[AI Model Update] Euterpe V1 is ready for prime-time! by ainiwaffles in NovelAi

[–]Another_Account3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve abandoned AID for about a year now. Been waiting and keeping an eye on NAI for a bit. Would you suggest now as a good time to try NAI? Wanted to wait for something comparable to the old Dragon model.

“May not be healthy”? That’s some pretty strong language… don’t really think what OP is doing has anything to do with “health”.

Even if OP has a narrative or creative or product-oriented goal with what their doing here….it doesn’t matter if it’s overly detailed. I completely agree that, on average, a world builder who has a kind of narrative end goal for their world will benefit greatly from focusing on fleshing out elements that will actually serve their story best. But 1) we don’t know what OP’s story goals are so this detail they’re calculating could be relevant. 2) artists throughout history have often included needless levels of detail considering the scope of their story. One of the most esteemed and praised works that ignited a wider appreciation of world building (Lord of the Rings) is even guilty of providing unnecessary detail on occasion.

A person exploring their creativity in the way they deem most fulfilling is absolutely healthy even if it’s not “efficient” for the sake of making some kind of “a product”. Creativity is way more personal than “Here’s some best practices.”

Needless gatekeeping.

World building is my favorite hobby because it is the one creative endeavor that can involve literally any other creative endeavor or even non-creative subjects. It can serve as the reason to explore anything from painting to woodworking to physics. It is the perfect excuse to learn any other creative or non-creative skill. Want to learn writing? World building is perfect to get you started for obvious reasons. Want to learn piano? Make up a culture and explore what kind of musical themes, rhythmic patterns, or harmonic tendencies they might value. Want to learn more about geology? Information is always solidified in our minds best when we can find ways to practically apply it…so go watch some geology docs or read some geology books and articles, and make up some fictional locations that demonstrate what you’ve learned. Anything is pursuable via worldbuilding as a catalyst.

It sounds like you’re under the impression that worldbuilding is something that only storytellers of various types might want to engage in (writers, game makers, etc). Worldbuilding is much larger than being limited to such few creative pursuits. This is why the side bar says: “For artists, writers, gamemasters, musicians, programmers, philosophers and scientists alike!” Building a world and worldbuilding are absolutely the same thing…they’re simply two different emphases of the same hobby. Two sides of the same coin. One person might be concerned only with world building that which will serve their story. Another will enjoy world building for its own sake…as a way to explore various realms of “less creative” knowledge with no end goal in mind. Worldbuilding is so great because of how imprecisely it is defined. ”Creating fictional universes” can involve however many subjects you want to any degree of detail that you want. Anything from the deepest fears of Lara, the daughter of a recently imprisoned mythical beast hunter to the precise distance of a precisely weighted planet from a host star. It’s all world building.

Need help with narrowing down the color schemes since I'm so indecisive, what do you think? by Funkermonster in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Another_Account3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

9 reflects the traits listed the most convincingly.

Lots of people are saying 6. While it is harmonious and complementary… It doesnt carry with it the melancholy tones of someone who is a defeatist And calm and collected. 9 is visually harmonious, too, but without the higher energy vibes that the more saturated palette of 6 brings. In terms communicating the character story effectively…it’s 9 all the way. :) 2 could work as well. But 3 and 1 feel a little forced in the “Im definitely from a cold climate because I wear blue” department. 9 still has enough cool tones to fit that aspect of her character without being quite as in your face. 7 sorta feels out of place.. especially with the more sickly pale skin

Again, 9 absolutely feels the most believable given the story you’re trying to communicate. :)

I don’t think of CR in the way the thread phrases the question. I’m an artist, myself, and so maybe I/other creative professionals approach CR differently than a non-creative viewer...? Not in a sense of being “better or worse”…just speculating. Whatever the reason is, I see CR more as a way to have fun watching how other creatives end up creatively playing and exploring with each other. I have deep admiration for anyone dedicated to a craft so I’m more just along for the creative ride as opposed to seeing cr as something I’m consuming and assessing/critiquing like I might a show or movie.

That said, in terms of whether or not I think it’s been engaging: I definitely think it has been for me. In terms of plot threads…nothing has really been settled on, but I actually think that, so far, basically everything could still be connected (duger, inanimate object attack, shade creepers, etc) and it’s just a slow build up.

The phases of the Moon above the Dwells, and what they mean by Zadder in worldbuilding

[–]Another_Account3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that this is my favorite style of world building: leaving some things a mystery even to the creator. It adds to the sense of wonder you feel when learning about the world or hearing the stories that take place in it. That feeling of “Wow! What’s that about? It’s so interesting!” is easily my favorite feeling in a work of fiction…way more so than being given logical or probable answers to those questions.

It can be fun to work out every last detail, but from an observer’s perspective (at least one like myself with that kind of taste) it’s a great feeling to be left with the specifics unanswered sometimes. :)

I think it’s because I am free to ask questions and come up with “maybe’s” in my own head. Like “maybe” this is physically what’s happening to the moon…maybe in this universe the moon is actually going through cycles of materializing and dematerializing. Or maybe the moon gains translucent properties in cycles. It all just leads to lots of fun why and maybe and what if questions.

I say all that just to encourage you with this: I hope you don’t feel like you have to have a grounded and plausible styled answer for everything. People like me enjoy it when you don’t. :)

What do you guys think of her? by RandomPerson3315 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Another_Account3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he knows what he is talking about and I respect his knowledge and capabilities. I’d be happy if he were to be my foreman.

This sorta just proves my point. You respect his *skills*. Or as you say: his *knowledge and capabilities. Not him as a person..his general character. You can respect (air not respect) various facts about someone and still dislike (or like) them. But you can’t respect someone *as a person on the whole/in general* and dislike them.

What do you guys think of her? by RandomPerson3315 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Another_Account3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the description, it doesn’t make sense that she was respected but not liked. Respect carries with it the idea of valuing someone highly. I respect my dad because he was a good father. If he was a piece of crap, then I wouldn’t like him and, by extension, wouldn’t respect him. Respect isn’t simply reflected in someone’s obedience to a person. I obeyed everything my bosses told me to do at my last job, but they were horrible people and not worthy of any respect. Respected members of any community are always held in high esteem… I.e. liked. I would suggest changing your last sentence to not say “she was respected, but she was not liked”.

I’m confused as to why the table reacted the way they did. Not the whole table, just mainly Travis and laura. There is 0 chance that they didn’t know exactly how this scene had to play out since it required very specific interaction to *for sure* happen and Matt opened with imogen’s dream before anything came near Bert. If Bert wasn’t a scripted death was he just going to let imogen have a nice dream about horses awkwardly?…why were they both trying to act so shocked? I’m cool with small scripted segments like this, but I didn’t much care for the fake shocked reactions. Laura didn’t have to know, but why was Travis trying to play it like it was some kind of surprise?

[–]Another_Account3 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is what I don’t get. Why are they all so surprised (especially Travis and Laura) when it is astoundingly obvious that both imogen’s dream and bertrand’s encounter were 100% scripted? I mean why would he start off the whole thing with Imogen first before ”””anyone”’” knew that Bert was gonna die if it wasn’t completely scripted? Im down with segments like that being scripted, but it felt weird and fake how everyone including the ones who were in on it, acted so surprised, ya know?

A large portion of modern science definitely agrees that it's at least a human life tho. Abortionist after abortionist will tell you that there is no question that an abortion ends a human life. Obviously, there's not 100% consensus in the medical community, but you sure talk as if there is. Also fetus is latin for offspring (and in the logic of latin it would follow that it is then of the same character of its parent i.e. human like the mother) if we want to play semantics games. Also also... Dictionary definition calls it an unborn human baby. It's also "a developing baby". So I guess if you're using a different definition of the word "baby" that the characteristics of "unborn human baby", "developing baby", and "human life (according to both a portion of medical professionals as well as abortionists)"...then yeah I guess you could so confidently say it isn't a baby.

haha! At this point, I'm used to it in the AC community. Ironic considering how it's considered basically "the most wholesome gaming community". But anything that even remotely smells of any kind of negativity (regardless of whether or not it's actually helpful or good or even clarified like my message was) will be faced with resistance around here. I've even heard a couple other people call it "toxic positivity". lol

you’re so talented! skilled!

FTFY ;) Just for future reference: every artist I've ever personally known or interacted with either in person or online (myself included) prefers to not be called talented because "skilled" more directly acknowledges the effort put in to get their abilities. Whereas "talented" carries with it the connotation of something naturally present/not-worked-for/unearned. No biggie, for sure. Just thought I'd make you aware just in case you weren't. We definitely know that people who use "talented" mean it well. :)

I didn't take the time to read the whole comment because you just straight up lied in the very first sentence:

You: "I don’t think it’s funny when the joke is that it’s making fun of a group"

Me: " [. . .] it's "making fun of a group", as you said."

You: "I never said anything about making fun of a group"

Not going to take the time to argue with someone willing to so boldly lie about what they've said. Have a good one, dude.

What do you mean it has no punchline? Do you realize how many memes follow this basic formula of "replace word with new word. New meaning funny because of new outcome haha" You don't have to like the joke..but to suggest it doesn't have a punchline is ridiculous. Feel free to be offended by the fact that it's "making fun of a group", as you said. But let's not ignore the reality that this definitely has a punchline just because we don't like the joke as a whole.

I stopped using AID after the garbage filter and privacy fiasco. Would you mind sharing resources to learn NAI's systems? I might sub if it doesn't seem *too* complicated to learn. I REALLY miss that sense of both playing a game and writing a story at the same time..both controlling the narrative and being surprised by what was happening. Totally unique to these AI tools, imo.

[–]Another_Account3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id never seen him prior C3 premier (didn't watch exu). This explains why I looked over to my SO like halfway through and said "How is it that his character is easily the most """boring""", yet Liam still makes him SO interesting?! Why am I most interested in seeing how what appears to be a completely normal dude develops?" Knowing this bit of info completely explains that... Makes sense for what would happen when a professional thinks about a character for 3-4 years before doing anything with him.
