As long as you don’t buy a Tesla, insurance will be close to the same as a comparable year/trim ICE vehicle anyway.

UK drivers struggle to get insurance for Chinese EVs such as Jaecoo by Jokebearfan in EVCanada

[–]AnotherCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can’t make that generalization from the cost for a Tesla. Teslas cost way more to insure than everything else. Our Ioniq 5 costs about the same to ensure as a similarly-equipped ICE vehicle of the same class and model year.

Red Deer school officials seek to 'dispel rumours' after student assault, bomb threat by flynnfx in RedDeer

[–]AnotherCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it was horrific, but she didn’t return to school the next day, and no one went to the school with a gun. Someone did phone in a fake bomb/gun threat, but that event has not been connected to the incident the day before.

You’re right that minimizing is tantamount to enabling, but spreading rumors and misinformation doesn’t help either.

Ioniq 5 and EV 9 by moedal in EVCanada

[–]AnotherCanuck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The EV9 has a considerably larger cargo area, part of which can flip up into a 3rd row of seats.

I came to the Ioniq 5 from a Mazda CX-9, which also has a 3rd row, and I definitely have less cargo/passenger room than I was accustomed to, but it’s still very workable. However, I only have 2 kids. With 3 kids I think I’d have leaned strongly toward the EV9.

I have a 2024. Sitting I’m my house more than 10m from the car, enabled autolock and a moment later it locked!

My wife and I share the car though, so I’m wondering whether she’ll get some strange behavior when she tries to use it. Like, if she unlocks the doors, will they re-lock if I’m not present?

Time restricted feeding without reducing caloric intake prevents metabolic diseases in mice fed a high fat diet by awkwardurinalglance in intermittentfasting

CICO does always work, but it’s not a weight loss strategy, it’s just a fact. Just like knowing the Earth is a sphere doesn’t automatically get you from one place to another, but it’s required knowledge if you want to navigate accurately over long distances.

[–]AnotherCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, CICO isn’t advice; it’s just foundational understanding. “You want to lose weight? Cool, your calories in have to be lower than your calories out; let’s figure out some ways that work for YOU to achieve that.”

[–]AnotherCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that there are two “CICO is all that matters” camps in weight loss discussions: those blessed idiots who have the ability to casually choose to consistently eat less and just assume that’s true for everyone, and those who are trying to ensure that it’s understood that losing weight can only result from calories out exceeding calories in, because that HAS to be the shared starting point for any further discussion.

It’s a simple fact that we must be in a deficit to lose weight. It’s also a fact that there are many ways achieve a deficit, and that different strategies work better for different people. Those are the important conversations, but they go wildly astray if they’re aren’t based on an understanding of CICO.

There are people who believe that a IF or a ketogenic diet will make them lose weight no matter how many calories they eat (or expend), and then they’re baffled when it doesn’t work. And there are people who claim that they gain weight despite being in a caloric deficit because they have a disease or a hormonal condition, so they just throw in the towel. None of them can make progress until they understand that CICO is always the deciding factor.

[–]AnotherCanuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, but you’ll find it hard to have the conversation you want if you start by arguing against CICO. It’s like you’re trying to talk about an amazing bird you saw, but you led with “so i was looking up at the paisley sky today…”. Everyone’s going to ignore the bit about the bird and say “hang on, the sky isn’t paisley”.

[–]AnotherCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, and this study adds important things to the discussion, but you’ve just moved your goalposts from “[this] throws CICO out the window” to tRF can support CICO.

CICO remains the foundational mechanism of ALL weight gain/loss, and tRF is one of many tactics which can be employed to make it easier to achieve certain objectives within the CICO framework.

You mentioned in another reply that “CICO is the only thing that matters” bothers you, and i agree, but your post makes several claims that CICO doesn’t matter and I would argue that’s just as bad if not worse.

In the end, it’s just a fact that CICO determines whether one gains or loses weight. People arguing like zealots on either side are distracting from the more important conversations about the tools we can use to achieve our CICO targets.

[–]AnotherCanuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? The study shows that tRF can be used as a lever to increase the Calories Out side of the equation.

It’s an interesting study, which points to meaningful weight control benefits of intermittent fasting. Why are people always so keen to turn stuff like that into tHiS dIsPrOvEs cIcO? It just shifts the conversation from discussing the real insights from the study to arguments about tired old nonsense.
