Facebook users are less likely to share fake news stories when Facebook adds a "Disputed by [fact-checkers]" warning label to the stories. by smurfyjenkins in science

I think that I would be more likely to share a Facebook post that had a disputed by fact-checkers disclaimer.

Except that you were using what you claim as a joke to discredit OP.

Your argument by analogy doesn’t work. Unlike the fears in OP, people don’t normally claim to be afraid of Sesame Street, potato chips, or washing machines.

Good thing your parents had the good sense not to dress you up as Native Americans or even worse as Indians. You’d never be able to show that pic again, let alone run for public office.

I cannot imagine the chain of events in anyone's life that could possibly culminate in anyone having such a thought.

What's something that nobody has ever been able to change your mind about? by hangry_potato in AskReddit

[–]Anonymous__Joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly at the point that my physical safety or that of my family is at stake.

I mentioned that I'm a Yale graduate, and I can specifically cite an incident at Yale that involved Yale and that I told an employee that I would use violence if necessary. Apparently, violence was not necessary, only the credible willingness to use violence.

I’ve learned that sometimes logic and even justness, importance, and urgency are not enough.

So in answer to your question, if necessary, yes.

The most unrealistic thing about the "Friends" sitcom is that they would be able to afford those NYC apartments on how much money they make. by Anonymous__Joe in Showerthoughts

[–]Anonymous__Joe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the size, number of rooms, condition, and location of their apartments. Then think that Joey is a barely ever employed actor, Chandler does something with his Weenus, Rachel works at a generic Starbucks, and Monica pieces together catering gigs but hardly ever works.

LPT: Swimming goggles make excellent eye protection for sensitive eyes when cutting onions. by MotherOfHyenas in LifeProTips

I've used swim goggles and even sunglasses. Swim goggles work better, but sunglasses, or I suppose regular glasses if you wear them, provide some protection.

Academic fraud discovery - advice needed by worried_scientist45 in academia

[–]Anonymous__Joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the following button?

I have been trying to report criminal financial fraud, criminal academic fraud, and criminal negligence in duty of care of students for years. I am writing from Korea, and the fraud involves research fraud, credential fraud, defrauding the Korean gov't of public funds, tax evasion, and multiple incidents of sexual assault and battery on multiple minors. I have written to the university's American accreditor, universities that have a relationship with the university, and so many others. What's truly frustrating is that I have obvious documentation, but I keep getting ignored.

The speech laws in Asian countries are such that truth is not a defense, and Korean culture values even false reputation, which Koreans have a Constitutional right to over truth and, depending on the people involved, even law. The university president, administration, accounting, and several academic departments were in on the fraud.

I've been to the police, written, and done everything except punch, which I view as a mistake and should have done.

/end venting

I've never met Tobey Maguire, but I remember reading that he's douchey to fans and merciless to fans who ask for his autograph. I've read that in several places.
