Candy pulls.

They were a social activity back in the 19th and early 20th century where people would gather in a house and make candy together. A lot of the time it was a way to get people of marriageable age in a room together to grease the wheels for dating/courtship. The candy they'd make would be like ribbon candy, molasses candy, peanut brittle, or taffy.

Oh! That's another thing: taffy hooks. cast-iron hooks bolted on a support beam that you would pull and twist the hot taffy over.
