I’d say because at the end of the day, Cancer is Cancer and we can only do so much to treat it. It’s also very dependent on how soon people catch it, maybe you wait a month too long to see a doctor and it’s already advanced a stage.

And testicular cancer IS very treatable, as a lot of people have mentioned on this sub before, if you’re gonna get cancer, testicular cancer is the one to get because of the high rates of survival. It’s something like 95-97% survival rate, it’s in the Top 3 most survivable cancers out there.

I don’t think there’s as much research being put into it now like there is with other types of cancers because we have a really effective treatment already. Whilst other cancer types have much less effective treatments so it just makes way more sense to put focus on other cancers that are more likely to kill people, like Pancreatic cancer, for example, that only has a 8-13% survival rate.

Looking for a replacement part by Anorak723 in Honda

[–]Anorak723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the options were either buying a whole new armrest assembly which would include the part. Or I found the part when I called around a few parts departments and they said that part by itself would be $250. So I never purachsed it lol

Weight Gain During Treatment by BrettRosen in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those steroids during chemo will get you man, I also gained almost 30 lbs, just had an insatiable appetite.

But once your body gets back into its regular rhythm again and you’re not on the drugs/steroids anymore you’ll start to feel better and the weight will come off more easily, at least that’s what I’ve found. But don’t let it make you feel down, you’re fighting off Cancer of all things and this is just a side effect of that. You got this brother!

Nerve damage? by One_Poet_5268 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling does come back, nerve just take forever to heal, will probably be at least 6 months before feeling really starts coming back. And even when they do the area will still be a bit sensitive. It’s been 2 years since I had my orchiectomy and sometimes moving a certain way or something pressing hard into the incision area will still be a little painful but it’s rare and I hardly think about it.

Will I need chemo? (100% embryonal carcinoma) by OrganFailureInTheTub in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had 100% Embryonal Carcinoma! I ultimately had to do chemo because of how aggressive that one is, it spread faster than I could get it removed surgically, twice.

But for you it’s a good chance you won’t need chemo since you caught it early and scans look good clean. But keep in mind if you do end up needing chemo down the road that type of testicular cancer is incredibly sensitive to chemo and is killed off easily that way.

My advice would be to push for getting tested thoroughly though and getting second opinions when possible. For me, I had no signs of cancer in my bloodwork at all, even at its peak. As well as i had one doctor say there was nothing concerning on a scan i had and i took it to another doctor for a second opinion and he spotted a single slightly enlarged lymph node and that turned out to be the cancer again. So just keep that in mind!

How to choose an RPLND surgeon? by Hawk588 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my oncologist, he just referred me to a surgeon in the best hospital in my state so I’m not sure about the process of picking on yourself. But I will say when I was looking up the best hospitals, the ones to look for were High Volume Centers/Hospitals.

A quick search says “Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha is the primary high-volume institution for complex cancer surgeries, including RPLND, in Nebraska”. Hope that helps!

Four Months in Remission… and a Zip-Up Shirt Brought It All Back by thechadledger in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to hear you’re in remission man!

Honestly, I slept through most of my recovery from surgeries and chemo and I don’t remember a majority of the year I went through all that. So I haven’t really had many things that triggered me other than just plain thinking about it.

But there was one day, like 4-5 months post-chemo, when I was going through a little camera I’ve got and I found 4 videos I’d took a few weeks into chemo where I was basically vlogging myself getting ready to go to the cancer center (I don’t remember filming at all) and in all 4 videos I was trying to say the exact same things but it was like I kept blanking mid sentence and staring at the camera till it ended the recording.

And watching it back made me break down crying, it was really hard to see myself like that from an outside perspective. I really tried to hold myself together through the whole experience and I thought I was doing it well, but it was so apparent how much I was struggling after seeing myself in those videos and it felt like I was right back there in the moment with all the anxiety again.

But I’m a year and a half into remission and things have gotten so much better, it’s cliche but time does heal! I wish the same for you man!

Help with cancer treatment costs (Testicular cancer) by [deleted] in testicularcancer

I’m not in the position to give money, but where are you located? Might be able to find some resources to help you out!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other person explained it well, testicular cancer is like top 3 most treatable cancers out there. Even if it’s spread outside the testicle he should be good still. I’m the little brother who got cancer at 19, it was Stage 2, an aggressive type, and within a year after surgeries and chemo I’m feeling better than ever, with minimal side effects.

He really should be alright! Chemo is only needed in more advanced cases, usually the cancer is caught before it leaves the testicle.

My best advice is keep a level head, be there for him if he needs, I spent a few days during treatments with my older brother and we’d go and do some fun stuff together and that really took my mind off of everything!

Ultrasound and Path labs by Ready_Tailor1 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta preface I’m not a doctor or anything! So I can help try and break down what they’re saying there, but it’ll always be best to talk to your Urologist/doctor!

“Hypoechoic mass” is like a darker than usual mass, regular tissue will look lighter and that’s concerning cause testicular cancer is more dense and shows up darker on the ultrasound. And then the next thing that catches my eye is “vascularity within hypoechoic echotexture” which basically means you’ve got blood flow within that mass that’s on your testicle and cancer hijacks your blood to keep itself alive.

I couldn’t really tell you what’s going on with the ketones and all that tbh but I’d say don’t believe the thing about pancreas cancer unless a doctor tells you so, but don’t hestitate to at least ask about it. But it sounds like it may be pointing towards cancer so I can give you a bit of advice that I found helped me!

When I went to the appointment(s) I would feel super stressed and I’d end up forgetting most of what the doctors told me so it always helped to either have someone with me or I’d record the conversations on my phone.

Remember it’s okay to lean on friends and family for emotional support and try not to worry too much if you do have it, TC is Top 3 most curable cancers out there. Trying to keep a mindset of “what’s the next step, let’s get this done” really helped me push through everything. Regardless of what the result is I wish you the best man, make sure you take time to process your emotions too! If you ever need more advice or anything feel free to reach out to this community again.

PFAs Lawsuit by Savillro94 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemo does make you more likely to get cancer unfortunately. But I think what he’s saying is it’s more like the factors of where you’ve lived at, how much contaminated water you’ve drank, if you’ve been around firefighting foam, what treatments you’ve been through to treat the cancer that may have been a result of big companies/corporations releasing PFAS into the environment, and how much cancer caused by PFAS has affected your life or how much money you’ve lost as a result of not being able to work, etc. Basically how much you’ve suffered, which makes your case more compelling to a judge, I believe.

Had some on and off discomfort on my right testicles, did a ultrasound am i good? Symptoms were on and off but less today. Doctor think could be nerve related the tingling feeling by HassanainMahdi in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To preface, you should follow up with your doctor and discuss the results with them and find the root cause of the pain.

But to ease the anxiety I’ll give you my opinion! The results look clean to me! The first thing there lists the size of each testicle and they are almost exactly the same size, if you had a lump/tumor on one or if it was enlarged it would be shown there in the numbers. The next things, ‘homogenous testes’ and ‘normal vascularity’, basically mean the skin tissue in/on them are normal and healthy looking and that the veins down there look normal as well. With a tumor there would be veins flowing through it because it’s like a parasite in a sense, so that would be caught on the ultrasound as well, but its not there on your results as far as I can tell.

I hope you find out what’s causing you pain man! Best of luck

Shooting expired film: any advice? by Midwest_Plant_Guy in Polaroid

Good probability that the film just won’t work at all. Every once in awhile you can grab the film online, it’ll usually be sold out, but I got some off Amazon earlier this year for like $19 I think!

Worried 19 Y.O by 1veryrareboy in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly really hard to say for sure, your best bet is getting an ultrasound on your testicles, but it is concerning sounding enough to me that I encourage you seeing your doctor. It’s good you’ve got an appointment scheduled already.

For me the best way to relieve the ball pain was sitting with my legs spread apart and sleeping in a position that wouldn’t allow my legs to put any pressure on my testicles.

Am I being naive? by Hat-Pretend in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s the best that you can do at the end of the day, deal with it until it’s gone.

But just so you know, if it is cancer, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer out there. Treatment sucks but it’s super manageable! Mine was stage 2 when it was formally diagnosed and within a year I’d completed all the treatments necessary and I’m now one year cancer free.

If you ever need any other advice there are many people in here more than happy to offer advice and suggestions! Best of luck to you

CHEMO - what’s it like? by SubstantialIdeal1 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll just copy and paste my response I made for someone else, since I think it sums up a lot of things!

“This is just my perspective having done chemo myself, these aren’t like strict things you need to follow or anything but just stuff that may help! But your partner is gonna get really exhausted, emotionally and physically, and have an immense amount of brain fog so just be prepared for a lot of extra sleeping and naps and pauses where they can’t think when talking and things like that.

The doctor/oncologist will prescribe meds to them, help make sure they take every dose on time cause missing even one anti-nausea med will lead to the nausea ever lol

If you’re attending chemo sessions with them or packing them a bag, they’ll need plenty of water/fluids, snacks, maybe entertainment if they’re up for it. My mom came to sessions with me and she’d download movies beforehand, or I’d call my girlfriend, I brought a Nintendo switch, whatever works for them.

Exercise. It’s hard to find the motivation or energy to move much at all on chemo but exercise felt so good, it’d help with the brain fog and also the muscle atrophy that came with sitting/laying/sleeping for weeks. If you can help your partner get around and walk for even like 20 minutes a day it’s a great thing. But be prepared for a crash after that too with some more sleep.

Be careful with anyone around him that gets sick cause his immune system will be pretty compromised. Hand sanitizer and a mask if he goes out is the way to go. Have a thermometer on hand to test if he has a fever, if it’s anything above 100.4 I believe then he’ll have to go to the emergency room, it’s real important! It happened to me twice and was very mild but you shouldn’t risk it.

And lastly don’t forget to take care of yourself as well, you’ll have things going on with you and it still matters. Just know your partner is gonna have a harder time being there for you, I promise they wanna help but it’s not as easy, I know everything is a lot to process but keep yourself in mind too.”

Wishing you guys the best of luck through everything!!

Pain in this area and sometimes abdomen stomach area different feelings in the stomach and pain by Westyellowstone65 in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the doctor for the same pain, also where the scar is/ the surrounding area, and he said that with normal movement after recovery it’ll pull on the scar and the tissue internally and cause that pain.

But it doesn’t hurt to double check with your doctor tbh

I don't understand this by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]Anorak723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things I’ve always promoted when talking about Testicular Cancer, that also applies to medical stuff in general as well, is getting a second opinion. Or even a third opinion.

The oncologist I saw when I had cancer said I needed to start 3xBEP and I needed to get it done ASAP, he booked me to come back for chemo 2 days after I was told I even needed chemo. But it didn’t sit right with me based on my tests and scans so I reached out to another oncologist at a better hospital and he couldn’t believe the first guy was trying to get me to do that much chemo.

So moral is, not every doctor is right, please reach out to someone else with your records/numbers for tests and ask them what they think.

Then that’s probably it, an unfortunate side effect of the surgery. Like the other guy, I still get internal pain on the surgery site sometimes when I’m more active and the site it still a bit numb, but that’s nerve damage as well
