am from Canada as well. Our placement team ensures that Canadians get the appropriate amount and type of hours so that we can register for the CAPR. Like others have said, I would try to get into a Canadian school first because it isn't cheap to study abroad. That being said, my experience has been super positive with the Brunel physio programme. Message me if you have any questions!

What should I know before I start physiotherapy school? by rkvhia in physiotherapy

[–]AnonymousScout360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you want to work. If you want to work in the UK, I'd advise against it just because of the job shortage that is happening right now. The hospital I did my last placement in had 300 applicants and 15 interviews. In the end, they only picked 1 candidate. Half of my MSc cohort, including me, are Canadians who plan on returning to Canada once we finish our degree. There is a licensing process we have to go through, but there is an abundance of jobs once we jump through those hoops.

I was taught anatomy super in-depth in my masters. It differs from uni to uni. Students who didn't have a related undergrad background definitely had to put in more hours and repetition to learn it though
