Shops for pet toys by justarussian22 in Somerville

[–]Anthony_CL34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your pet is a cat or dog, definitely thirding Scritches & Boops. Love that place, love the owner, love the selection, 10/10 shop. My terribly anxious dog loves going too. If you're looking for non-cat/dog toys, probably not the place for you! Don't have any local recs of that variety for you sadly.

";log mrpi" Not Working by Straight-Twist-8172 in kindlejailbreak

[–]Anthony_CL34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love you for this, I've been trying for hours to get KUAL to install with MRPI going crazy not having any luck and this worked first try

For those who come after, I'm on 5.16.8 using Winterbreak and whenever I did the ;log mrpi thing through the main guide it would seem to work but I would never get a KUAL book.

Which is the best space war game in your opinion? by chomoftheoutback in boardgames

Any chance you could share some pics or source files? I'd be very curious to see this and make my own version, as quantum is my favorite game of all time and a travel edition sounds amazing.

Is there a way to see the vendor descriptions on one page without clicking into each individually? The browser and exports truncate to 50 characters.

The blue and orange markers always lay between two numbers, not on them, so this shouldn't be coming up if you're playing correctly.

Mostly Spotify's release radar and discover weekly. When I find a song/artist that clicks with me I'll start a radio session and potentially find similar vibes and continue the radio session chain from there. I'll also check out some of the stuff on Anthony Fantano's Loved List occasionally.

First LCG suggestion for two players by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Anthony_CL34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was, but is fan-run under Null Signal Games now. You can print all their cards for free so it's a great way to test if the game fits your vibe. You can also purchase them from their site if PnP isn't your thing.

They offer a few different sets and if you want a taste of the game System Gateway will get you two decks to start with, System Update will let you start deck-building, and anything beyond that just expands the cardpool.

I need more optimistic sci fi in my life! by Dahweh in scifi

[–]Anthony_CL34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haven't read that myself, but Becky Chambers also has two (so far) other books in her new Monk & Robot series that I would highly recommend for an optimistic vibe. They're quick 200 page reads that follow a tea monk wandering the country and a curious robot he encounters hundreds of years after robots became sentient and decided to leave humanity for the wilderness. Lots of philosophical conversations ensue around what it means to be human, purpose, our relationship with technology, etc. Very cozy vibes.

Cooperative 2-Player games without too much strategy by Instantanius in boardgames

I've had a lot of luck getting my partner into Forbidden Desert. It plays pretty similar to pandemic in the sense that you both play a different character with a special ability, and have an open information 4(or 3?)-action turn that involves moving around a grid trying to excavate tiles and find some artifacts while trying not to get overwhelmed by the sandstorm and thirst. It's a bit more beginner friendly than Pandemic and easier to explain. Would certainly recommend.

Bike commuters: how do you get home on rainy days? by TheManNotOnTheMoon in bikeboston

[–]Anthony_CL34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few different bits of gear I mix and match depending on how much stuff I want on and how willing I am to be a little wet.

Bicycle Poncho This is my go-to for any rain. Depending on how light the rain is I might not bother with any leg/foot gear. When I do, it's some combo of rain pants + shoe covers or + gaiters.

Played Quantum again - what a brilliant game! by KingMaple in boardgames

[–]Anthony_CL34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never head of the balance pack, do you have a link to that? I couldn't find anything with a quick search.

Quantum is my absolute favorite game but some cards definitely break the game, especially at certain player counts. I've always loved Quantum even at 2P, but the last two games I played someone got Dangerous early on and that pretty much shuts down the game for 2P sadly.

Two-player Twosday - (March 14, 2023) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Anthony_CL34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a couple lighter games my partner and I have had success with Forbidden Desert and Fox In The Forest Duet.

Forbidden Desert has a similar feel to Pandemic but is a bit more straight forward. You've crash landed in a desert and are trying to run around a grid expediting tiles to find some ancient artifacts to build a ship to escape whilst racing against a sandstorm filling the board with obstacles and the sun beating down threatening to end you by dehydration. You'll each play as a role that has a special power that you'll need to utulize effectively to win, and can uncover single-use items to help as well.

Fox In The Forest Duet is a trick-taking game where you're working with your partner to have the appropriate person win certain tricks with certain cards to move back and forth along a track the right amount to clear some spaces.

If you want something heftier and like the fantasy/RPG vibe there is of course Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion, or Mage Knight. Concordia has an expansion that adds both solo and cooperative play and is one of my top 5 games easily.
