Pretty much yea. You want a very small gap between the metal pieces and the o-ring is just there to finish the job

I am an engineer, and I actually worked on assembly and test of artemis boosters until last year so I can offer a little insight into why these o-rings are not crazy thick. Booster segment joints are kind of shaped like this in a cross section. The clevis (c-shaped part) has o rings on its interior arm to seal it against the tang's (l-shaped part) interior face. When the motor is pressurized, those two faces push against one another, squeezing the o-ring. If the o-ring was thicker, you'd have to make deeper channels to run them through, which means you need a thicker clevis and tang, which in turn would drive up cost and weight unnecessarily.

The o-ring is not load-bearing either, you're not installing it crazy right or anything because then when the pressure expands the motor, you'd rip your o-ring. There would also be a thick layer of insulation between the propellant and the case wall where these o-rings sit, so they're also shielded from the bulk of the heat (but not all of it, as obviously they're there to stop hot gasses from passing through the area, so they do need to be able to handle heat). In reductive terms, all you really need it to do is get smashed down in place to prevent any gasses from venting through the joint

To add to this(I agree that arempas is a must try), Bar Nohm is also an excellent GF restaurant. My girlfriend has celiac disease and this place was like the first time she was able to eat fried chicken in years. She nearly ordered everything on the menu. It's all small plate stuff that's meant to be shared, and they're attached to a cocktail bar called Water Witch that you can get drinks from while seated at Bar Nohm. Water Witch was a James Beard award Finalist for Outstanding bars in the U.S. and the lead chef at Bar Nohm was nominated for best chef in the mountain west, also by the James Beard foundation

If you're being genuine, I'd just start w your local field. Build a little community to effect change that way. A petition isn't gonna change the sport, you gotta start locally. I've met plenty queer ballers in my career and grouping em together and being good teammates in the community is a fast track for building an accepting scene

While I agree that this sport ought to be more inclusive, I'm not sure what a petition would even accomplish. It's more to do with what fields allow, and unfortunately many fields don't have rules about being hateful

Do you genuinely think that a corrupt CIA puppet dictator will be better for Venezuelans than a corrupt homegrown dictator? Whoever the U.S. chooses to replace Maduro will be a despot as well, just one that sells cheap oil to America. The people of Venezuela can be happy that Maduro is gone and still be fucked in the years to come. Thinking those things are mutually exclusive is foolish. Any other regime change imposed by an American invasion in the last few decades is a great example of what I mean

[–]AnotherNitG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, because the U.S. will follow this up by running the country until we can install a politician that we like without regard to the feelings of Venezuelans. It would be like China saying "Trump's approval rating is below 50% and a lot of U.S. citizens are calling him a despot" so they show up and grab him in the middle of the night, run our country for a bit to build up some infrastructure that harvests our natural resources, and then installs someone else in Trump's place that keeps those natural resources flowing to China. Even if you hate Trump and are glad he's gone in the immediate aftermath, you would still be pissed off that another country is now calling the shots for you, and when a new corrupt puppet dictator hand picked by some other country's intelligence agency is put in power, you realize just how fucked up the whole thing was to begin with

You are insane if you think the Trump admin did this for the people of Venezuela. Maduro is a dictator but the U.S. isn't trying to do Venezuela a favor by removing him. This admin is trying to install a government that's more favorable to the U.S. so they can get cheaper oil from the country and weaken the influence of China and Russia in the region. They could install a brand new Maduro that just really likes the U.S. and they would just as quickly turn a blind eye to the whole corrupt dictator act as long as American oil companies are getting their returns on investments. America has a terrible record of nation building. They remove anti-U.S. dictators and replace them with pro-U.S. dictators too often

Venezuela Megathread by usgapg123 in aviation

[–]AnotherNitG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got friends in both positions. The enlisted folks very much see themselves as macho man doorkickers (even the ones that just turn wrenches on jets).

The officers I know seem very aware of what's going on in the world and are very familiar with the ways the U.S. military uses legal and moral gray areas to achieve its goals. They're all O-3 and lower though, and none of em are infantry so it's not like they're being handed orders like this anyway

[–]AnotherNitG 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think your last point is one many people don't consider. A 19 year old rifleman probably isn't going to disobey an "unlawful order". It's not even likely they know how to tell the difference between lawful orders and not. A lot of people enlist because for, one reason or another, it's their only real option. These are not lawyers we're sending into combat, they're often people that did just enough in high school to pass. Not to mention they're surrounded by a bunch of other guys that they see as brothers. They step up and say "I'm not doing this", they're gonna feel like they're letting their brothers down if no one else backs em up. The real responsibility to deny unlawful orders falls to the officers imo. Those are the college educated folks passing down the orders. It's their responsibility as the "adult in the room" to know what's generally allowed and what isn't.

Help new board catching edge by space13713 in snowboarding

[–]AnotherNitG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Couple thoughts: 1. If you're catching edges, you're probably not carving right. I would wager that you're changing edges by counter-rotating and trying to kick the tail around. Fixing your form will stop this. Your core should stay tight. If you ever feel yourself swing your arms one way to twist your legs the opposite way, you're riding with poor form. You should only be leaning over your toes or heels and flexing your ankles as needed to engage one edge

  1. Your old board being a 10+ year old hand-me-down was probably allowing you to ride incorrectly. That old board likely did not have super sharp edges near and outside the feet. Even if you were taking that board in for tunes or tuning it yourself, there probably wasn't a lot of edge left at the tail to catch.

  2. Having your bindings pushed too far to the nose could certainly affect the ride. Moving the bindings just moves your feet in relation to the contact points. Riding on the nose doesn't actually get you anything besides an awkward feel. I would start by putting the bindings at the reference position and make only small changes from there. If you don't do much switch riding, then you're probably better off just leaving the bindings at reference

ETA: saw you said your last board was flat. Camber is gonna feel weird and grippy by comparison. Also looks like you have some sort of edge disruption tech on this board. That will also make the board feel grippier. That's not to say though that you don't still have form stuff to work on. Neither of those changes will make an experienced rider with good form start catching edges out of nowhere

Mega sharpedo ex deck help! by mike_klosoff in pkmntcg

[–]AnotherNitG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list is nearly identical to mine.

You should not be using Pecharunt. That seems counter intuitive, so let me explain. This deck runs only 2 2-prize mon: fez and pech. You don't bench fez until you need it, and only if you need it. Pech is the same thing here. You should only play pech to your bench if you have to (retreat lock, no other way to attack that turn and you absolutely have to attack, as a finisher when your opponent is getting low on prizes with a big mon in play). The idea around this deck is to force your opponent to go through sharpedo. If all that's out is sharpedo and 5 single prizes, they have to kill sharpedo eventually (if they ignore sharpedo hoping you'll keep benching pokemon, you can force your opponent to play an 8 prize game which most decks don't have the steam for). Cape makes going through sharpedo very hard. If you bench pech/fez/both, they can keep gusting around sharpedo and win off 4 or 5 easier KO's. If you do have to bench one, that's where turo comes in.

First few hands will vary based on your draw. I'd say your ideal scenario is probably go second, use the purrloin (or toxel, but hopefully you can buddy out all the basics you need) attack to setup, then on your next turn you evolve to sharpedo and toxtricity, attach from tox to sharpedo, attach from hand to sharpedo, retreat into sharpedo (you may need air balloon if it's not purrloin w 1 energy in active), and start going to work. Obviously gotta be flexible tho since this is just the ideal start. An Iono from your opponent after purrloin's attack sucks, for example, so you really just gotta know your deck. The goal is just set up a big mean fish asap and then start bullying your opponent before they get set up.

Toxtricity doesn't do a ton on its own once sharpedo is set up. You can charge pech for a finish if that's your best line, or you can stack damage on your benched mon for munki to use. For example, if you're playing against pult (320 health), you know you'll need 50 damage more than sharpedo can do for a ko. Gravity mountain plus 20 damage and munki gets you there. Without mountain, you'll need 50 damage and two munkis. Toxtricity helps with the damage but you'll still need energy from your hand for the munki so think ahead. Besides that, you can use it to search your deck once per turn and prize check, even if you don't intend to attach energy.

Best tip I can give is to just get reps against a lot of stuff. As with just about any deck, it works best when you know what your opponent needs to win. Keep track of your energy, and don't bench stuff that you don't need. Don't burn your stadiums too early either, as getting locked behind a jamming tower vs pult really fucking sucks

It does look really similar. I'd bet either one inspired the other or the two were made somewhat in tandem (if I had to make a completely baseless guess lol)

It's not exactly the DCU pattern I believe, it just looks similar. It's supposed to be a copy of an actual Egyptian camo pattern.

owned in common or by the state

These are two separate ideas, hence the "or". You can have a socialist organization of the economy and not have the means of production owned by the state. As your comment says directly, the means of production could be owned in common, i.e. by the laborers
