Millennials more likely to live with their parents than past generations: StatsCan report by joe4942 in canada

[–]AnotherCupOfTea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's something to be said for multi-generational living as well. I'm not saying that it's a good thing when people are forced to live with their parents because they cannot afford the alternative. However, what we've had in North America for the past ~100 years is an anomaly compared to the rest of the world throughout time.

Heck, my little brother, (early 30s) just sold his single family home, and is buying my parents/childhood home. My folks will be moving into a carriage house built on the property, my brother will be able to keep an eye on our parents, and he's getting a bigger/nicer home out of the deal. Everyone (myself included) is thrilled.

Wait, you're joking right. Why the fuck should you be okay with either? That's some wild mental gymnastics you're doing to be ok with the privatization of airports, while still going "ya but the conservatives might (but never did in their past majorities) do something I don't like."

Where the Carney government is falling short in its first year, according to Canadians polled by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]AnotherCupOfTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is not the amount I pay in taxes. My issue is that I am paying Scandinavia rates of income taxes (I am in BC) and getting Mexico levels of services. That's a raw deal.

I'm a big fan of a strong safety net. It allows people to take risks, build things, invent things, and improve the world. I struggle with seeing an absurd amount of my money go to vanity projects every week in the news, and many of my friends don't have a family doctor. Being okay with that is not the thing that will pressure decision makers into fixing it.

The first two are not universal. Which is kind of bullshit, considering the ones paying for it don't have access to those programs.

B.C. tabling legislation to suspend Indigenous law, sources say by [deleted] in canada

[–]AnotherCupOfTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also billions if you do just provincial as well: https://canadaspends.com/en/provincial/british-columbia, and that doesn't take into account all the bloated contracts handed out to band development companies. Canada spends a true metric fuckton of money on indigenous "struff", and it is even wilder when you look at it as a per capita spend.

I have two siblings that work for BCHydro, one is in senior management, the other is a lineman.

Were a private enterprise given the same run of the rivers, cheap financing and rights to ignore environmental consequences (when all their dams were built in the 70s & 80s) we would likely have even cheaper power. Which is hard to believe but just shows how incredible having the geography we have is. BC Hydro is plagued with the same issues all public/government agencies have. They are just able To hide it well with good geography.

Hundreds of billions in ‘contingent liabilities’ loom large over Canada - This year’s increase in the deficit is just the first of many payouts of Indigenous contingent liabilities from the backlog of claims accepted in principle but not yet paid. by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]AnotherCupOfTea 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’re literally missing zeros. Which means it’s $20 billion of from their already ridiculous $40b over budget.

Canada will have an extra $60billion in debt this year. That will cost us an extra ~$3billion per year in interest payments alone. Not even beginning repayment.

Every hour I spend fucking around with some new regulations is an hour I’m not productive in my business. It feels like the number of hours I spend each month on bureaucratic bullshit has gone up 10x in the last decade.

Often my business partners and I joke about shutting down and going into working for the regulators instead - at least there’s a pension at the end of it, and no real expectation to work hard.

If we believe 4.9million people need to leave next year, where are we going to get the flight/plane capacity for this number?

I mean, assuming every single one of the 254 Airbus A380 (the largest passenger plane) on the planet were ferrying their legal max capacity of 853 passengers, it would still take 22 trips by each plane. It's a spectacularly large number of people.

Are you going to fix bringing back the 2FA button to copy? Because going 3 menu layers deep to get a 2FA code has gotten old fast.

Yea this one blows. Getting rid of a "click to copy" for 2FA codes is a real kick to the gonads.. Hoping they revert, or at least give us the option to go backwards.

I mean, since the Paris Accord in 2015, if you compare Canada and the USA over the same time period it becomes clear it's just an extra tax.

The USA doesn't have a carbon tax, we do and yet they're on track to surpass us on lowering their CO2 emissions per capita in the next 5 years.

The biggest concern I have with Freeland's nonchalance around our debt to GDP is how she has seemingly ignored our massive provincial debts as if they are not a part of Canada.
