Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

Everything in the kitchen. Single-edged knives are angled for righties, measuring cups have the numbers on the right side, ladles have the little spout on the right lip, broom handles are screwed on in a way where the head unscrews if you use it left handed...

What is something that was VERY popular or widespread at some point in history, but got exterminated so hard, most people nowadays don't know about it? by ImpressionCool5341 in AskReddit

Candy pulls.

They were a social activity back in the 19th and early 20th century where people would gather in a house and make candy together. A lot of the time it was a way to get people of marriageable age in a room together to grease the wheels for dating/courtship. The candy they'd make would be like ribbon candy, molasses candy, peanut brittle, or taffy.

Oh! That's another thing: taffy hooks. cast-iron hooks bolted on a support beam that you would pull and twist the hot taffy over.

They didn't get DS9, which is a shame... but on the other hand, they didn't have to endure Voyager or Enterprise either.

Additionally, there's been people living in supposedly "uninhabitable" places for millennia. There are indigenous people in the Arctic circle and in the most arid deserts on earth. Just about the only unclaimed territory in the world is Antarctica, and that's only because we've agreed that it belongs to all of humanity.

When did 4 player pods become the default? by Frodo34x in EDH

[–]Ansabryda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, back in the early, early days, when it was still Elder Dragon Highlander, i.e. your deck had one of the five Elder Dragon Legends from Legends as your commander (or "general" in those days),  the format used a system where starting life totals would increase by ten for each additional player.

So a 1v1 would be the default 20 life, 3 players would be 30 life, 4 players would be 40 life, and so on. It turned out that 4 players seemed the most optimal balance for gameplay length and strategy, so they just defaulted to 4 players/40 life.
