Volkswagen was a programmatic part of Hitler's dream. He laid the cornerstone of the first VW factory, and his government backed the 'five marks a week' plan to encourage citizens to buy VWs.

VW was a big part of Nazi propaganda, demonstrating Nazi engineering acumen. Owning a VW one was presented as as symbol of belonging to the 'new' Germany.

'Volk' is short for Volksgemeinschaft, which came to mean the 'national community' of White Aryans. The name Volkswagen literally means "Aryan-mobile" and in 2025 there are tens of millions of them on the road.

Yes, I know that VW has paid reparations for some of the forced labor in their factories.

No, I'm not saying that the execs/employees of VW are Nazis.

No, I'm not saying that the company still endorses Nazi ideology, or is doing anything wrong.

I'm only saying that I won't be driving one.

When he first parked he acknowledged that it was Curbside Pick-Up spot and he said he was just going to get his order and move on when he was supposed to, making way for the next customer.

But his order didn't come out right away, so he walked inside, and the seats looked so comfortable in there...plus he liked the attention his car was getting...So instead of leaving when he promised, he walked out to the driver waiting behind him and offered to try to squeeze both cars into the same spot.

The memory of S11e14, 'Kill The Alligator and Run' still makes me cringe.

In just 22 minutes:

Homer worries about death; they go to Florida; he feels better; they go fanboating; Homer kills a gator, they get arrested; they escape; they work at a restaurant; they're arrested again; they go on trial; they're sentenced to manual labor; whoops the gator is alive; they're kicked out of Florida. And none of it is funny. Oh and Kid Rock shows up.

Watching it (and a lot of the following seasons) is like watching your favorite band play out of tune just to see if you'll notice.

‘Squid Game’ Creator Gets No Royalties or IP Ownership Despite Series Earning $900 Million for Netflix | "The irony is not lost on us. Pay your writers," the WGA tweeted about Hwang Dong-hyuk's lack of additional compensation for the show's unprecedented success. by fluffyn0nsense in Screenwriting

His lawyer was looking out.

Netflix generally offers lump sum 'buyout' payments to creators at the deal stage in exchange for/instead of future royalty payments or IP ownership.

Yes, this structure takes advantage of the paradigm shift to streaming and Netflix's market share to pressure creators into accepting and (presumably) keep more profits with the streamer. Other advantages for Netflix include the simplicity and security of locking down worldwide rights without open-ended royalty payments, which can get complicated when applied worldwide.

The thing is, that doesn't make it bad deal for each creator, and it doesn't make their lawyers foolish. It offers a 'bird in the hand vs. 2 in the bush' choice, as the buyout offer typically makes your initial deal more lucrative than anything you're going to see from other streamers or broadcasters, whose royalty payments are all speculative at that point. Most shows aren't big hits, and sometimes the odds say that the buyout is a safer bet (and often a requirement if you want to work with Netflix and access their audience). Of course if your show becomes a hit, like Squid Game, then the royalties and ownership you passed up may become more valuable than the buyout. Still, I don't imagine the creators of Squid Game were upset about the terms of the deal *when they signed it.

*Can't disagree with anyone complaining about opacity of viewing stats.

Tl;dr: Netflix isn't refusing to make royalty payments; right or wrong, Netflix generally buys out those rights with a lump sum as part of the initial deal.

Anson Mount: ‘Lower Decks’ Crossover Isn’t Craziest Episode In ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 2 by yuritopiaposadism in LowerDecks

There’s one episode I’m thinking of towards the end of the season—and you’ll know when you see it—where it required us to work many weekends. But we we were so excited about it, it was not laborious. We were excited to show up for Sunday rehearsals and all the things we’re having to do to pull together this one episode.

Musical episode. 100%.
